per today's MX:

Former Collingwood assistant coach Guy McKenna says the Pies could choose a roughie to lead the team next season.
Scott Burns has retired after one year as captain, leaving Collingwood short a leader.
McKenna - in charge of the new Gold Coast franchise - named tough midfielder Shane O'Bree as the man to steal the role from favourite Josh Fraser.
He said "I think Josh Fraser (could get the job)."
But O'Bree was also a chance because he was seen as a "spiritual leader".

And I wait with baited breath for the tirade of vitriol and dissent to cascade from the keyboards of some posters.......

Great Bloke, good player. But I dont think so. Fraser as captain is questionable, there must be someone?? Swanny!!

id be 100% behind it

but jeez imagine the ammo this will give oppo supporters
Id back it too, but it wont just be the oppo supprters either that have a go

Yeah I'm not so sure

Stinks of Richie Vandenburg.

We need a player that is amongst the first 5 -10 selected on a Thursday evening. Me thinks Obie is about the 15th player picked each week.

I'm against it. I just don't see him as a captain he doesn't do the captain things when we need it. As for co captains I'm dead against that idea we should pick one and thats it.

We need to pick a player who stands up when things are going bad and Obree doesn't strike me as a guy who will be able to do it.

Love him or hate him, he lead our centre clearances last year with 101 ahead of Swan 83 and Pendles 71 and he came second in contested possessions with 183 behind Swan with 193 and ahead of Pendles with 163. I know he has his shortcomings but can we really afford to be rid of a player who would have been second in Hawthorns centre clearances behind Mitchell? He also lead our tackle count by a mile with 106 ahead of Pendles on 77 and Swan on 75.

I'm not suggesting make him captain, but he deserves some respect.

If O'Bree is made captain - I imagine that many maggies fans will tear up their memberships in disgust - me being one of them.

Might as well make Brad D*ck skipper.

great if true another vandenberg/Kane Johnson situation where your captain is barely in your run on 18......

ive just finished watching "your beautiful" then come in and read this

Collingwood is fast becoming the laughing stock of the AFL.Pains me to say it but we are a deadset rabble at the moment. We have lost all idea on what we are here for and have turned into a franchise:thumbsdown:

I'd be nervous that Rocca could be on the park less then Burns was.

At least then a vice captain - like Pendles can step into the breach and learn how to be captain before he has the full weight of the captaincy thrust upon him.

I think we all agree that Pendles needs at least another year before we could give him the job full time. This could be the best way to fast track it.
