Andrew Hilditch talking about Ricky Ponting's wishlist, I mean, discussing the current state of the Aus team on the road to India and the Ashes.

Please note the reference to the long term future of the team... and Marcus North's perceived role in it.

Let's hope that Marcus North hits some real form and keeps it for a while as we appear to be stuck with him for some time to come.

Weak as piss. North would want to make some big runs in the next six months, otherwise we have missed a golden opportunity to blood a good young player.

I liked it when we dropped the guy who was 20 and averaging 50 after two bad tests to accomodate a very wayward fast bowler, yet North who has been awful bar a test or two vs NZ has a golden ticket till the ashes.

We are being royally ****ed by these selectors

The poms are still 3.25 to win the ashes, empty out the savings account fellas :(

We'll be playing on roads, where you would expect both teams to have trouble taking wickets, but with North in the side there will be one or two collapses from Australia that will lose us the ashes on home soil.

disgusting. Current bunch of selectors will never admit they get anything wrong. Watching the poms flog the paki(stani)s too.

Ponting given a further 2 year contract.

Punter has a lot to do with North being retained. He really likes having him in the team. There is a lot of conservatism around the Aussie set-up at the moment.

The quote "his consistency is something that we'd be looking for him to improve." is blatantly wrong.

He's very consistent. Almost consistently rubbish.

I don't think this is true - ANYMORE.

I've heard from a number of people in two different States that Nielsen and Hilditch have seriously reduced Ponting's power/influence since they took over, and that they call a lot more of the shots than Punter.

It wouldn't surprise me at all, some of the decisions they've made were ****ing atrocious; thing back to the Ashes, Ponting came as close to flat our criticising the Selectors as I can remember in a long time, and there have been a number of times when he's been clearly pissed off about tactics and selection.

It's always been the Captain who has the main say in the team and direction, but I believe since Nielsen took over, the Coach has become the 'Boss.'

Warney is right - we don't need a head Coach, we need a Team Manager.

"All players in international cricket are under pressure to perform at all times,'' Hilditch said today.

Except for North.

"He's a very experienced cricketer and we're going to lose some experience in the next six months to two years, so if he was playing really well and gave us some experience, that would be our ideal outcome.

And that's exactly why we need to drop North right now!!

****!!

Use the next year or two to get Hughes, Khawaja, Clinger (whoever) into the side, while Ponting, Katich and Hussey are still there, so when they do go, these lads have got a solid year of two of experience under their belts.

**** THESE CLOWNS!!

I agree about getting younger players in while the experienced ones are still there. North's surety in the team should be dependent on his performances only. I can't see how he's been around for long enough to have gained this sort of hold over the management. The kind of crap in that article you would expect to hear about someone with Huss's pedigree in all formats, not someone who only plays test cricket, is relatively new to that (one of my big beefs with him - is a bloody unreliable pair of hands) and hasn't had an outstanding first class career. It's all quite bizarre.

Why on earth would Nielsen have the sort of power you suggest to direct the future of Aus cricket? What is his record? At anything?

I've given up on Hilditch.

But as I said, I will just hope he performs well during India and the Ashes as he has to or the collapses won't be pretty and someone needs to stand up during them.

Australian Chairman of Selectors - Andrew Hilditch

Nielsen and the Selectors should have been sacked after we lost the home Saffer Series; the prime reason for that loss was their shithouse decisions.

They weren't.

They then should've been sacked after we lost the Ashes, again.

But they weren't.

They're failures, yet there doesn't seem to be any evaluation of their performance.

Yes, there appears to be a 'freedom from consequences' environment. Look at Clarke being charge of the t20 team. It doesn't matter how he performs as a batsman, that's irrelevant. And now that is what they appear to be saying about North. WTF is going on?

To be honest I only give a shit about the future of our test side and the ODI world cup. So from that point of view I dont mind Clarke being there because I think it's good experience captaining the national side, and I think his captaincy has been good. Would have no qualms if they turned around and said ok had some experience step back, however, because as a batsmen in that form he doesnt cut it. Im guessing he'll be One Day skipper post world cup anyway, and that'd be plenty of captaincy work.

That was when they rushed an unfit, disinterested and totally out of form Andrew Symonds back into the side??? That was the worst selection decision ever.

I also agree with the comments about North.

I do mind about it as it appears to be representative of a certain mind-set as I went on to explain. Though at least with Clarke, I can understand why they want to give him experience. Watching him panic in t20 World final made it obvious that he needs big game experience as a captain.

But their reasoning with North is silly.

FFS we have gone from dominating World cricket to a borderline joke of a side.
These clowns need to go, the best thing is that Hilditch and Nielson are crossing the road together in front of my car.
You don't perform you get dropped, we are not miles in front of the rest anymore, we simply can not afford to carry blokes like North and Hussey anymore, give more power back to Ponting, he has more clue then all of our selectors and ****wit coach combined and he is the one out on the field, not kicking back on the beach with his dog like our chairman of selectors.
We will get destroyed in India, lost a lot of confidence for the ashes as well.
