Chris McDermott is no better or worse than anyone else who writes in this town. The trouble with journo's over here is the limited material to write or comment on. If they just look to other areas of the country and wrote on other players/clubs/issues then it may just bring some credibility to their work.
I mean really, how much has the Advertiser devoted to the Crows since they were ousted - probably received more press than the Power who are still in it, and as for the rest of the teams fighting it out, forget about it!
Here is my marks out of 10 (McDermott style) for the local commentators in this state.
KG Cunningham 3/10 - How does this guy still have a job? 30 years of calling and good on him, but he can't string a sentance together and his calling of football is terrible. Clearly cannot tolerate anyone criticising the Crows or Lleyton Hewitt. Hopefully retirement is not too far away.
Graham Cornes 4/10 - Marginally better than KG. Seems to bring a little more sense to the table but often starts an arguement just for the sake of it. Clearly has a chip on his shoulder about Victoria which is tolerated over here. Once again, criticism is frowned upon by him unless you have played 300 games of AFL football.
Michaelangelo Rucci 4/10 - His bias towards Pt Adelaide is there for all to see, and struggles to let go of mickey mouse issues such as "why don't the Crows get called chokers" and "Scott Thompsons dishonoured bet". Hates Collingwood and is revered for it, as the Chief Writer of football for the only paper in town has to carry the can for it's performance. But like all jobs in the media in Adelaide - once you have it, it appears you have it for life! As the Chief Football writer cannot display bias.

Steven Rowe 2/10 - Adelaide's answer to Rex Hunt. While Rex Hunt's star is beginning to fade in Melbourne somehow Rowe's remains bright in Adelaide. A self confessed goose surely Adelaide can produce better than this. Remember - just because he barracks for the Crows - it doesn't make him good!
Max Stevens 3/10 - Probably the main reason why 5AA is the number one caller of football. Anyone who spouts "you can either agree with me or be wrong" as his catch cry is clearly full of himself. There isn't a more arrogant man calling or commentating on football. Football managers shouldn't be football commentators!
Andrew Capel 5/10 - Hasn't completely reverted to the biased dribble as others mentioned above. Appears to be the writer of facts and that is it - doesn't put his own opinion often which makes him better than Rucci but means he lacks balls as well.
Jesper Feldstead?? 6/10 - Questions convention in his writing style by being more balanced (i.e - not Anti Victorian) and having a better style. With this sort of style he may be digging his own grave as generally, people over here tend to only want to read about their team and read fluffy, easy to read stories about their team. Best writer in the Advertiser.
There are probably others, I haven't included Rebecca Wislon or Dwayne Russel as they are sindicated columns from interstate writers.
Incidentally, does anyone know if KG went bananas on his employee Ch.7 on their Today Tonight story on Ley Ley and Bec like he did on Rebecca Wislon? It would be interesting to know!
