After one game? He kicked 5 goals the week before and if I'm not mistaken he had kicked goals every week since going forward?

I think it was been clear in our losses that we don't have a defender to peel off and take an intercept mark and use the ball well by foot. Reid was the best in the game at this not long ago, he would have to kick 5 every game to even out the 5 he would save not to mention the goals he would set up.

Forget Boyd! (though he does look good in Pie gear!)

Or, we can look at alternatives down back.

I think it will be - Didak (retired) Jolly (retired) johnson (retired) hudson (retired) Gault Yagmoor paine to go, krak is a good chance too

Have heard that Yagmoor not coming along but thought Gault and Paine are both young developing key position players?
Grundy, Witts the foundation of our ruck but need more than that. Lynch been a good back up ruckman but not offered enough up forward so some room for Jolly or Hudson to stay on if we can't come up with another option??

Paine would probably be a tad stiff if he got delisted as he has kicked some goals in the VFL, However he is a 1 dimensional player who lacks height and mobility, his future will be seriously questioned depending on how many new players we want to bring in.

I would be shocked if gault was on the list next year, just a terrible footballer and has struggled in the VFL the whole year. Will be the first name delisted imo.

It was Reid's worst game for the season last night. But what really threw the forward line out of whack was the presence of Keeffe. He was continually running into the holes that Reid and Cloke needed to be leading into. I think it was a big mistake of Buckley's to play Keeffe in this role. I don't blame Keeffe for this, it was his first game up forward all year. It reminded me of the Cloke to CHF move by MM in the 03' GF all those years ago. We also had Elliott and Maxwell through the forward line. Far too many tall and lead up types. The balance was completely off.

Watching on TV I didn't get to see this so appreciate this post. I don't understand why with three talls we don't have one start goalsquare and two about 30 out on 45 degree angle with each space to lead and avoid allowing key defenders to double team?

Paine - 194cm not tall enough?

Paine - 194cm not tall enough?

There is some debate as to what his actual height is seeing as it has been listed as 191 at times.

Regardless, he doesn't play tall enough to be that 2nd KPF, his marking is good but not elite, his kicking at goal is cloke-like and he has no other position he can play.
Doesn't put on any pressure as well.

What he does have in his favor is that he has kicked a few bags in the VFL and we have no real other KPF coming through.

Whether he stays on the list or not will probably also have a lot to do with didak/krakouer/maxwell/jolly deciding to retire or play on

They are mostly all worthy delists/retires though so I don't get you?

Hudson
Jolly
Krak
Dids
Clarke
Richmond
Gault
Didak
Johnson
Russell

Which one of those 10 deserves to be retained and is a realistic chance to make us better in 2014?

Maxwell and Lynch who offer nothing but an experienced mind, tied up another year and should be vfl listed.

Then you have some players in the current 22 who just aren't up to it or maybe used to expediate our rise in refreshing the list through trades.

Hudson - on rookie list and served his purpose this year as ruck back up. Stays only if able to do same next year
Jolly - would have to take pay cut and be fit enough to warrant also operating as a back up ruck or I've thought should have been tried in Lynch role
Krak - if fit provides x factor
Dids - agree should go but doesn't warrant being gotten rid of twice (listed as Dids and Didak!)
Clarke - trade to GWS for youngster with more skill
Richmond - project player with good height and presumably mobility so keep as rookie
Gault - similar to Richmond?
Russell - added some depth this year but happy to delist / trade

I'd replace Richmond with Paine. Richmond showed enough in his first year from a crossover sport and has good size and mobility.

I'd rather the bloke who kicked 40+ goals took 6+ marks a game and has sticky mitts. I'll let you work out who that is.
Struggling to find the person you referred to. Paine kicked that many goals but didn't take that many marks. Is it someone that is VFL listed?

Most his games in vfl he marked between 5 and 12 .

Rnds 1-4
33. Jackson Paine
Tapping Says: Painey was better this week. He kicked four goals and started to play to his strengths as we know he can. Had a reasonable day, finishing with four goals plus opportunities to kick a few more but he didn't take them.
Statistics: 12 kicks, 7 marks, 7 handballs, 19 possessions

33. Jackson Paine
McRae Says: Painey's GPS results were huge. His work rate was enormous, and was in the elite bracket of AFL work rate. He only kicked the one goal so he didn't get the reward for his work rate. He only had one contested mark which is a strength of game that we didn't see.
Statistics: 9 kicks, 8 marks, 6 handballs, 15 possessions

33. Jackson Paine
Rocca Says: In his own words, a frustrating game. For the past three weeks he's had lots of opportunities to impact the scoreboard and has done so but he could be 6-10 goals further advanced than what he is.
Statistics: 7 kicks, 5 marks, 4 handballs, 11 possessions

33. Jackson Paine
Lockyer Says: He was OK without dominating the game. His work rate is very good. He just needs to take his chances.
Statistics: 9 kicks, 7 marks, 3 handballs, 12 possessions, 2 tackles

Rnds 5 and 6 he kicked 2 and 5 goals, only a shit slacker report no stats on pies site.

