Just thought it was interesting watching Open Mike and how Judd rates Shirley as his most toughest tagger. It shows Shirley does do his job well, thoughts?

Wow that's an eye opener. I wonder how much notice the club would take of that - that's massive praise from a champion, when he has dozens of players across all teams to choose from. RS has been very good for a long time now in that role - as many do, I thought this was going to be his last season, but you never know. If a Dogga or VB get injured, they may need him in the negating role.

nothing new here, we can see from the results that Shirley has had a great record on him.
Yeah I am not sure why people are acting all suprised by this. Its a well known fact that Shirley plays Judd like a glove and has a terrific record on him. From memory Juddy only won the match up once.

Shirley has had his measure! Mind you I thought young Mick Doughty was also superb on Judd a few weeks ago.

Re: Chris Judd Interview - Shirley #1 tagger

I confess as I was watching and waiting for Judd (AKA Mr Twigley :D)
to answer the question, I was saying "Shirley, Shirley, Shirley" and he did. :)

Huge kudos for Rob. Arguably the best midfielder in the comp for the last 5 years rates him his toughest opponent. Put that on your CV.

Overall a good interview (well done by the much maligned Mike). Judd came across as a smart, likeable professional. A credit to the game.

The show finished off with a Cometti classic - "You can't teach that. Just thank Mr & Mrs Judd."

and betterthanu - Mike did keep his pants on - just

If only he had a semi descent game when it really mattered. Judd was in the WCE top 3 players in the 2006 preliminary final and was in the top 5 in the 2005 preliminary final.

Didn't think of that, however Judd had a super midfield back then supporting him and he lifts to a new level in finals. But no excuses for Shirley. However he should be proud of what he's done at the end of his career.

That’s why taggers are irrelevant. If you win the ball first, you don’t have to worry about negating and if you’re not good enough to win that ball - you shouldn’t play. No disrespect to Robert Shirley.

Very good sum up of the interview sydcrow. I've watched Open Mike before and Sheehan has been a true professional in both. I actually don't mind his articles, has good footy analysis and knows far more about the game than the witch Caroline Wilson.;)

Ok, fair call, I don't agree but it's your opinion.:thumbsu:

he certainly was strong in 2006, but there is a little poetic license here.

But did he negate Judd out of the game? If not, he didn’t fulfill his role in the team structure.

He is a tagger, his job is to tag. Judd was an influence that day, he didn’t do his job, even if he play well.

Judd had a very good game early in the 2005 PF, it was probably Rob's worse performance. However there was a reason for this as Rob was knocked out late in the final v Port and should not have played that PF.

sorry for changing the subject slightly, i just dont want to make a whole new thread when im just asking a question..

does anyone know what segment in 'on the couch' adelaide is discussed..?..

It's kind of ironic that a post praising a tagger has turned negative so quickly.

how about we accept that he is one of the best taggers in the comp and move on? I'm sure there's an 05/06 post somewhere you can whinge on if you really want to

Hang on, that game was very pivotal in our history. If people want to give him praise for being a good tagger, people have to accept he didn’t perform him duty that day doing the job they want to praise him for.

Good to hear that Caro reckons we're closer to the premiership than Gold Coast. Thompson on the other hand reckons he probably wants to leave to become the marquee player. We got about 30 seconds on the show.

Why couldn’t he become a marquee player with us?

It was a backhanded compliment in a way saying that we already have a bunch of young stars that he'll share the limelight with, but there's also the issue of him being a Gold Coast kid and therefore a home-town hero at GC17.

Longer than we got on One Week At A Time, they mentioned Ben Rutten's name during the Barry Hall rant, and in the question time asked "Can the Crows win the premiership?" which Robert Walls answered with "No."

Inspiring stuff.

Pretty sure Thomas hates the Crows for whatever reason.

Yeah I realize that but in terms of football, everything they can offer him, so can we.

Grant Thomas is a douche.

Everybody has a bad day - he just had one at a shitty time.
