We all know from watching the game yesterday that we were beaten badly in this area but I found the actual stats on Pro-Stats. It really high-lights the worst part of our game.
Total Clearances
Western Bulldogs = 40
Fremantle = 26

Centre Bounce Clearances
Western Bulldogs = 20
Fremantle = 15

Ball-up Clearances
Western Bulldogs = 8
Fremantle = 8

Throw-in Clearances
Western Bulldogs = 12
Fremantle = 8

I am not sure how accurate these stats really are as the freo Clearances don't seem to add up to 26.

As I've said regularly here, people are quick to target JLo & 211 for this problem, I reckon it is with the crumbers.

Yeah, tend to agree of late. We fumbled a lot of balls coming off the ruckman's hands on Sunday. And to get the clearance you simply have to be clean with it. Even a minor fumble and you lose it.

A good example is Schammer, played his guts out on the weekend, but regularly fumbled the ball on the ground.

On the replay I counted 2 balls plucked out of Carr's reach.

I think the crumbers are a "confidence" lot (am I stating the obvious??). In the last quarter, when we were on a roll, there were a number of times when the taps went directly to one of ours, it was picked up cleanly and the ball was cleared with ease. I am thinking of "High flying Hase" particurlarly. A couple of sharp clearances that were very impressive in the last Q. JC added a bit too.

We desperately need either Hasleby or J. Carr to become a clearance machine like West, Mitchell and Simon Black. It's okay having a slow midfield aslong as your winning the clearances, but when you lack pace and are not getting first use of the footy it's hard to win consistently.

I noticed that several times on the weekend the bulldogs ruckman was hitting Sandilands hand in the ruck contest, instead of attempting to hit the ball. This seemed to be a set play as the bulldog midfielders seemed ready for the ball to come straight down. It's been said a million times, but if the opposition are going to prevent Sandi from tapping it to our midfielders, surely he should be going the big punch?

Excellent ruckwork by Sandilands.

Shame no other dockers player could find the ball and win the clearance.

When will this clearance problem that has plagued the club since 2003 ever end? Please??

Sandi did it twice that I can recall, the trouble was we didn't have anyone on our attacking side of the stoppage.

But surely when they have their huddle in the centre waiting for the tv light to flash Sandi should let them know. There's no point belting it forward if no one's prepared.

Sorry Dominguez, the two punches that I refered to were at boundary throw ins, but you're right, there should be some comunication. the two instances there was not only one Bulldogs player to collect the knock but one to get a handball off him uncontested so either we were being well screened or we had all our players either behind, front or on the defensive side of Sandi and no one running forward!

Isn't this what training is for?? To practice diffrent ruck strategies.

The big smash forward on occassions will have the oppostion guessing provided it has been practiced at training.

Big bird is too one dimensional. I'm not sure he is getting the right advice from the learnered assistant coaches.

Would you like me to forward the phone number of a chap in Collie who may be able to help?, .................. Mr S Michael.

Its definately the set play the crummers work on. J.Lo himself will often end up with more clearances in a match than the so called "engine room" players, which is unacceptable. Its definately our plan, if the opposition is just sharking our taps everytime, its obviously something wrong with our set plays.

Kicking out of defense is another one, thats a set play, yet we stuff it up time and time again, and imo its CC's bad coaching to blame.

When Haselby is fully fit he can be a clearance machine, the problem is atm hes a bit ginger and doesn't want to get jumped on when going for the ball, which is unavoidable with the way the game goes atm.
