Unofficial Preview Changes vs GWS

If we wait for exposed form and to justify selection then our season might be over by then.

In the case of West he surely cannot be that far behind Buller? Buller had the spot but has not shown much - toss of the coin going forward.

Saxena is a player we don't have a lot of. Would be more than happy for him to get an opportunity sooner rather than later.

Steene makes sense. We need a second ruckman and he is next inline.

What does Latrelle Pickett have that Saxena doesn’t?

Doesn’t exposed form allow a player to come into the seniors with more confidence about their abilities - and therefore maximize their chance of success.
Confidence is a fragile commodity in young players that we should patiently develop.
Play them to early and the set backs may take a great deal of time to overcome.

West in I reckon. He was good enough to be selected last year — can’t imagine he’s got worse in the meantime.

I reckon we're a day or two away from suggesting Moore should play forward...

The only reason I would be open to playing Howe forward is if it meant Parker stays in the team because we need to develop him.

Still, I'd rather trial Buller, West and Membrey over moving Howe forward.

The doomsayers are already suggesting we play saxena as seasons well and truly over after that 10 goal smashing by last years wooden spoon team

I think there’s a good chance one more MOTY for Howe, he’s been robbed and I think it’s his best chance using McStay as the platform, Moore could go down there too, slightly higher platform.

Agree - we need to stay the course with Buller and Mcstay with West eventually substituted for Membrey ( given his age).
BMW is the future no need for Howe to pinch hit and stall the cohesion between them. We need to stay the course with BMW, knee jerk changes offered here by many are counter productive.

That's not what he said.

Didn't mention McStay.

I would have expected more in the GWS practice games hence my keenness to hold him over until he’s shown form in the VFL. There is no rush in my opinion.
I agree there's no rush though McStay has shown nothing and his turnovers have been costly.

At 30, it's hard to see where the improvement comes from aside from between the ears. He needs confidence from the VFL

Membrey and Buller need to be doing more too, though at least they're competing.

I'd like to see more speed. Maybe Hayes or Harrison.
Wouldn't mind seeing Steene come in as the 2nd ruckman playing forward. He can jump and take a grab. McStay and Membrey can't get off the ground these days.

Okay - so this is my preferred option for the forward line.

I have said previously i don't believe Cameron is an amazing tap ruckman from the middle. His strengths are his contested marking and around the ground ruck-work.

When it mattered last season, Cox was brought into the team to provide a focal point and provide a consistent ball drop for our smalls. It also helped out Checkers and McStay.

I would move Cameron to play significantly more up forward. Cameron has the height, is good at holding front position and is a great mark and has some forward craft from when he first started. Cameron does not get out marked that often so would bring the ball to ground as a worst case scenario.

McStay then becomes the second banana which suits him more. The third spot is then Buller/West (That should allow both a proper chance to succeed). That means dropping Membrey and bringing in Steene to ruck.

I would then have the remaining forwards as Schultz/Beau, Harrison/Sullivan, and Elliott/De Goey.

That way Moore and Howe can sure up the defence and get our intercept game going. I would only bring one of Moore and Howe for GWS. Too risky to play both imo from an injury perspective.
I don't think this is the worst option we have.

The two main issues are that:
a) we lose his most valuable contributing weapon, which is contested intercept marking - he gets 4-5 per game, and other contests he impacts and brings the ball to ground. He's the best in the business, and our backline needs his support here. Steene wouldn't be able to provide anywhere near the amount of contribution here as Cameron does.
b) he isn't as good as marking when it isn't an intercept situation (for some reason). When he has an opposition looking to spoil, he isn't quite as effective

I definitely think we need to bring in either Steene or West because our forwardline needs a reshuffle either way, and maybe it is with your solution.
