Do cheaters realise they are thought of as unskilled fools?

I'm sure Essendon Footy club didn't think of that when they cheated back in 1993.

Seriously though, I do not cheat in games, rather if i'm stuck, I usually go on the net and look for a walk through guide, for games like Crash Bandicoot etc.
I don't think that can seriously be regarded as cheating, rather as assistance.

I think Bluey's refering to online gaming and the use of cheats to unfairly beat others. (am i right?)

I agree it's shhit. There's too many stories of people playing Phantasy Star Online (online RPG in which you actually played *with* other people, not against) on Dreamcast in the US and putting anywhere from 100+ hours playing it and collecting *RARE* weapons, and then having some prick join your game and then kill your character and steal all your weapons, leaving you back at square one. Sega tried to stop it but couldn't, and then ended up releasing Phantasy Star Online Version 2. (i'm not sure if cheating and player killing is still a problem. I'm guessing it's not as i haven't heard anything about it lately)

It's shhit because whenever you play anything online these days (on a PC anyway) and lose in spectacular fashion, you always wonder if the other payer isn't cheating. (i mean, how did that guy get all those tanks so quickly.....??)

As for secret codes/cheats/passwords etc (single player games like GTA3 etc), i think they're a necessity. Not every game player is good enough to finish every game they buy. Sometimes, cheats are the only way they ever get to see all of the game that they spent $100 on. I only use these cheats when i have to. I'll try and complete the game normally, and if i get to a point that i just cannot even get CLOSE to completing, then i'll use a cheat. (and feel guilty immediately!)

You guys have no idea how bad cheating was in Counter Strike about 6 months ago. There was no protection servers could take as most OGC's were run outside the game files, meaning it was nearly impossible to detect them with filters.

I actually gave up playing CS as i couldn't get frags, yet at LAN centers I usually topped the charts. A lot of server providers even created servers specifically for people wanting to use hacks, it didn't really help though.

Recently Sierra released a new version of CS (v1.5 i think) that has some features which have significantly decreased cheating.

Cheating really sucks. Every online game I have ever played has been flooded with cheaters so for alot of the time I make private servers and just play against friends. Even that doesn't help much since a monkey on prozac would figure out a server password. CS 1.5 now has anti-cheat code which works well and the IInet servers scan your hdd for cheat files so it's getting better.

Long live the old quake days, no cheaters!!

Perhaps thats because not many people had PCs that would actually run quake... but even so, greatest game ever ;)

There is still some cheating in PSO2, but nothing like PSO1.

Mainly now weapons can be duped, and your stats boosted.

Its mainly there v1 people that can reset rooms etc.

Single player games - the only person you are cheating is yourself. Cheat away.

Online games - It is just unacceptable. It degrades the game for everyone. If you cheat you are showing you don't care about the game or anyone who plays it. You are a selfish tool and should be taken out and slapped around a bit.

In version 1.0 of Medal of Honor, all you had to do was type in 'dog' and you had friggin GOD MODE!

I remember this bloke had about 50 kills and no deaths people kept telling him to p iss off but he never said a word, he just kept going! I eventually cornered him and he couldn't move so I just pumped him with around 300 rounds of Tommy gun fire! He never budged, all he did was drop a grenade, waste me and be on his merry way.

Luckily, EA fixed this fatal blunder in version 1.1!

I get the feeling you've been recently p*ssed off by online cheaters. Calm down before you pop a vein bluey ;)

Those idiots in Sydney, bunch of Asian guys in a net cafe - what was their clan?

Constant cheating and they were proud of it. Liked to descend on a server and ruin the game for everyone because they were too childish to play by the rules.

Scared little children in an adult world.

I used to cheat whenever i could, then i purchased Porsche Unleashed (or 2000), and realised that, a) for someone who has never driven a car in their life, this game is fantastic and difficult, and b) there are no cheats which help you (in hindsight, i have no idea what cheats would help).

Through online message boards, i found people who were willing to give excellent info on how to configure the car for premium racing and i was ready to win!

Now i realise that cheats are not necessary and i think they are only there so programmers, testers and reviewers can see what's ahead in the game.

I didn't think you could use cheats in an online game? (although my experience of an online game is 4 years ago playing Blood)

Been playing CS even more, and the cheating going on is mind-boggling. I just played on a primus server, and there was this guy with a 39-6 scoreline. Next best was 15-10. He always knew where to look for people. And when I accused him of cheating, he came out with the popular "haha, what a n00b. He thinks I'm cheating. Hahaha". Of course he's so l33t everyone believed him.

I hate ******s like him

You have to consider sometimes that the guy might be good.

I sat and watched a mate play. He was on dial up but was wasting high school kids with his pistol.

I don't believe anyone could be that much better than everyone else because I've never seen a scoreline like that at a LAN center.I've only ever seen it on internet servers.

Also, when you watch him, he always knew where the other team was going. I'm not saying he looked in all the common places, i mean he literally ran STRAIGHT to where the others were, and if they moved from one spot to another he always knew it. With the 1st person view now available in CS, i can see what he can see. And sometimes the way he found people defied all non-cheating logic.

Either he was sitting next to someone playing for the opposition and looking at their screen, or he was wallhacking.

I remmeber the old days of playing Diablo on B.net... most people were cheaters, who used God-Mode, autokill and had hacked items that made the super powerful. When you kill players in Diablo I or II, you collect their ears (which have their character names and level) but people went as far to create ears so to try and prove their Player Killer (PK) ways. Cheaters just ruin the game for reasonable players!

Of course, I had my LEGIT level 50 mage to deal with them. Well, maybe you wouldn't call him legit anymore since I have programs that enable Anti-Autokill, a scanner to detect hacks and a gem which deactivates their god mode! My mage used to be one of the most powerful characters back then, I won almost all my duels, and better still, he is still on my hard drive! Ah the memories...

they are still trying to get rid of the cheats, but i have to admit i use them sometimes on games where it makes u stronger or something not a cheat to pass the whole game in a second!
