One of the few positives out of the Melbourne game.

He looked comfortable, made good decisions, excellent vision and 20 disposals. An all round quality display in his first game. Looks a ready-made player and, albeit based on one game, seems to have fully justified his call-up.

Cheers Chris and here's to a long career with the Crows :thumbsu:

Excellent post...amidst all the doom and gloom I too was impressed with this debut for AFC.

Did not try and overplay any of his possessions, just chose the smartest option and got rid of it effectively. A really positive first up performance..well done Chris:thumbsu:

I was just thinking before that there should be a thread on this, I actually thought he was high in our best players, was the one thing I actually liked about the game, the rest of it, pffft, already been said by others.

One other thing that was almost ok was Burton, he actually looked good in the 1st half, did he forget how to kick while he was ionjured, it seemed worse than ever and he's never been that accurate. For that matetr, has every played lost the ability to kick, including Porps?? We are Shi.te in every area right now and this is a huge concern..

let's keep this thread on topic

there are plenty of other threads on which to have a whinge :)

Good post SydCrow :thumbsu:, very satisfied with Schmidty's debut, definately didn't look at all uncomfortable out there, the highlight was his first class disposal, some of the more experienced players would do well to take a leaf out of his playbook!! :thumbsu:

Prooved me wrong a bit, was certainly concerned prior to his debut about is disposal and ability under pressure but certainly handled himself well against the Demons. I suppose a bigger test will come if he can hold his spot in the team for next few weeks and how he plays against better quality forward lines.

Well done by Schmidt. I'm not certain he's got any outstanding qualities, but his all round OK was better than the craptastic stuff being served up by others.

A very solid debut.

He was probably the Crows most confident and capable backman on the weekend. Seemed to know what he wanted to do with the ball and just made it happen. Not like the others who seem to second guess every split second decision.

I think he showed a lot of the x-factor obsessives on this board that there's nothing wrong with being vanilla, and just taking the right option and executing every time. You can't have a team full of Chris Schmidts as you would never break a line, but every good team has their less eye catching, more serviceable types. I'd be more than happy if he plays like that every week.

Yep very pleased with his 1st game. I think he could be the replacement in Otto's role. I know in our last nab challenge match against the blues he tagged Judd out of the game so he may get the 2nd crack at him if Radar cant keep Juddy under wraps this week.

Oh but he is vanilla and we need players with xfactor .

Coaches want xfactor they don't want consistent performers, they want players that a crap most of the time but occasionally are good.

still upset that burton was our best (arguably only) forward?

good.

It's nice to have a positive thread to post in rather than all the other boring misplaced hysteria. :thumbsu:

What I liked about Chris Schmidt's game that he adopted the KISS principle. Kicked when he should have, handballed when he should have. Found a man virtually every time he disposed of it.

He'll never be a star, but if he plays like that every week, he'll be a pretty handy addition to our team. :thumbsu:

Thought he was OK .....but as I have said a Vanilla type so I am not too excited by what he brings

I do find it funny though that players like Doughty suffered years of abuse on this board for not going hard enough at the contest ......yet Schmidt's OBVIOUS pull out of a critical contest barely rates a mention  ......interesting

Yeah, that didn't look too flash. At the time, I was thinking, "Oh good, we have someone there to mark it." and then I was like, "Hey WTF?!"

Looked comfortable without being overly impressive. We'll see I guess.
I agree with your first sentence, but personally that gave me cause to be excited. Schmidt is exactly that sort of player - no frills, just gets the job done and keeps working - but there's been concerns over his ability to handle the bigger bodies and fast pace of AFL. Admittedly, it was against Melbourne who don't have that many big bodies, but Schmidt looked as composed and in control as any Crow did on Sunday.

If he can continue to play that sort of game he'll be extremely useful in our defence. A player who puts himself in the right positions, doesn't panic, reads the play well enough to know when to run off, and is fit enough to keep doing it all day? Yes please. Even more pleasing that his disposal by foot looked much better than it has in the past.

He might not be that useful if he starts to shirk contests tho, that was piss poor they way he avoided the contest on the weekend. He wouldn't want to be doing that again. We need the type of player to stand infront of leading fowards, fill up gaps, hit the ball hard. I couldn't help but feel he was a tad soft. Considering he has played with Brisbane before it was a tad concerning to me. Willing to give him time to work it out though.

Saying that I was impressed with the way he used the ball and made the right decisions.
