Gee I'd like to see this every now and then when we get in trouble up forward.

I mean he is a star in the back half but we have so many backs and he is such good value up forward - quick leader, long kick, great mark, etc.

It got done in 2001 and he has kicked 1 goal from 2002-2004.

Give him a go!

I Like the idea although as Zeke has pointed out it requires other backmen to take the slack. Perhaps with a fully fit list this could be an option. I can picture him doing very well there as a pick hitter.

i think he would be a better option up forward than j cloke....but then again cloke and clement play different roles as defenders and clements role is a lot more important in my opinion

cloke would struggle to take matera, medhurst, those types of players that clement stands up and does well on

but in saying that i would like to see him up forward during the last 6 rounds just to see if he can provide anything substantial down there

!

Agree. Clems a talent.

Should have been tried in the 2003 GF. Inability of our talls to play at both ends of thr ground is a weakness, and MM needs to develop some flexibilty.

Same applies for Wakelin too. He takes a great grab and could be used at times to pinch hit at FF.

While on topic, Rocca and Fraser should spend some time at CHB.

I do not agree. Winning Premierships is about keeping a list/side that can play together and function together!!! The backline needs to be stable and the players need to know each others game plan. This is why our backline was dominante in 02-03, we basicly had 8 guys through the back line for both years. You only see quys like Fletcher playing forward or Treadrey playing back when the side is playing badly or they are out of form. Sorry boys it is not the answer we are looking for.

Just recently, tall Premiership players who can (and have when required) play effectively at either end. Not countiing the examples of versatile talls who were not lucky enough to win a flag.

Lucas
Hird
Fletcher
Barnard
Wellman
White
Leppitsch
Bradshaw
Lynch
McKernan
Carey
Silvagni
Spalding

...off the top of my head, there's plenty more.

We don't have a plan B, other sides do.

Yes but when did these quys change from forward to back while in a premiership year?

Lucas - Moved back after their flag
Hird - Is a freak, not counted
Fletcher - Only in spurts and not in important games
Barnard - More like a wingman
Wellman - Did not play forward in 2000
White - See Fletcher
Leppitsch - See Fletcher
Bradshaw - OK i'll pay him
Lynch - when has he played in the back line in the last 4 - 6 years
McKernan - WHAT
Carey - Only played back when he struggled and not in 96 or 99
Silvagni - See Hird
Spalding - Only played forward in 95

James Clement in the forward line, too late for that, really, Collingwood is not a team that plays for draft picks so we won't be stupid enough to do that.

James Clement did play in the Forward line at times for the Fremantle Dockers, and sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

But...
If Clement did kick 2 goals while in the forward line, the opposition would kick 2 goals, maybe 4. So it doesn't help the team, it only helps the individual.

As for hoggy being coach, dream on!!!

Yes he kicked 27 goals in 1998. Only Waterhouse (with 30) got more. In round 3 and 4 of that year he kicked back to back bags of 5. (The first one in a Western Derby and the second in an away win against Essendon - fairly tough games for the Dockers back then and even now)

Also, sometimes Rocca kicks goals and sometimes he doesn't. So nice theory there.

What I am saying is if we are set defensively down back, why not move him forward to give us a marking, leading option with plenty of pace who can kick goals to give the oppositions defence some headaches.

Ha! Sorry but I forgot you were the one with all the wit and wisdom.

Do your homework.

Been ordering games from Name a Game and got the great 100pt thumping of Freo at Vic Park in 1997 where Bucks killed em and Clement was one of Freos best on a half forward flank

He could but as most people say we cant afford to lose him up back ESPECIALLY this week as the dogs only have forwards his size

I would mind seeing Clement play full back on Lloyd, Lynch, Rawlings as I think he would do a great job freeing up Clokey to play loose by Presti taking the second tall forward, wakes the B.Johnson types

Clement held Lloyd well last year in rd 22 with Presti and Wakes on the bench so i'd would like to see it again
