Just heard that a former Brisbane Recruiting Manager is a monty to join us very soon. Not sure what the pecking order will be, but supposedly has been appointed irrespective of whether Voss does or not. Apparently Vossy insisted that he be part of his entourage! Could be an indication of Voss to be the Boss, maybe? ;)

I like where this is heading, they are going to set carlton up for sustainable long term success regardless of our short term problems. Swann and Icke are real pros, get a development coach, a gun recruiting manager and the future is bright.

I just heard about a very animated conversation going on between Sticks and Swannie. The only thing audible was Sticks saying in a very loud voice: "Ratts". A lot of finger pointing and raised voices were the order of the day. Seems like the kiddies are drawing lines in the sandbox.

Our best guess is that Sticks is pushing Ratts' barrow and Swannie is pushing the McKenna or Voss case. Who will prevail? ;)

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of " Get Rooted" ... "No, You Get Rooted"

Just heard that Sticks is wandering around like King Kong, saying "I told ya so!" (About Voss I guess)
He has got a fight on his hands now against Swannie who I am lead to believe still fancies Bluey.
I reckon that Ratts odds were halved today. Barring a disaster in the next few weeks, he should get the gig!

Sticks seems to have imposed his will. Apparently McKenna and Bond are both being interviewed prior to Wednesday. As soon as that formality is out of the way, then Ratts will get the gig for 3 years. The logic behind this is that with the job secured, then he can concentrate on 2008. The instruction will be to rest anybody slightly injured and anybody moreso to be booked into surgery ending their seasons. Simply play all the fringe kids and duds for the remaining rounds. Round 22 will see us with Teague, McLaren, Raso, Hampson, Flint, Young, Benjamin, Austin etc. lining up in the ones.

We couldn't possibly beat the Dees with half a reserves side, could we?
You can take it to the bank that there will be some strange matchups if we enter r22 on 4 wins.

If Ratts gets the nod earlier than expected, then he is secure and will want the best possible list for 2008 and beyond.

My mail is that #7 could be appointed this week, maybe as early as Wednesday, but probably a Press Conference called on Thursday. ;)

Heard an interesting snippet about Pago Pago. He not only endorsed Ratts for the role, but said that his training drills are some of the best he had seen from a AC in years. He also said that Ratts had enormous respect from the players. He will be the first to congratulate him if appointed.

I heard about a big play by the Bulldogs to get Fev, no matter what it takes. They are currently talking to Sticky Ickey about a first round draft pick plus a quality midfielder. I hear that WC are prepared to lose Hurn, Rosa or Glass plus a pick, but the Dogs should have more currency. Be prepared for a bidding war, particularly if another club enters the fray. We could demand and get 2 first rounders plus a good player or 1 first rounder plus 2 good players.

This all adds up to something like Picks: 1, 3 or 4, 8, 11, 20, 36 plus a Hurn or Hahn or Glass.

Wow, praise from Caesar. Seriously good to see Denis is not bitter towards Ratts and that he rates his coaching.

At the moment, I would rather keep Fev and not get carried away with extra draft picks given our success with them. Hurn, Hahn and Glass ... pick the one that doesn't fit? Hurn and a decent pick = check. Glass and a pick = check in a big way with our defensive deficiencies. Hahn and any pick = no thanks. Fev's stocks have suddenly risen again.

Here are 3 separate scenarios based on the last 4 games and whether Fev will be here next year:

NB: The picks are approximate only!

Win again & Keep Fev: Picks: 3, 19, 35, 51 etc.

No further wins & Keep Fev: Picks: 1, 3, 20, 36, 52 etc.

Win again & Trade Fev: Picks: 3, 8, 19, 35, 51 + Solid Player etc.

No further wins & Trade Fev: Picks: 1, 3, 8, 20, 36 + Solid Player etc.

It will be interesting to which scenario posters prefer! ;)

Lock in A thanks Eddie.

D thanks :o

Narrowed down to 2 final candidates, Bond, McKenna and co got only one short interview, Bretty pulls out of Demons process, has second meeting with selection panel Friday and then Chauffeur driven to King Dicks. Stays for about 2 hours before heading off to MCG to watch Dees and Filth. We understand that the planned board meeting to ratify the unanimous decision of the Selection Panel has been averted because Sticks reported to Dick that they were now solid in their selection of Brett. It would only be going through the motions for formality sake. The board will ratify what ever King Dick decides. It appears certain now. We might even get confirmation before Monday, maybe even today. Ratts of Raheen!

One of those Carlton players who struggled with Pagan in his first season (2003) was the then-skipper Brett Ratten. Pagan's relationship with Ratten was much improved when the latter returned as his assistant — again, at the club's insistence.
"He's keen, he's enthusiastic. He's a Carlton person through and through. I think he'll do well." Ratten's Carlton pedigree was "certainly not going to do any harm".

Just heard of a supposedly secret meeting between the AFL and the management of 3 Melbourne clubs. The speculation is that the AFL recognize that the lists of the 3 clubs in question are among the worst that have ever played the game. They believe that their lists are shallow and as an act of evening up the competition and preventing any further tanking talk, may invoke a directive of additional assistance through the upcoming draft. If this eventuates then it means that Bichmond and the Dees are gunna get a legup of some sort. You can take it to the bank that we will get 3/4 of 7/8 of **** all.

It might be that the final 2 rounds will have no bearing on the final draft order. My tip is if this is agreed to, is that we will still get the first selection, but Melbourne will be slotted into place before our next pick. It could be like this (using cureent ladder order of the remaining clubs):

1: Blues, 2: Tiggies, 3: Dees, 4: Blues, then the Shockers, Puppies, Bummers, Crowbots, Brions, Aints, Swines, MudPies, Skippies, Dawks, Wet Toast, Power, Pussies then Tiggies, Blues, Dees before Round 2. The Feral black and yellow would get 2, 18 & 21. Melbourne would get: 3, 20 & 23.

This way we would get 1, 4, 19 & 22 before the trading period.

The drum is that Priority Picks would then be eliminated forever. I could live with this if it comes about.

How do we get #19 and #22?? I thought our PP came before the first orund only?? Not before the second round as well, or would this be part of the extra draft-assistance??

Sounds like the AFL would have a hard job selling this to the whole competition.

I'd be surprised if all draft picks were locked in now, and didn't take into account final finishing positions for the top 13 clubs, as opposed to just assuring the bottom 3 sides of their respective PP. Really all the latter is doing is avoiding the speculation over the Melb v Carl game in round 22.

On current draft rules I can't see how we won't end up with picks 1 & 3, now a radical meeting to give us picks 1 & 4?!?

Is it just me or would that just be the AFL f*cking us over on draft picks AGAIN?!?!!!

Would you prefer 1,3,20,36 or 1,4,19,22 from this draft?

If we got a post-first round PP as well then that is an upgrade ?

My thinking was that in a shallow draft it would be better to get 3 over 4, even if we were getting 19 over 20 and 22 over 36 where its more likely to be a lottery...

3 or 4 will land you a good prospect, it only becomes a lottery after about 12-15....so 1, 4, 19, 22 would be ideal.

Just heard a bit more on this subject. The other 2 get early pick and pre 2nd round pick. We lose pick 3, get pick 4 but get another with them pre 2nd round. It don't make sense for Richmond, but that is what I'm being told.
