Chris Bryan In The Pre Season????

Can anyone else see any value in drafting Chris Bryan in the pre season? I dont think you can have too many big bodies in a young side. If he were to come to hawthorn he would straight away become our most athletic ruckman. After his falling out with pagan 2006 was a complete write off so we can just forget that he went round, but he showed a bit towards the end of 2005. His work ethic is somtimes questioned but I think that the club would be strong to make sure he does the requirred work. One of his greatest qualities is that he can get the ball, somthing that our ruckmen dont seem to be able to do enough. I reckon any athletically gifted ruckman who can take a mark and most importantly win his own ball is worth a long hard look.

I can't see Hawthorn taking another ruckman in the PS especially after we drafted Renouf. That pick takes the ruck stocks to Campbell, Bailey, Tailey, Renouf plus McEntee on the rookie list.

Why not?

Even though Clarkson was quoted Renouf as a possible starter next year it doesn't mean he will play him. While Bailey and Renouf continue to develop a Clarke Keating could be an interim solution to support Campbell.

If Clarkson wishes get some game time into Bailey or Renouf then perhaps Campbell can be moved to the FB position to take the monster forwards.

Ruck work is quite physical and the last thing we want is Bailey or Renouf striked down with injury early in their careers.

I have little faith in Taylor at this stage which explains my line of thinking.

I totally agree with the Taylor statement, we get smashed in the clearances when he goes into the ruck.

However we performed quite well in the last part of the season without spider and I think Campbell and Bailey are up to the task. Should one get injured Taylor is there for backup or Renouf might get his chance.

One thing Al Clarkson has refused to do (and much to his credit) is draft/recruit stop gap solutions. IMO Bryan doesn't have a long term future in the game and he wont get someone in to do a job for 1 or 2 years while the youngsters develop.

The other reason Hawthorn won't draft Bryan is he's 24. Hawthorn won't recruit any players over the age of 23.

Have to agree with this. If Hawthorn didnt pick up a ruckman ready to play in 2007 then Cartlidge would have been a monty to be drafted... but.

I would think the ex roo Perry could be the one.

I also saw them in the birdcage but its not a massive surprise as he did play Rebels in TAC cup so is obviously from around that area. Clinton is one ugly mother by the way!!

Hear Hear! You'd think surely from playing with the likes of croad and crawford for the last 2 years he might've been able to get his hands on a decent suit. Also the belief that all AFL players get hot females has been blown away by the sort he was spotted with following the last race.
