Yeah i really think he will be delisted next year if he fails to break back into the senior side this year. He is obviously trying to be re-invented as a forward but our forward line looks weak with him it. It is what happens when players don't put in a 100%. Goes from a promising prospect to a least favourable and forgotten about figure at colingwood. Always thought the bear had the grunt you need at AFL level just never always gave it 100%. Gave away too many silly frees and waddled around the ground trying to keep up with the ruck contests..

Thoughts?

No one doesn't give 100%.
He is a massive unit and it doesn't take much for a body that size to be spent.

Unfortunately for him he just doesn't have the legspeed or fitness.
I was surprised he wasn't delisted last year.

My thoughts are that you're an idiot!

If anyone in the club can stand tall and say they have extracted every bit of talent from themselves, it's Bear.

Wood has definitely jumped way ahead of him the last few weeks. I still think we should keep him for next year atleast, just to avoid the (low) possibilty of having no ready ruckman on our list (eg. Essendon ATM).

yeah thats why he played seniors last year and now floats around in the twos in 09'... Maybe extracted that talent way too soon because it wouldn't be hard to break into a side with slim pickings for talls because of injury and leigh brown

Where did I ever say that he had the required talent to make it at a senior level?

You are banging on about how he hasn't put in 100% but what the hell do u know about his work ethic. Not knocking him but I am yet to see a glimpse of some underlying major talent that may suggest he is not getting the most out of himself.

Good, honest, hard-working forward who unfortunately is challenging for a spot against Dawes, Cloke, reid, Fraser and Rocca.

if he was 2 inches taller he would be a very good ruckman

Physical, good kick, loves the hard stuff, decent mark

but he isnt and he is a player i like but he is really too short for ruck with his leap note being amazing it doesnt help, and he is two slow for KP either end although he isnt a terrible play reader.

This is also the first year he has looked very aerobically fit, unlucky for him so do fraser and wood

i hope he gets an extra year on the list, forward and ruck cover he is handy but im not certain whether it will happen

I agree with Optimax 100%.

With the obvious development of Wood i just can't see how Bryan will break back into the side.

Having said that, do we have another ruckmen on the list? The current situations at Essendon & Brisbane this season have proved that cover in the ruck is a necessity.

Strange that someone has bought Chris Bryan up now.

I was thinking the other day who would be the 4-6 players who will be delisted at the end of this year, and I kept coming back to Chris Bryan as a certainty to go.

We have 2 ruckman who are clearly more suited to the modern game, and 1 more rookie ruck who already has been given more responsibility at VFL level then Bryan.

When thinking about delistings, I came up with the following;

Delisted;

Bryan
Stanley
Rocca (Retired)

Promoted;

Keefe
Blair

That would leave us with still having to delist 3 other players just to have 4 draft picks, which is seen as the minimum.

So basically, I just cant see how Chris Bryan will be at Collingwood next year, in fact I would go as far as saying he is the most certain player not to be on our list next year.

and Cook and I wouldnt mind betting B Johnson gets traded

Benny is our no. 1 tagger, if he gets traded that makes Toovey our no. 1 tagger, do we want this happening??? "Don't think so Tim"

If anyone it'll be O'Bree. He has underperformed this season, and with the kids coming up and knocking at the door we can safely but unfortunately let Shane go.

Nathe's Tips for Delisting:

Bryan
Cook
Stanley
O'Bree
Rocca

Possibly Cox to be traded. Goldie and he are fighting for the one place, and with an extra pre-season under Goldballs, I only see him surpassing Cox next year.
Goldballs oozes talent, just needs a few more kgs.

EDIT: Obviously O'Bree would be traded, if he chooses to continue.

obree wont be traded

how is 22dpg under acieveing

do you even watch the side?

That would cover it i suggest

I watch our matches multiple times.
He is our 3rd or 4th oldest player.
He is an onballer who is known for extracting from stoppages and his tackles.
22dpg is very borderline for his position.
He does have skills on both sides, but lacks penetration. Even Steele has more penetration, and better skills.
Fact is he will be going into 2010 as a 31yo midfielder......

Get where im coming from?

correct he will be going into 2010 as a 31yo midfielder coming off a year averaging 22 disposals as our 4th or 5th midfielder

No issue, in any case none of sidebottom, beams or mccarthy are ready to replace him yet. Until they match his output CONSISTENTLY obree will be best 22

Yeah, we have to have 3 spots for National Draftees, and the likelihood is that we'll promote at least Keeffe and Reed. On that basis, a minimum of 5 must make way.

Rocca should retire. I look forward to his NFL career (seriously).
Chris Bryan, thanks for your efforts.

Ben Johnson is under some pressure given his advancing age, his known limitations, his off-field indiscretions and his unlucky interruption to what looked a good season.
Danny Stanley is in strife if MM stays on, surely he would be picked up by another club.

Shannon Cox has a lingering doubt over his status, but his performances have been decent, I dare say he'd be picked up by another club too.
Sean Rusling will be expected to put a few decent games together to retain his position on the list. He has the talent...
O'Bree, I would imagine, will be encouraged to play on if current form continues. Mind you, I was wrong about Wakelin.
Leigh Brown wouldn't be on any other club list, but it's the reverse of the Stanley situation with MM.
Cook is probably considered by the coaching staff to be depth at worst, I doubt he'd go.
Toovey has improved considerably this year, and is likely in a similar situation to Cook, plus some MM love.

