Chris Dawes

If you offer pick 12 to the Pies they'll jump at it, make no mistake, Dawes is good but replaceable, while pick 12 will be reloading them with more young talent.

In the end they may have no choice if they can't fit him under the cap. Don't expect him to end up at Carlton BTW. We don't trade well with Collingwood, and when we do both sides try to screw the other

Doubtful. I don't think Hine really rates this year's draft. I'd only trade him for Lynch from the GC.

No they wouldn't. We're in the middle of our premiership window, why would we jump at the opportunity to bring in young talent at the expense of our 23 year old FF? Ridiculous. He is worth a lot more to us than a 16 pick upgrade on where we got him 5 years ago.

Chris Tarrant was undoubtedly a better player, but his form as a forward was already wavering and he was in the back third of his career. He fetched pick 8 and Paul Medhurst at a time when we were about to rebuild. Trading Dawes out now for pick 12 would just mean spending that pick to get an established KPF to replace him because we have very little in the way of key forwards in the reserves to replace him.

If a club wants Chris Dawes, they'll have to pay overs, make no mistake about that. Every Collingwood player the media has queried this year (and they've nearly gone through the whole list) has signed up, I don't expect Dawes will be any different.

Wouldn't consider Dawes replaceable to be honest.

He isn't an out and out gun. But structurally very important and takes pressure off Cloke allowing Cloke to have a greater influence on games.
Has greater value to Collingwood than he would to any other club because he isn't that key forward who will ever take games by the scruff of the neck like some of the best power forwards of the past have been able to do but will always provide that contest, crash packs and create that 2nd big forward target.

If ever he went would have to go very hard for a Tom Hawkins or similar - because we have zero depth forwards of any quality.

Brendan Fevola would be a work around. But an INCREDIBLY ugly one.

But don't expect the big man to go anywhere. Comes across as a very loyal man.

don't think they would have 500k in salary cap, Demons definately would.

Good key forwards are rare and we have two which is a huge advantage so why would we give him up. Particularly when our time is now. Any kid you draft in will take time and is no guarantee to be a good player. High draft pick doesn't guarantee star player.

We don't have another quality KPF coming through to replace Dawes so he won't be traded. The club would make a move on 1-2 of guys from outside our best 20 and given there's a couple of new clubs looking for mature players we should be able to make some deal/s.

As for cap space surely we'll be fine with Leon Davis to retire at the end of next year if not this year. Plus the salary cap should rise with the new tv deal. The only way I could see us trading Dawes would be to the GWS for 1-2 picks in the mini-draft and we would have to be under immense salary cap pressure.

Right age bracket for the Dees. And we certainly have room in the cap, and Mark Neeld as a senior coach.

We wouldn't expect him to come in and kick 60-70 goals next year. But he would be great for our structure, taking so much heat off Watts, Jurrah, Howe, and to a lesser extent Green. If he kicked 35-40, he'd be more than doing is job.

I'd offer pick 12, but nothing more. I consider us to have more pressing needs with our midfield.

If he is seeking cash he would link up with GWS.

However, he is not. Carlton have no chance whatsoever considering the hatred between both clubs who never deal with each other at the trade table and Melbourne/WB are not "attractive" options right now for a player who is a part of something great at this particular moment of his career.

Collingwood will not be fools, they will re-sign him.

i think it is serious, the coaching staff / recruiting department would rather lose one or two B-grade mids then Dawes. it wouldnt happen, its just media talk because of slow football news day. plus retirement of Davis, Johnson, tarrant within a year or two would ensure there is enough room in the cap.

As a stand alone player, I don't rate him very much. He is a decent KPF, but no star.
Structurally though, he is very important to the Pies.

I think Collingwood will probably end up getting a deal done with him, but if he were to be traded, it would be for a first round pick. Around pick 15 would be fair, no matter how much Collingwood fans attempt to overrate him.

Watts or Kreuzer? You're dreaming.

if he was going to gws it wouldnt be a trade.... they would take him as an uncontracted player.

i think in a way dawes as a player is over-rated

but as a player as a part of that forward unit his value is under-rated.

i cant see why a player who is first 22 and with a team contending gf's would leave.

he probably will re-sign, the only way i could see him leaving is if the pies really stretched themselves signing everyone else and really are offering him far below what he should get.

if he was to leave pick 12 is very good value all-round. he is not a star but what he offers is very good. pick 12 could be used or traded.

I reckon he's worth more than pick 15. Maybe around 8-10.

And obviously not worth Watts or Kreuzer, but he was just making the point that the pies would prefer him to pick 10-15, and obviously Blues/Dees fan would prefer Kreuzer/Watts to him.

KPFs are like gold, and Dawes is more than decent. He holds heaps of currency and Collingwood would be massively disadvantaged to give up a potential 7ish year partnership with Cloke.

Dawes is an average player playing in the best team in the league.

Kicked 24 goals for the year and ranked 80th in the league for overall goals contributed for the season. Top put that into perspective he's ranked 8th for goals contributed at his own club let alone in the league.

Yes he missed some games and yes he's only 23 but lets face the facts he's a journeyman and highly likely to always be one. He worth a late first rounder in this years draft or an early to mid second rounder in a normal draft.

If MFC could get Dawes interested then I'd offer Collingwood Jamar - Jolly is finished and Wood is not ready. MFC can go with Gawn and Martin with Spencer recovering from injury and retain Robert Campbell as insurance.

Journeyman?

Which AFL club did he play for before Collingwood?

Sometimes I wonder if people actually know what words mean when they use them.

Dawes reminds me (a lot) of Brad Miller.
Irrelevant but anyway.

I've been through this argument, I definitely agree with you; but there's an American dictionary definition out there which says you can be defined a journeyman by just staying in the one place for a while and not doing a lot.
Patently ridiculous, but apparently 'true'.
