Haven't been able to find a thread about this guy in these parts, so here it is. Here is a profile of him from the Carlton website.:thumbsu:

Half-back/midfielder who has been given a second chance after failing to come to terms with Melbourne at the end of last season. The son of former Melbourne star Alan Johnson played 10 games in 2008, producing fine football in the second half of the year. Missed the Demons’ final three games of 2008 with a groin injury. Excellent kick and should be a valuable acquisition.

Draft History:

2003NAB AFL Draft 3rd round father-son selection (Melbourne) No. 36 overall; 2009 NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft 1st round selection (Carlton) No. 4 overall.

Previous Club
Melbourne: 31 games, 2 goals (2005-2008)

Re: 9. Chris Johnson (better late than never)

Before our Round 3 clash I would have had him behind Scotty, so it was a slight surprise to see him keep his spot ahead of him. Anyway.
Will need to be doing very well to keep his spot, with others coming back in sooner or later.
For a half-back flanker, his defensive efforts and contested possessions appear to be below average. What he does have is the ability to get a reasonable amount of it and dispose of it with exquisite precision.:thumbsu:
Perhaps a centre wing role is where he may end up and where he may play his best, where he can get some outside possessions and run and carry. Fev and co will be licking their lips with him delivering it into the forward 50.;) But with the likes of Simpson and Grigg playing that part it may not be all that easy.
He is, however, a bit more versatile than Simmo IMO, so it may be him and not Scotty that he could be competing with for a spot in our 22 at some stage.

Re: 9. Chris Johnson (better late than never)

I've been thinking the same thing.

Johnson and stevens on the two wings delivering the ball into the forward fifty should be at least tried I think.

Scotland on the back flank, grigg on the forward flank.

Re: 9. Chris Johnson (better late than never)

I'm obviously not being kind enough to him, I will add he's good at reading the play and is a decent enough mark.:thumbsu:
Still stick by my initial criticisms of him however, in particular in the contested ball which is what Brett Ratten may have dropped Scotland for in the first place.

Re: 9. Chris Johnson (better late than never)

I quite like him I gotta say.

I never feel particularly confident on him trying to do a one on one or a spoiling roll on a reasonably dangerous opposition forward or anything, but then again the same could be said about Scotty. As you said, contested ball basically.

But otherwise I like everything else he brings to the table. :thumbsu:

Re: 9. Chris Johnson

WTF! LOL.

Oh Chris, I'm so glad you're at our club. Now when i type Carlton Football Club into google images, you come up without your shirt on. Lovely :) Good luck with the bullants you sexy beast.

"Just sign here and you can play for two years!"

D Nine is about to take off.

Should count himself lucky if he plays a game this year.

Re: 9. Chris Johnson

Poor guy, you can just tell he won't make it past this season. Watched our game against the Bulldogs on Youtube last night and he turned it over just soo many times that the other players were practically embaressed to tell him off

poor guy? lucky guy to have gotten a game/contract for the last couple of seasons.

Re: 9. Chris Johnson

Has been named in the best for the first two weeks for the Bullants. If he does get another chance in the firsts, maybe the fact that he has spent alot of time in the reserves might see him harder at the ball and more composed with his kicking. A long shot I know but stranger things have happened.

Re: 9. Chris Johnson

He was very good for the Bullants on Saturday, but the step up from VFL to AFL, especially with regards to pressure, is a huge one.

His skills are brilliant in the lower league when he is under less pressure and has more time to dispose of the ball, but the pressure gets to him in the AFL and his disposal and decision making become ordinary.

He is a brilliant user of the football in general, but unless he can iron out these issues he has with the step-up to AFL football, he will struggle to not only get a game but also to stay on our list past this season.

Time is running out for him and fast.
