Hi John,
I really appreciate your inputs to this board.
I have only recently got into him and am loving him. He is extremely underrated.
I will definitely follow your advice.
Years ago I posted a nina nastasia song and you liked it. Did you end up getting any of her albums? She did an album with jim white called 'you follow me' - definitely worth getting if you haven't already.![]()
).Hell yeah. You have fine fine taste diablo14.

No I did not get Nina Nastasia but should get of my behind and do so. I caught Jim White drumming live for the first time this year with the Dirty Three. What an entertaining sticks man.
I've been listening to a shitload of Flying Nun lately.
Unfortunately I am ill, otherwise I would be at the east Brunswick Club watching the Chills this evening![]()
. Pearl Jam and Neil Finn played Not Given Lightly as a tribute to Chris in Auckland recently. A wobbly audience Youtube below. Gotta feeling I just might have been singing along as well.

I also have an original 7" vinyl copy of Not Given Lightly. (brag brag).
On Stroke - Songs For Chris Knox Yo La Tango cover Coloured from Chris' 1990 album Croaker.
It's Love is covered by The Pyjama Party who are in fact Neil and Liam Finn and various other Finn family members.
Not Given Lightly is covered by by Boh Runga. Terrific version.
Along with lots of NZ artistes whom I admire there are a host of US artists that have contributed to this fine tribute such as Stephen Merritt, Bill Callahan AKA Smog, Lambchop and Mountain Goats.
A fine album and I can not speak highly enough of it.
fantastic post, john. completely agree. i got the Flying Nun 25th Anniversary Boxset a few years back and instantly fell in love with it.I have an unfortunate one about the Bats. They played on the night of my sons 21st. I had a great night with my son but I wished they had played another night as I suspect I might not get another chance to see them.
The Chills hey! What a band. They Do Luck Or Luveliness on Stroke and are not coming to Brisbane.

The entire Dunedin Sound scene was fantastic. Much more my style than the pub rock scene that was prevalent this side of the pond. Easily my favourite scene. So many good groups putting out enjoyable home made pop for the fun of it.

Also check out the Able Tasmans, JPS Experience and Snapper. All top bands.
Chris Knox, what a song writer! Putting on Beat now.

. "They can't sing" gets repeated over and over again. I love it. Top tune. Matthew Bannister from the Sneakies wrote a terrific book about their time in the sun called Positively George Street. Very hard to get and my mate from the Bird Nest Roys sent me a copy because he and the rest of the roys had a pic a few nice words written about them. I ended up getting the Positively George Street CD sent over from NZ and I like it for it's pop rawness but as I impied it has to played only at certain times
. Quality thread. Thanks to those who put the vids up. When I hear them I always recall how good the Chills were.
John, you might have to hook me up, my friend!![]()
