get your girlfriend hooked on Civ.:thumbsu:

Just remember to let her beat you once in a while.I learnt the hard way:o

When I was dating my now wife, I bought her an XBOX and games and she loved it. Nowadays she's a 360 freak with a passion for FPS', with a unhealthy:thumbsu: love of the Fallout series.

I even got her into various Sci-Fi. Now she loves Babylon5 and Stargate.

I get to play all the Civilization I want without any complaints of being on the computer too long, because we share similar interests overall, just not in the games we play though.

You guys have to marry a gamer chic, or, get her into gaming to the point where she gets right into it and loving it.

While I turned my wife into an avid gamer, I haven't yet convinced her of sports. That's a work in progress.

That's pretty cool tesseract. Gaming chicks are pretty great.
I had many a good time just chillin', playing video games with my ex, who was a pretty avid gamer.

I had a girlfriend in the early 90's whom I have a daughter too that just couldn't understand Civ so flicked her and now my daughter is doing her VCE, living with me and just doesn't get Civ IV!

I tried to convert my girlfriend to Collingwood when she started watching aussie rules with me,but she is a brisbane girl so she elected to go for the Lions instead so that backfired badly:o

yeah i was lucky, she played the sims a lot so I got her off that crap and now she loves Civ and life is great:) Had to put a lot of time into explaining everything though.Civ takes years to "master" and she wanted to learn it all overnight

I introduced my old flatmate to Civ II (at the time) and got him addicted. He used to get me to start up a game before I went to work and he would spend the rest of the day finishing it off - he was a cop at the time and worked funny hours so we were basically tag-teaming a game so to speak.

Hey guys, just jumped onto steam and realised there's a sale on Civ5, it's currently $22 USC, as opposed to the usual $99.
Thought I had better jump on and make some noise about it as there's quite a few people out there that have always wanted to try it but it's usually too expensive. :)
Fantastic game, I don't usually like turn based strategy but this one is good.

i was always waiting for a steam sale, but the reviews and changes from previous civs turned me off. i will probably play civ 2, 4, alpha centauri again and again before buying another civ.

Don't be fooled Civ V is an awesome game.

Will be even better next month when the new expansion pack comes out.

GreenManGaming also have Game of the Year edition for $12.50 at the moment (75% off the US price)

or standard for $7.50

Civ V is a "Steamworks" game and requires Steam, so in the end it works out the same as buying with Steam.

FWIW, GreenManGaming are totally legit, just like Steam (not one of those dodgy "cd-key" stores). They have their own download manager like Steam, but for "Steamworks" titles you don't use GMGs downloader, you just get the serial number to activate it in Steam, and then download with Steam. I bought standard Civ V there myself during a sale a while back, and just yesterday bought all the DLCs there (which are also currently on sale).

Agreed, Civ V is my favourite - the end of unit stacking is the single best change made in the series IMO.

Anyone played the new expansion yet?

I downloaded it last weekend and have played it a little bit. Seems quite good, alot of new things added to the game.

Religion and Espionage seem to change the game a fair bit in the latter stages.

The new civs look good, but i obviously haven't had alot of time with them. The natural wonders are certainly incresed (Ayres Rock) even makes the cut.

Any one else played? opinions?

Feels like Civ 5 is a complete game now, this is what the product should have been at vanilla. Having triple the fun I was over vanilla, religion is a neat feature, going around converting people to my religion is fun, haven't got to use espionage yet, as I play Huge map types, 22 civs, 41 city states on marathon speed.

Pretty much agree with everything you have said.

Certainly matching my style of map there ;)

New expansion out guys. Maybe it's the search function, maybe it's me (I think a little of column A a little of column B) but I couldn't find a lot on the game - I thought more people played!

I am putting a thread up however in the hope of saving some people some money, namely those interested in getting the expansion.

It's around $45 (on sale from $49.99) on Steam at the moment, but check out GMG. Go there, it's on sale for $26.99.

At the checkout, put in

GMG20-F202F-UI40F

for a further saving, bringing the total down to $21.60. Over 50% off! So jump on it if you're a CIV fan. Also, any other CIV stuff post away.

How wrong was I? Got the new update and having only scratched the surface I can almost repost this word for word (which I won't incase I'm completely wrong again).
