Welcome Chris Mayne - a local lad recruited from Perth Football Club. What do you guys know about our latest addition to the club??

Nicknames Chopper

Went to school with him, little bit of a dick, but he was alright
Loves the kangaroos, and has an afro?

Good mark on him, remember playing against him and he would outmark anyone, even guys 10/20 cm taller then him

Video shows he has good hands, good lead and also great footy smarts. He gave two no look handballs basically that went straight to team mates. He just knows where they are. Could be a bit of a steal.

pre draft profiles from BF posters:

Chris Mayne - ?? ???? 1989, 182cm 84kg. Perth
"BoyFromTheWest: Another 1988 birth player who was injured last year but has smashed them in colts, reserves and league this year playing at half back, half forward or midfield. Genuine pace, markes well, excellent disposal skills and genuine at the ball. Will play seniors in 08.

"Sico17: One club has very keen eyes on Mayne especially and will not be happy if he has an increased profile. I was surprised he didn't get into the U18's, plays mainly at FF when I have seen him but pinch hits in the centre when Perth are under pressure. A strong body for his age and seems to be the true leader of the Perth colts. His field kicking is a problem but his goal accuracy has been fine when I have seen him, he kicked the first 4 goals straight against Subiaco earlier this year the week after Subiaco had beaten Swan Districts.

"dan.wg: I got to agree he's a really good player and was best on ground or close to it everytime I umpired him. Mainly played forward and is pretty good on the lead. Goal kicking didn't seem to be a problem. Rarely played in the center and I figure hes more suited as a leading target. Maybe questions about his temperament, but not too much a problem. Has a fairly good head about him.

"Starling had been sterling in defence in the first
three quarters and early in the final term. Coach
Simon McPhee, searching for a match winner, moved Starling
into attack to play on Perth's talented Christopher Mayne,
who had been assigned a sweeping role of playing behind the
ball in Perth's backline."

Mayne also came ninth in repeated 30 metre sprints...handy for a leading forward.

also note in the above link of Clayton Hinkley

"Yes he can kick goals ... 24 goals in 10 colts games this year, including bags of three, four and seven.
Promoted to reserves and kicked two in his second match.
Immediately promoted to seniors and made a courageous debut. Can he take a hit? He was decked by Lyster in the second term
of that debut match and came off but returned to the field to finished just outside Perth's best. Nine kicks, eight marks ,
a chance to kick the winning goal (but scored a point) and 10 "one percenters".
He then kicked three against Claremont in just his second senior game. 19 touches, nine marks , three straight majors.
Strong contested marks too, not Joel Bowden specials (cheap mickey mousers across half back).
Good work ethic, good team player, runs hard to tackle, spoil and shepherd and gut runs to make space and lead (similar to Roo).
But of course he's no Roo.Good skills, very strong hands, clean hands in traffic. Only 17. "

These are the bits that I especially like!

Obviously the bolded ones are our new guys...

The ones in purple are guys who didn't get selected.

Joel Smouha is a 200cm+ ruckman from QLD... apparently would be a long-term project but given these test results is surprising no-one picked him up.

David Gourdis is from Subi - a 190cm+ key forward with the ability to play down back also. I seriously hope we look at him for the PSD, although apparently he is heading to Melbourne on Monday to train with Richmond in the hope they pick him up.

Paddy McGinnity. I would love him at Freo.

* Steven Gaertner can be selected in the PSD, but is too young to be rookied.

I know I'm being a bit bullish...but he sounds like a James Hird type player.

If he turns out half as good as him...
not really, but he is a utility, knows how to mark a ball as well, playing against him against year 8 he slayed us:(
