Coming soon to destroy the sleep patterns you have developed.

Hexagons replacing squares on the map, no stacking of units, ranged units can shoot more than one tile.

I still play Civ 4 every other day.

This is going to ruin those Law School ambitions I had.

To be honest I'm still playing Civ2(since '97) and Civ3. :p

me too (civ II)

My current target is max population by 500AD

If Civ II had random rather than patterned resources it would be the perfect game

I've played Call to Power 2 - not a bad game at all.

I've also played Civilization since the original (I still remember building railroads across the ocean with settlers on boats - best bug ever). I'd have to say that Civ2 and Civ4 have been my favorites. I could never get into Civ3 for some reason.

IMHO Civilization 4 was their best effort yet - plenty of balance and replayability, plus excellent real-time online gaming. I'm hoping that they get it right with Civ5 as well.

I hope they add more to this game, rather than subtact it to try an appeal to the asual market (ah-la the latest railroad tycoon 'effort')

If they could incude a better balanced 'giant earth map' type scenario complete with colonies declaring independance, babarians becoming civilised etc... then I will never play another game again :)

You can have colonies declaring independence in BTS expansion.

Oh and Earth Map should NEVER be balanced, its realistic the way it is - Europe always wins. Just like real life.

Oh, I didnt mean that kind of balance. I meant that the current colonies declaring independance is unbalanced - it reaches a point were you can do nothing about their rebellion far too quickly... and you have to constantly deliberatley surrender and re-take cities just to start at a point where you can keep it again. Its frustrating and unrealistic and the only reason why I stopped playing.

World shouldn't be balanced - but I always foudn china wins :p

Are you playing Earth 18 Civs?

Its much more fun when the place is chockablock, and the Americas develop on their own anyway.

Pretty much impossible to lose, on any difficulty if you start as France, Rome, Spain or Germany and start knocking off your euro buddies really early and develop an early religion.

The Chinese usually become your main rival but the Persians, Russians and Mongols tend to keep them from expanding too far into India, who always seems to get boned.

Prefer the French personally :)

always been a fan of RTS games, never really got into turn based

is this worth giving a go now that i'm now 13 anymore?

currently playing starcraft 2 and loving it, or is this a completely different style of game?

Dude, I'm a big fan of RTS games, and I'm usually not a fan of Turn based stuff, but I love Civilisation. Really in-depth and just awesome.

But yeah, check out the demo when it comes out and see if you like it.

Rofltown: Give it a try. I'm not sure if it will be your thing but as far as I'm concerned the Civ series is the greatest computer game in history. It has amazing depth and replayability. I still regularly play Civ 4 and it's four years old.

Thanks for the review FGMPR. I can't wait for this to be released.
