Chase SYLVIA

Strikes me as all flash, little substance. Talented but goes missing. We want consistency in our group.

Don't have the stats on hand, but he was first or thereabouts last year for tackles inside 50 - his defensive pressure is excellent. Would like him, though not sure if we'd want to carry to crumbing forward pockets in Eddie and Varcoe (although if one could spend time in the middle, would be very hand - ala Thomas and Campbell at the Roos).

As for Slyvia, not a fan. Injury prone and I question his application. Got talent no doubt, but I'm not sure if he's worth the risk/ extra baggage.

I think that is possibly a little harsh - he is probably 19 or 20 yo and due to the strong competitoin for places he would have only played 25 games. Of course chasing Varcoe is still pretty speculative but not as speculative as Sylvia.

heard, were lookin at recruiting that guy that kicks back in front of maccas on on the top of swanston st, buskin for his next hit

Harsh. What's he methadone to you?

Has been done to death this trade.
Would prefer Gamble or Sylvia over McKinley. Hasn't shown much at all this year.

Although I'd prefer McKinley over Sylvia, I agree with the rest of your post. Have no idea why some are so adamantly keen on McKinley - has potential, but he's not the answer to our forward line issues.

Yeah we don't want this sort of person at Carlton, the guy is a woman-basher.
He is an idiot off the ground, and even as a footballer hasn't lived up to expectations.
No respect for this guy whatsoever.

So you'd like to get rid of Heath Scotland as well then?

Sylvia NO WAY!!!

His off the ball work is zero, far to lazy . Not a team player
Struggling in a bottom side says it all

Stood out in juniors because of his natural talent and skill but that not enough in the AFL ..

I hadn't even considered Gamble from Geelong, but I do like the idea of enquiring about him. Given they still have the Tomahawk to come back into the team, they may not be too discouraged to trade him, given that they already have Mooney, Ottens and Lonergan in the team as well.

Gamble (184cm), like McKinley (184cm) and Sylvia (186cm) are small/medium forwards who can play tall and generally become the third forward target. We already have Fisher as our third forward although he has been terribly out of form this season. We also still have Edwards developing in the Ants for this role and after Saturday's game I've actually got more confidence in Tex becoming our third tall moving forward as he can play tall, small and just plain freak ;)

Our glaring deficiency in attack is the second tall option, not the third.

IMO the holes in our structure that need be addressed as a matter of priority in the upcoming off-season:

1. Ruck that can win hitouts at AFL level NOW.
2. Genuine KP marking forward as a secondary option to Fev going forward.
3. Small crumbing forward.

Medium sized third forwards don't really make the list, so why would we go looking to trade for any of these players?

The only reason I can think of is if we have abandoned the traditional 192-6cm CHF structure and are going to be playing a game plan similar to the Doggies, but without any evidence to suggest this change in game plan, I can't see how we will be targetting players that don't address our needs.

Another player from Geelong that is on the fringe is Varcoe. Doesn't get alot of game time due to the talent down there, and may move for more opportunities.

Varcoe is at least getting games and must be highly rated to have been given the #5 down at the Cattery.

Nathan Djerrkura is a very siimlar player, a year younger and hasn't managed to crack a senior home and away game yet, we're probably a better chance of getting him.