I thought Bryan was fairly average last year. He seemed to get himself fitter, and more focussed. Round One he played against Adelaide, and coughed up a few and was sat on the bench a fair portion of the game. Given his time on the ground, he still managed 16 taps. So if he played half the game, which I believe to be generous, then fo the full game, his tap count could of been double at 32. Bryan was dumped after that game, and has played every game in the twos, and bar one match a couple of weeks ago, has been one of the best players, providing a focal point up forward, leading the goalkickers on 18 goals, and he is averaging three goals a game. Now had it not been for L.Brown, we would of had a better look at whether Bryan was going to make that step or not. MM has it against Bryan, because his form has warranted a call up a number of times, over other underperforming teammates, but because MM plays favourites, Bryan will be finished at years end, and I believe given the chance, he may just of been a player that was a success story, but MM doesn't want too many success stories, because as you mention, we need to delist someone, and if Bryan showed something, we might have to get rid of Brown, heaven forbid. Brown is perfect for our mediocre mindset, he fits the side perfectly, he is versatile in so many mediocre ways, so he stays:thumbsu:

Funny song I heard on the way back over the WestGate after the game the other night, LEIGH BROWN, the bloke sung in a monotone voice, can't remember how it went, and I didn't think much of it at the time, but it was quiet humourous, it would be good with some vision of Leighs finest work compilation. By finest I mean like the goal that he missed from the side of the goal square, 5 meters out. IT WAS BIG BAD LEIGH BROWN, BIG BAD LEEIIIGH BROOOWWNN that killed the BRYZEE BEAR.:p

To those who think Brown is marvellous after one good game, my comment during the last quarter of the game was "Bryan or Dawes could of done that, probably more", and the guy in front of me, turned and gave me a nod of approval. Must of been a switched on bloke.

.

In my opinion Chris Bryan has no footy smarts. How many times I have seen the bloke jump in a ruck contest only to miss the ball and land on his backside. Not that long ago, if you all remember, against Geelong he dumped Selwood , Selwood got a free kick , kicked a goal and we all know what happened afterwards.. Its all good to be a massive unit but if you don’t use it to your own team's advantage then its completely useless.
There are some players in our team that when they get the ball I know that majority of our supporters cringe. Leigh Brown is one of them , so is Cook, Barham, Toovey etc.. But this thread is not about them its about Chris Bryan.

He would have to be the front runner for getting chopped at the end of the year. He was brought in to fill a gap and he has done that. Its time to move on.

Im not exactly sure why he is not in the 22 at the moment. He has been dominant at Full Forward in the VFL. I have been watching him closely the last 4-6 weeks. He has kicked at least 2 goals in every game (i think he peaked at 4 gaols twice during that time) He has kicked 23 Goals 10 Behinds for the year at VFL level. Only Jack has kicked better than that for us this year in the seniors.

Time to get Wood out and get Bear in play him out of FF with Jack and Rusling... Bring in Medders and leave Cloke in the 2's for 2-3 weeks to get some form up. We need Trav in good form at the business end of the season.

Bryan has served his purpose as a back-up ruckman. Wood has passed him by as expected and Keefe looks the goods. And Fraser is having a good year and seems to have 5-6 years left in him.

Bryan is now playing as a forward (and doing it well) but with Rusling Anthony Dawes Cloke Reid etc ahead of him and L Brown as a superior choice as a backup, theres little hope for him there.

Time to delist him and rookie list a 200cm 18 year old as the next generation project player.

Bear is and always will be little more thyan a depth player. Wood if he continues his improvement is the future for the club as far as the ruck goes.

I would not be too quick to shelve Bryan as a project.
If Wood or Fraser go down injured for any extended period he would be needed again.
We should consider him our fall back and keep working hard to improve his game so he is a valuable asset, even if he is not needed his trade value would be vastly improved if he had some AFL form.
Keefe is a long term project and can't come into the equation for a few years yet I would think.

We have won a couple of games and had one awesome quarter of football. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves with trade speculation.
Likewise with the Sack.

We may be hanging on their every move come seasons end.

I reckon this would even it up; If Leigh Brown plays this week, giving him a block of 10 games from round two, then from round 12 to 22 Bryan should be given a block of 10 games. Who ever overall was the better player at that time, keeps his spot in the team, out of Chris Bryan and Leigh Brown. If it was one or the other, I would pefer Chris Bryan myself. Malty is too scared to try what I have suggested, in case he is wrong. He can redeem the situation after this weekends game though, and swap the two. If not leave them both out. Dawes is better than the both of them, as is Reid.

I think the players that won't be there next year is Ben Johnson, really can't see us getting anymore out of him, Leigh Brown one game doesn't make a player, and I am hoping the new coach will see that straight away
bucksleighbrown.jpg

If Malty gets the job again, lets hope he finally realises that Leigh Brown is the back up we recruited him for, not a every week player. Not saying he won't ever become good, that is up to Leigh, but he hasn't shown much to warrant such favouritism, so it must be coming from behind closed doors, as to why Leigh Brown?

Also going out will be Stanley and Cook. That is 4 out, and has Presti changed his mind about next year, or was he taken out of context, earlier this year? Rocca too may hang up the boots, not alot going right with him. Anthonie Corrie, I think he has proved to be quiet unsuccessful.

So that is 6 - Johnson, L.Brown, Stanley, Cook, Rocca and Corrie.
1) Keefe, 2) Blair, 3) Reed, 4) First pick, 5) Second Pick, 6) Third Pick, 7) Fourth pick. So one more must go out? If that is the case, Bryan, O'Bree, Toovey, Cox and Rusling would be all in contention for the other out. If Leigh Brown becomes a keeper, we are in trouble. Who else can be dropped. Bryan take Browns spot of outs, but still surely if we need 4 outs for the draft, I can't see us doing it without including one if not both.

As far as other Rookies, Keep Bennell and Francis on rookie, don't really want another Nathan Lovett Murray or Brad Boyd incidents, these two have a little bit , give them time. Thoolan Gone, Dyas Gone.
