The Cities Skylines creators I follow that hazcd been playing it have been giving it a compliment sandwich. I wonder how much of the negative feedback is purely just reaction to the changes in the formula. Ara that recently released was almost a carbon copy of traditional Civ and it received very little fanfare so I'm sure a fresh take might have been needed. I'm still going to jump in when it launches (decided I'm not going to pay what they want for early access) and make my own opinion.

This game will be good in 3 months, better in 6 months and great in a year

Do with that information as you will.
The pattern with the past couple, maybe three, Civ games is they don't really hit their stride until the second major expansion. Given the scope of the changes this time around, I'm holding off for three years until then.

So bought this last week and have put in about 10 hours just on my first playthrough on a small map

I like some of the changes. Others I don't

I kind of dont mind swapping civs through each era. And how you have played in the previous era seems to open up/lock the civs you can change too

However I dont like the fact that all civs change eras together. Takes away form the science boost a bit

Also in the second era I hammered spreading my religion. But when I enter the modern era it is effectively useless, why?

Like that they kept the natural disasters in the game.

Seems to be less wonders to build though?

I like the city expansions methods, but hate that you need to pay gold to turn a settlement/town into a city

Probably need a few play throughs to be able to give a fair rating/score

I think I'll wait until the first expansion. Like VI that's probably when most of the tweaking and QoL improvements will happen.
It's a good game, I'll have a better picture of how good it is once I get through a play through I think

Yeah I'm keen and while some don't like them I like the sounds of the things they've taken from Humankind.
yeah I played Humankind which as a good game, just not on Civs level

Some of the things they have taken from there are pretty good

For instance changing your civ every era is kind of cool. And you cannot change it to just any civ, you need to hit the required parameters. For instance I could change to Russia as I had 3 towns/cities built on tundra

The one thing that I do need to get used to is that settlements only become cities when you have enough gold to upgrade them. Until that point you cannot build improvements on them only pay to build improvements.

There are a lot of random events that pop up where you will have a choice and that will unlock a new event/technology ext

After this playthrough I might do one more and then look at purchasing the guide.

This version does feel like there is a lot more things to manage and a lot more flexibility in advancing through the game. Or at least that is what it seems like
