Well there is one way to not get called for 'Hands In The Back'... Just bypass the back and sit on someone shoulders

They also have their forearms. You can hold your ground with your forearm....but not your hands. Why? The effect is exactly the same. The reality is it's a daft interpretation that is totally unnecessary and should be done away with.Personally, I don't know what all this whinging about "hands in the back" is about. The rule is clear. What is wrong with using the body? All the players out there have hips and shoulders. Steve Johnson took a mark earlier in the year where he used his elbow to keep distance but his hands were in the air for the umpires to clearly see. He took the mark and the umpire had no problems with it. You can push in the side if both player are side by side. I think that the rule rewards the player who gets front position. Just don't put your hands in their back.
hey guys, could someone please post that mark on youtube because i missed it at the game and the replay wasnt clear enough.
By the way god bless you for beating the scum today!
Yes, the rule is clear but the rule sucks...Personally, I don't know what all this whinging about "hands in the back" is about. The rule is clear. What is wrong with using the body? Why? Because it is SOFT.
It's a contact sport for cryin' out loud. If the player is pushed out of the contest pay a free kick. If a player rests his hands on the player in front then play on. Why the big deal about hands?

Think I'll go lie down now...

And yet players are allowd to do exactly the same thing with their forearm. Wouldn't you be confused? The result on the contest is exactly the same, and you'll see plenty of players appealing in bemusement at the umpire as to why it wasn't their free. It happened on the weekend, but the blinding example was in the game against St Kilda. Corey was in front, Blake behind. Blake put down his forearm, held his ground against Corey, took the mark. Corey appealed to the umpire - why wasn't it a free? A gleeful Clinton Grybas provided the answer: because Blake had used his forearm and not his hands, it was perfectly legal, even though the effect on the contest was exactly the same. Grybas and Healey even went as far to say as it'd be on the DVD next year. The rule is clear. No hands in the back. How much clearer does it have to be. As to the problem of interpretaion. That is a problem for the whole game. All tackles, body contest are open to the interpretation of the umpire.
Gazing at Steve Johnson again wondering if he is in the top 10 yet?

If you think I was being serious that is rather sad...
I have a sense of humour, you are just a very unfunny, bland person![]()
