When is he due back and where will he play?

not many people notice but He is a decent sized man and if he could gain 5-10 kilograms he could be the Big Full Forward / pack crashing marking target freo need.

( he is 188cm and 80kg but if he were 188cm and 90kg???????)

Wouldn't think so. I see him as a clever forward that gives pressure up the ground.

I wouldn't rush him back what made him so good last year was his running capacity and pressure skills. If he doesn't have any fitness base it'll be unfair to play him.

He has played mostly forward so far but I havn't seen really good "goal sense" from him to show that forward is his best position - I don't see him kicking bags of goals regularly. He is energetic, can mark and pressure and lead well, all good attributes for a forward. But he is also good in the packs with clean hands and carries the ball well. If we can get his fitness up he would be a good sized mid.

I think he'll be a better midfielder than forward. Time will tell though. As a half-forward/wing he'd be pretty effective I guess. I just love his speed and tenacity when he's around the ball. Gives it his all, every single time.

He could definately play a similar role in a season or two to what Mundy is now. Only Mayne would provide a far better option linking up between defence and forward. When on the ball he'd be a more athletic version of Solomon.

He spent quite a few games last season in defense against players considerably bigger than him and did a damn good job I thought, but that may just be part of his development.

Especially those 8 goals he let Goodes have ;)

Although to be fair it was probably only the first 5 :D

Lol if he is currently out with a case of gigantism I could see that happening :)

Although I am a little suprised at the 188cm

He is not a defender at this stage. Looked lost down there last year.

I think that was part of his learning curve. When Goodes is on fire like he was that day, there are not many who would have stopped him.I think Harvey played him there as an insight as to how to play the role as Goodes does.
I still think he will play forward when he returns. His pressure on holding the ball into out forward 50 was very good.

I see him as a daisy thomas type player no not coz of the hair.

But similar body type an very similar playing style.
Mainly plays in forward half an is where he is most dangerous and value to team.
Can take marks overhead or on the lead with his speed.
Defensive pressure when forward is top notch.
Very smart player knows where to go to be dangerous and generally picks right options to pass to.
Can also move up to wing if hes not getting much action.

Daisy Thomas is laxy lazy imo

I see Mayne more like a Ryan O'Keefe. Strong leading half forward, a good mark above his head and someone who will run all day. Also in that he is capable to have a run in the middle and around the ground too.

Can't say I see any similarity to Dale Thomas. Thomas is a lazy and flashy player, Mayne seems more like a tough and hard working player.

Finally back playing reserves such great news our forward line hasn't been the same without him. I wonder how long before he returns to AFL level im thinking 4 or so weeks.

Spot on mate :thumbsu:

The sort of player who you dont realise how important they are to the team until they arent there... even if its only to serve the purpose of keeping the likes of Murphy/Thornton/Gilmore in the 2's

Needs to kick more goals if he's going to make the team as a forward. We have missed his defensive pressure though
