At the nets today to see the Aussies bat, and there were a few concerns surrounding Michael Clarke. Came out complaining about his wrist, and was told he should see the physio.
Went in for another small hit before coming out after 10 minutes.
Thought it may have been just a niggle, but afterwards saw him wearing a large object on his wrist/hand that looked to be monitoring some sort of injury. It may not be his back that's the problem, hopefully it is only a niggle and precautionary because the last thing our side needs is our no.4 out of action.

In other news, Beer bowled okay in patches (Ponting and Smith dispatched him a bit), with Smith bowling alot of short stuff. Hope he fixes himself up as he can produce quality with the ball if he gets it right.

Bring North back in! He's been batting really well in the nets!*

*Against Mitchell Johnson, who has been bowling really well in the nets**

**Against Marcus North, who has been batting really well in the nets***

Smith is all potential with the ball at this stage as we know, but what I like about him is, as you say, he already bobs up with the occasional magic spell. Could end up a world class all rounder but in the meantime, WAG with the bat.

I posted before his big shield season that he was already a top 6 test class batsman.

Early early call.
Could be anything, but has been better with the ball recently than with the bat.
(average of <35)
I hope he does well anyway.

Clarke had more complaints today. I'm guessing it is just a niggle, or let's hope so.

What I find interesting about Clarke is all the talk around the captaincy. They anointed him ages ago yet it is continualy questioned.

That's because he has yet to show one reason why he deserves to be captain, other than he is a competent batsman. Not a great batsman but a competent one.

And having him captain our T20 side is embarassing so that doesn't help. Neither does declaring yourself fit when you are clearly a liability. Neither does the perception he is more interested in celebrity than winning games of cricket. And continually giving his wicket away on the last over of a session or match doesn't help.

That's why he is questioned, rightly or wrongly.

Might be better than competent with the 10th best all-time Australian average. Often made runs when we have needed them. Only criticism is he has sometimes thrown away his wicket unnecessarily.

while I'm not sure he shoul;d be playing that form of the game I certainly no problems with the way he has captained the T20 side. Looked a step above Ponting's captaincy. My only complaint I ever had was the shocker he had against Sri Lanka not long ago. He did look lost with brain-dead bowlers that night.

That word "perception" is a shocker as it is simply not always real. Perception and reality are often well apart and only the clever one's, it's seems, can tell the difference. That's how newspapers are sold, working and wording the truth, taking things out of context about to create a different perception. They know they'll suck in 75% of the public. The recent Nathan Hauritz story is a classic example. How many fell for that?

I agree with you, but I still find it interesting that they - CA and selectors - anointed him so early. For someone who is hardly in Punter's range of sporting talent (or at least Punter as he was), he appears to wield inordinate power. They must consider that we have so little in terms of talent around that Clarke can be treated like he is as important as Bradman. Maybe they are right!

Wrongly, because most of that is BS.

The majority of sportsmen around the world will declare themselves fit for every match and that goes for captains and vice-captains alike. You see it right here in our own backyard with AFL players needing to lose a limb before they'll even consider sitting on the sidelines.

That perception you've come up with is just that, a perception and one that I'd expect only Woman's Weekly readers to believe. How would anyone know what he's more interested in? He's no fool, of course he's going to fulfil sponsorship commitments and attend shoots and make the most of his image at the moment. I'd do the same thing and you'd be stupid not to.

Suggesting that he's more concerned with his image than winning games for his country is a huge call, your claim that he's merely a competent batsman isn't far behind.