Rnd 7.
33. Jackson Paine
McRae Says: Had 16 disposals, took seven marks and kicked 3.3. He is consistently getting five or more shots at goal and making the most of his opportunities is his next challenge. He is not far away from AFL footy.
Statistics: 10 kicks, 7 marks, 6 handballs, 16 possessions, 0 tackles

Hit a poor patch rnds 8,9,10 when being asked to specifically work on defensive game:

33. Jackson Paine
Rocca Says: Painey has consistently played some good games now. He is reading the flight of the ball a whole lot better and is marking the ball in dangerous areas for scoreboard impact.
Statistics: 7 kicks, 4 marks, 4 handballs, 11 possessions, 4 tackles

33. Jackson Paine
Lockyer Says: Just really a tough day as their defence was pretty tight on him. He played on James Sellar (43 senior games).
Statistics: 6 kicks, 2 marks, 3 handballs, 9 possessions, 4 tackles

33. Jackson Paine
Hahn Says: ‘Painey’ had a tough day. He has been working hard on his defensive pressure but he needs to continue to lead and work hard to get to the ball because that’s when he plays his best football. He was playing on Richmond’s Ben Darrou for much of the day.
Statistics: 3 kicks, 3 marks, 3 handballs, 6 possessions, 1 clearance, 1 inside 50, 0 rebound 50s, 1 goal, 0 behinds, 3 tackles

Rnd 12-16
Disposals – Collingwood: Krakouer 24, Oxley 22, Young 21, Wallace 19, Broomhead 18, Keeffe 18, Paine 18

Marks – Collingwood: Young 10, Barden 7, Oxley 7, Paine 7, Broomhead 6, Gault 6, Gray 6, Krakouer 6

33. Jackson Paine
McRae Says: For the second week in a row he hasn’t really had a huge impact on the scoreboard but he had a really good battle with his opponent. He had an impact on the game with 19 disposals and 12 marks, most of those from really working up the ground. He’s important to our ball movement and he’s in good form. He’s certainly not far away from an AFL opportunity if he can impact the scoreboard as well what he’s doing.
Statistics: 16 kicks, 12 marks, 3 handballs, 19 possessions, 0 clearances, 3 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s, 2 tackles

33. Jackson Paine
Rocca Says: Is consistently putting in some really good performances. He is hitting up well and providing good outlets for our defenders to use on the way out of the backline. Only kicked one goal and didn’t impact the scoreboard as he might have but his intensity and ability to lead up was first rate, particularly on a night not suited to key forwards.
Statistics: 12 kicks, 7 marks, 4 handballs, 16 possessions, 0 clearances, 0 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s, 1 tackle

33. Jackson Paine
Hahn Says: It’s a similar sort of trend with ‘Jacko’ where you look at the end of the day and see that he’s got three goals which is not a bad result but he has the ability to be that much better. We’re all waiting to see that great game because his work rate has been huge all year. Our entries inside forward 50 on Sunday did not help him and made his job a bit more difficult.
Statistics: 10 kicks, 4 marks, 2 handballs, 12 possessions, 0 clearances, 2 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s, 1 tackle

rnd 17 kicked 3 goals no stats on website.

rnd 18
33. Jackson Paine
Lockyer Says: Jacko probably had some ups and downs but at the end of the day he still kicked 4.2 and laid five tackles so he probably finished the game stronger than what started it. He worked into the contest.
Statistics: 12 kicks, 8 marks, 7 handballs, 19 possessions, 1 clearance, 3 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50, 5 tackles

rnd 19
Goals - Collingwood: Paine 2
Marks - Collingwood: Allan 8, Broomhead 7, Frost 7, Jolly 6, Paine 6

EF
Goals - Collingwood: Martin 2, Paine 2
No marking stats.

I think the team that does the three tall forward line the best is Sydney and it requires (one of) the hardest working midfield group in the league to push forward and help retain the ball in the forward line. It also requires players to be clever with their leading patterns. That takes time and something I don't think Keeffe was really suited too having only played that role once last year against Brisbane. Not since Dawes have we seen a player get in other players way like Keeffe on the weekend. He did try hard though so can't fault him there. I think defense is his go.

Firstly we need a faster tall defender to be able to play on the Cameron/Franklin type players as we always get carved up by them. We have a good defense however we might need to trade one of our taller players. Best three tall defenders Reid,Keefe and Brown/New draftee

We desperately need a Young tall forward Cloke is in his peak but he is not young anymore. Paine would be a good Dawes type player and we should draft either a Cloke type forward or someone who is fast and agile like franklin (but not franklin himself).

Midfield we need some speed so draft a fast midfield/half forward

Do you think it was good coaching giving Keeffe 2nd ruck/forward role? Do you generally think Bucks made good decisions before and during the most important game for us so far this year?

Hawks do it the best with Rough, Franklin and Hale.

They key is to have all 3 as mobile talls so if the ball hits the deck none are liabilities.
