Get yourself Beat Nicky. One of the most under appreciated records in the history of music. Its Love is the opening track.

Having said that get yourself the entire discography of both Chris as a solo artiste, his punk band The Enemy and also Toy Love and wonderful The Tall Dwarfs with Eric Bathgate. His last 2 albums are with a band called The Nothing and are both good, I had to ship them in from NZ as they are unavailable this side of the pond. He had a stroke last year and is sadly incapacitated. Here is the web site that keeps us appreciators up to date with the great man's health.

http://www.chrisknox.co.nz/

A tribute album to help Chris called Stroke - Songs For Chris Knox is available locally and is a fantastic record.

I have been in love with this man's music for ever and always will be.

Hi John,

I really appreciate your inputs to this board.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

I have only recently got into him and am loving him. He is extremely underrated.

I will definitely follow your advice.

Years ago I posted a nina nastasia song and you liked it. Did you end up getting any of her albums? She did an album with jim white called 'you follow me' - definitely worth getting if you haven't already. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

from memory, at the melb gig earlier this year Ira Kaplan from Yo La Tengo mentioned that Chris was his biggest influence.

Tengo singer Ira Kaplan said that many of his friends have been asking him who Knox is. He didn’t say this as a complaint, though, noting that “I’m comforted that so few people know who Chris is, that there are still people out there you’ve never heard of who can change your life.”

:)

No I did not get Nina Nastasia but should get of my behind and do so. I caught Jim White drumming live for the first time this year with the Dirty Three. What an entertaining sticks man.

Pearl Jam and Neil Finn played Not Given Lightly as a tribute to Chris in Auckland recently. A wobbly audience Youtube below. Gotta feeling I just might have been singing along as well.

I also have an original 7" vinyl copy of Not Given Lightly. (brag brag:)).

On Stroke - Songs For Chris Knox Yo La Tango cover Coloured from Chris' 1990 album Croaker.

It's Love is covered by The Pyjama Party who are in fact Neil and Liam Finn and various other Finn family members.

Not Given Lightly is covered by by Boh Runga. Terrific version.

Along with lots of NZ artistes whom I admire there are a host of US artists that have contributed to this fine tribute such as Stephen Merritt, Bill Callahan AKA Smog, Lambchop and Mountain Goats.

A fine album and I can not speak highly enough of it.

Her debut album 'dogs' is very good and the album she did with jim white is definitely worth having also. :thumbsu:

diablo thanks for posting the youtubes. I'm loving logs!!!!

I've been listening to a shitload of Flying Nun lately.

Unfortunately I am ill, otherwise I would be at the east Brunswick Club watching the Chills this evening :(

I have an unfortunate one about the Bats. They played on the night of my sons 21st. I had a great night with my son but I wished they had played another night as I suspect I might not get another chance to see them.

The Chills hey! What a band. They Do Luck Or Luveliness on Stroke and are not coming to Brisbane:o.

The entire Dunedin Sound scene was fantastic. Much more my style than the pub rock scene that was prevalent this side of the pond. Easily my favourite scene. So many good groups putting out enjoyable home made pop for the fun of it.

Pink Frost has claims on being the greatest song ever written. Absolute pop genius :thumbsu:

I don't have the 25th Anniversary Boxset Suspense but I have a DVD that I got in NZ called Very Short Films and has a lot of the tunes that have been posted on here. Well worth checking out for those that like the Dunedin Sound. Chris does Not Given Lightly and also Nothing's Going to happen as the Tall Dwarfs.

I adore Cactus Cat by Look Blue Go Purple. Top little pop song that one.
North By North by the Bats is a superb tune.

Also the Bird Nest Roys do Alien. I am biased as one of the members is a mate of mine but be that as it may their one and only album is a cult classic among us NZ music lovers. Well worth checking out if you can find it in blog world.

Also check out the Able Tasmans, JPS Experience and Snapper. All top bands.

Chris Knox, what a song writer! Putting on Beat now.

It's damn near impossible to find a lot of their stuff on youtube :(

Managed to hook up with a copy of The Bats 'Daddy's Highway' recently (and after great difficulty) and i've barely stopped playing it.

Quality thread. Thanks to those who put the vids up. When I hear them I always recall how good the Chills were.

John, you might have to hook me up, my friend! :D

Also Buddy by Snapper. Top tune.

That Sneaky Feelings Husband House you posted diablo is the source of great debate in my household. I love the song but the other half goes screaming from the room when I play the DVD:D. "They can't sing" gets repeated over and over again. I love it. Top tune. Matthew Bannister from the Sneakies wrote a terrific book about their time in the sun called Positively George Street. Very hard to get and my mate from the Bird Nest Roys sent me a copy because he and the rest of the roys had a pic a few nice words written about them. I ended up getting the Positively George Street CD sent over from NZ and I like it for it's pop rawness but as I impied it has to played only at certain times:D.

This is Jaffa Boy by the Roys. I love this song. A shoegaze feel before the term was invented.

I will get something to you later in the week. I have enough NZ music to sink a Flash Drive.

I actually thought I gave you Beat but they may have been Freddie. We had some nice things to say about it over a beer or 3 on Saturday:D.
