FWIW he'd lost the dressing room and the players were picking the side.

I'm not disappointed by the decision - even though I don't agree with it and it's somewhat of a surprise - but I'll be disappoitned if we appoint a numpty like Curbishley or Pardew.

O'Neill is the most realistic choice

Funny thing is we don't even have an assistant manager to take over as caretaker :D

We have about 2 people left in the coaching staff - probably exactly what Ashley wants to cut down on wages.

Peter Beardsley will take over I'd imagine.

What price Mike Ashley rolling up his sleeves and doing the job himself after chewing through his fourth or fifth manager? His stack 'em high, sell 'em low acumen is the perfect fit when you think about it.

Spot on with Beardsley at this stage. Until a permanent replacement is found.

He supports Liverpool and Man Utd. Don't know who FC would support in the North West Derby though.

Martin Tyler mentioned that Martin Jol will be taking the job.

I would LOVE it if Martin Jol takes over.

Let's face it - huge coincidence if he doesn't but I won't get my hopes up just yet. He's too good for us, I'm looking forward to Pardew getting us relegated.

There's obvious problems with discipline at the club, can't help but think that might have contributed to Hughton's downfall. He's too nice to be a premier league manager.

Jol quitting Ajax same time the job comes up could be a massive coincedence, mentioned how much he wanted to manage in england when going for the Fulham job.

We were linked with Jol at the start of the year so it's no real suprise the rumour is at it again.

Hopefully we get him, but a massive thanks to Chris for all he's done at the club. Havent been his most massive fan, but have given him credit when he's deserved it.

I think he was more interested in being everybody's friend ala coach rather than their manager, which is really what he should stick to. Last year we had the squad all we needed was somebody to build morale and it worked perfectly. To stay up this season we need a real manager.

FWIW I would have been happy for Chris to stay until the end of season, but December shows that Ashley wants somebody to have a month to work then be able to spend 2-5mil or so in January to bring in some fresh blood. Always best to cut ties before the end of December if you know you don't want them their til the end of season.

Once again, a massive thanks to Chris Hughton and this is a massive loss to the football club. He's done an unbelievable job.
