channel 7 coverage

i have watched every game this year on TV and that broadcast today was appalling. Not a full game , delayed start due to the supercars? Worst production , highlights package, presenter i have ever seen.
I was fuming that after finding out i am only getting highlights of 1 & 2 qtrs the first 10 min of coverage included 5 mins of ad breaks and several "recaps" of the score that they shopwed before the ad breaks.
Just to top it off we have to listen to the Ox this guy can't be for real no where near broadcast quality commentator, he adds nothing.
WTF AFL this is a compromise to the rights deal and not good enough!

I totally agree. In Qld we have usually had the game broadcast live but as car race was at the Gold Coast they decided to give us a taste of the delayed telecast. Now I thought they were playing it in full to finish at 6pm to get viewers to their news service. But as you said played only highlight in the first half.

The time evened up at half time and I was thinking they'd go live from half time. But no! As the third quarter started 7 opted to show 10 minutes of commercials. The whole thing was a total disgrace.

Agree, Channel 7 is ****ing hopeless. WOrst coverage by far. The amount of ads on is ridiculous. Lets hope they get sued so much (altho obviously it wont happen) by Michael Braun that ch 9 offer to buy the contract off them and they accept!

Why do they need to have all that crap at 1/2 time of a delayed telecast? Surely viewers would be more interested in post match interviews and coach's press conferences at the end of the game, rather than Bruce and Tim Watson crapping on about what else has happened over the weekend during half time. If they want to do that, bring back Talking Football on a Monday or Tuesday night.

Not uncommon to come back from their excessive ad breaks and see another goal scored and make NO F*&^%ING comment about it either.

Bruce is the biggest queer in Australia. The amount of time he spends talking about how players look and what hairstyle they have is plain wrong.

For many years my family has had a ritual for watching all games that are on delayed telecast.
Any invitations to weddings, baptisms, parties etc on that day don't even get a look in.
At the actual gametime, all doors at home are locked and remain unanswered until the final siren on the telecast. The house phone and all mobiles are placed under a pillow in the bedroom for the same duration.
Visitors arriving before gametime are not particularly encouraged to stick around, but if they stay they are forewarned that we appreciate silence during the game.(Of course we then proceed to scream our heads off throughout the match).
We then find that to all intents and purposes we can watch the game "live".
This system has worked like a charm up until this year.
The incompetence of the Channel Seven coverage and the deluge of advertisements have driven us back to listening to the radio for real live action and I catch the replay later on FOX.
Unfortunately, Seven has the contract for five years so the only way we can strike back is to boycott that station 24 / 7 in our household.
That probably doesn't hurt them much but I have a lot of faith that if they continue with their present format we might have plenty of others to keep us company.

The sooner they drop the anti syphoning laws the better. If 7 can't show the game live then fox should have the option. They could have easliy broadcast yesterdays game live on the main event channel like the do on Friday nights. I get the sydney feed where I am and the only Cats game not on live this year were Melbourne and yesterday, both Channel 7 cork ups. Bruce is a goose and the OX just needs a "C" .

I wouldn't have minded the delayed telecast if they had played the game from start to finish without all the other crap. But when they just play highlights of the first half and the second half in full that seems like a total waste of money for me. When I say waste of money I mean the money they paid for the rights.

Trust me, they are bad. I was watching Channel 10's delayed Sat arvo telecast on Saturday, and at least they make an effort to make it feel like its live, by only showing the one ad after goals. Channel 7 throw in your normal 5-6 ad break after every couple of goals.

What also annoys me is at the end of the SUnday game, they time it so basically as soon as the siren goes they throw to the news, so u dont get to see any of the after game stuff, like handshaking, congratulating, acknowledging fans, singing song, etc.

I wasnt saying the 6-ad break was a good thing, it sux, much prefer the one ad after a goal that 10 does.

Another thing woth 7, what is it with the replays of goals?? SOmetimes they go straight to an ad after showing a goal, sometimes they show the replay and dont have a n ad, then the next time they will show the replay, and then just before the ball is bounced again they will go to an ad!

the camera work is the only difference...the commentary on nine was shizen, especially when eddie impartial was commentating. lyon and brereton were major knobs as well.

Yes i agree with most posters get rid of channel 7 coverage it is appalling, you just get into the game then they have 6 adds you loose the momentum of the game. Why don't they just stick to 1 ad like all the other channels have done. Then the half time b/s what a waste of time would much rather hear the song or interviews of players than half time crap. Also they need to get the coverage in HD not SD why don't they lash out on some HD cameras.

Up until this year there were 3 types of coverage. Live, Delayed and Reply.

Obvioulsy 'Live' speaks for itself.

'Delayed' was usually an hour sometimes half an hour after the bounce but it was shown as if it were live. 1 ad between goals, half time/quarter time were in real time etc.

A 'Reply' could be anything from highlights to a full game. There could be many ads between goals. The advantage of the 'reply' would be that they wouldn't show the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 breaks in real time. Meaning after one lot of ads it was straight into the next quarter. Sometimes even no ads but just a mention by the host that they were now going to the next quarter.

This year Ch7 have come up with a new one. It's a delayed telecast but shown like a replay. So as well as a heap of ads between quarters(because they are pretending to show it in real time), they also have many ads between goals(conveniently forgetting real time).

So well done to Ch7 for maximizing ads as well as viewer frustration. And the fact you go straight to the news, with no after game productions, smacks of arrogance.
