Unofficial Preview Changes vs GWS

I would like to see how Buller goes without McStay. For a player of his height and experience one goal a game (2025) is really not good enough. Maybe gamble with a Buller/West combo with Howe on the bench (surely he has to be part of our forward line this year? Unless Moore is injured or McInnes, when he is ready to play seniors, is sent to the forward line). Obviously, there is a danger in selecting two inexperienced players in one area of the ground, but how could it be worse than the last couple of weeks?

The Giants have a short-ish backline with Himmelberg and Buckley being the only talls at 195cm, so we will not be giving away a height advantage. Sam Taylor has been/is a huge loss

I feel bad for saying this, but McStay might be cooked. However, he will probably kick five goals now I have suggested he is gone. Whenever I write off a player, they run into match-winning form.

My team against GWS is:

FB Maynard Frampton Q
HB Houston Moore* Jaicos
C Crisp Naicos Lippa
HF McCreery West Shoota
FF Billy Buller Membrey
R. Cameron, DeGoey, Perryman

Int: Long, Steele, Sidey, Howe* Pendles (bit short but so are the Giants).

*if available. If not, Parker and McStay or Allan.

Howe to the forward line or swinging between both lines has merit if all our defenders are fit and available, but they're not yet.

Fully expect us to go in with the same forwards again…

But I just feel this is a perfect opportunity for West to come in against a backline that is decimated.

If none of these young guys can get early season opportunities then forget about it.
100% agree with this.

I’d be happy with a Buller, West and Membrey forward line for this one.

If not West, then I’d be tempted to bring in Steene to take advantage of Ricardi in the ruck and to sit him at FF to take advantage of their small backline.

I just don’t think we can go in with the same forward line again.

No excuses for our forward line this time.

That being said we've played the Giants a few times before when they've had key players out (2019 Prelim, Opening round 2025) and they've still managed to beat us, so expectations are still pretty middiling.
You can pencil in 4+ goals from Callum Brown. Always looks like an AA against us.

Yep, some teams really lift when they're missing some key players.
Especially when they're playing us. 😵‍💫

Their best two key defenders out is a completely different kettle of fish however.

Idun is a solid player and Himmelberg isn’t at the level he was 2/3 years ago

Still going to be a challenge however, we might be in front in that department if the skip and Howe return

Giants have a bye after our game. Can’t see them rushing anyone back that’s not quite right. It’s a long season
If their social media team have any say, they'll treat it like a grand final and deplete the nation's cortisone stockpile to get everyone up for this game.

I’m not holding my breath that Fly will pick West and Steene

He will go with the tried and tested.

Moore and Howe the only two ins really if both pass fitness test
Haven’t seen anything from Steene in pre season games to suggest he deserves a call up.

We’ve played two games. Are 1-1 and lost by 2 goals to a good team. It’s not panic stations just yet

In: Moore, Howe, swadling, Steene
Out: mcstay, Allen, parker, membrey

Play JDG forward.
IDK, someone else have a go ya campaigners
Won’t surprise me if only one of Howe/Moore come in, Allan is dropped (or someone else isn’t quite right and gets a week off).

Pez, Crisp, Sidey, Pendles, etc can cover some of the time that Allan was playing in mid/wing.

Would personally like to see Allan and Parker both retained.

Won’t be sad if West/Steene come in, but don’t think it’s necessary.

His centre throw up leap could be very handy. We are definitely struggling with Cameron getting jumped all over.

I don't think Parker deserves to be dropped but I do think Joel Cochran deserves a chance, especially after that fantastic goal he kicked in the practice game.
Who knew he could do that!

That was a nice moment. Can’t see how he gets a game when his competition are all about to return (Moore, Howe, Reef).

I’m sure we will see some development from Joel in the VFL this year. Really looking forward to watching our young guys this year!

I do wonder if he could take Allan's position. He''s speedy, can run all day and even has a good leap. Plus he has bulked up quite a bit.
