Just heard a bit more on this subject. The other 2 get early pick and pre 2nd round pick. We lose pick 3, get pick 4 but get another with them pre 2nd round. It don't make sense for Richmond, but that is what I'm being told.

So richmond get what they were going to get anyway? (unless they win there last 2 matches)....aren't they on 3 wins?

to me it just sounds like thee AFL are trying to avoid a situation where it is farcical for either side to win a meaningless Rd22 game.

Sounds like Andy D would like to get in sweet with said Clever Dick. Perhaps he's thinking of life after the A.F.L.

Well, 2.5 wins anyway.
If this is true, I can actually see what the AFL are trying to do hear, and it does make sense to me. I look forward to hearing this announced next week prior to round 22.

Look, fair enough to say to the 3 bottom clubs, even if you win a game to the end of the year, you wont lose your priority picks.

Look at the ladder and the bottom 3 are miles away from the rest of the pack. I dont think it hurts the other clubs too much to do that as they are in a position to lose those picks anyway, as it stands.

But to give Richmond and Melbourne ANY benefit over what they will get is just a load of crap. Melbourne already picked up Sylvia and McLean on a previous bounce, who is to say they wont again? I asked the Melbourne board why their 2007 was so crap and the main response was INJURIES!!! If their own fans think it THEY HOW CAN THEY GET ANOTHER PICK???

Richmond, well Richmond, is Richmond. They just stuffed up their 5 top 20 picks, actually no they didnt stuff them up, but they stuffed 1 up and Polo is injured. Surely 3 picks in the top 20 after 5 picks in the top 20 a few years ago?

They CANNOT JUSTIFY pushing us back to cover those 2 teams. Carlton has had poor management, administration, recruiting, coaching (depending on your view) plus the cap penalties. If anything we're the ones coming from a mile behind. if 5 years of crap doesnt warrant the extra attention, WHAT DOES????

Lets think about our cap penalties. We lost 5 picks (???) overall, and we've got Walker, Kennedy and Hampson back through priority picks. HOW ABOUT MAKING GOOD OUR LOSSES BEFORE GIVING ANYONE ELSE A LEG-UP?

Actually Murph was the PP.

We came last. We were always going to get pick 1. Kennedy was the additional pick.
I don't want to start a pissing comp here, but wouldn't the same then be true for Grigg and Hampson.
We were always going to get ppick 17 (Hampson), but it is actually the PP, ppick 19 was the second round pick.

No pissing required. Yes, you would be right. Either way my point is which players we got for the 'extra picks' versus how many players we lost through the 'lost picks'.

Pissing over!

Or else, Andy D and his posse are getting their rump rockets ready in anticipation of giving his most hated club another shafting by awarding our PP to richmond so they can get their leg over as well...

Yep, thats the fear.

What does anyone benefit from looking after Richmond though? 25 years of nothing? Feral supporters? A club with nothing left to cling on to but for one line in their theme song...

YELLOW AND BLACK.....

Take that away and ZILTCH

These claims sound like absolute crap to me....................Brizzy Blue unless you are biting the pillow while Andy D enjoys himself I cant see you knowing in advance about such a radical proposal..........this seems so far outside what would be appropriate practices I dopubt it has any truth at all to it

I wonder if you have bothered to read the original thread or the follow ups? If you had have, you wouldn't be casting aspertions.

You will find the accuracy of the information contained, some of it weeks in advance, other times just days; is spot on. My contacts aren't in the habit of telling me porky pies. The thread is purely a reflection of their information. :p

I think its called the acid test HBF.

Brizzies cred basically comes down to what the AFL does this week.

I'm not doubting him one little bit, as the way he wrote it suggests that he does have some "inside knowledge".

But yes, the AFL would have to announce something this week prior to the Melbourne/Carlton game on Sunday afternoon.

I thought Brizzy said that there had been discussions but the Clubs hadn't agreed?

You could think that discussions like that would make sense, but getting agreement would be hard. Hope they just keep their dirty swiney noses out of it - Richmond can get their pick before the second round as the rule requires but anything above that would be scandalous. Why would they deserve anything additional?

Both clubs last played finals in 2001 and they've had some 9th places since then. What have we had? 11 wins in 3 years in comparison to coming 9th last year?

I agree, I think Brizzy's mail could very well have been correct. HE never said an announcement WOULD be made, but meetings were being held. One or both of two things probably have occured.....a) as Borrisey said, one of the clubs did not agree to the proposal, or b) Vlad doesn't have the gonads to make such an announcement and would rather the heat be on one of the clubs (i.e. us) for the PP system potentially being exploited as opposed to him admitting it is an inherently flawed system.

According to Caro both clubs met with Andy weeks ago to see if there was something that could be done about the situation and were turned down

If that's true, then this "mess" can be laid fairly and squarely at Andy D's feet. Although, he still thinks there is nothing in this tanking talk.

I dont think changing draft laws during the season is realistic, especially near the end of the season when it is clear that 1 or 2 known teams would benefit.

What amazes me was that he was concerned enough about the problem last year to change the PP rule......so he conceded the perceived tanking issue was a problem.

His rule change has proven to be ineffective with more accusations od possibilty of tanking than ever before but he now says there was never a problem with the issue of perceived tanking.

How it was last year is how it should be every year....the PP at the end of the 1st round

Demetriou continues to deny the PP is a problem or that clubs tank:

http://www.afl.com.au/Season2007/News/NewsArticle/tabid/208/Default.aspx?newsId=50199
AFL CHIEF executive Andrew Demetriou remains convinced that Melbourne and Carlton will do all they can to win Sunday's twilight MCG clash.

There is widespread speculation about whether Carlton in particular will "tank" to maximise their draft selections.

"I'm sure they'll be genuinely wanting to win, there's too much at stake for players who are playing for their careers, as are coaches," Demetriou told Southern Cross broadcasting.

It doesn't sound like he was ever going to do anything and as Caro said AFL refused Carlton's apparent request to do anything.

The speculation is that the AFL recognize that the lists of the 3 clubs in question are among the worst that have ever played the game. They believe that their lists are shallow and as an act of evening up the competition and preventing any further tanking talk, may invoke a directive of additional assistance through the upcoming draft. If this eventuates then it means that Bichmond and the Dees are gunna get a legup of some sort. You can take it to the bank that we will get 3/4 of 7/8 of **** all.

It might be that the final 2 rounds will have no bearing on the final draft order. My tip is if this is agreed to, is that we will still get the first selection, but Melbourne will be slotted into place before our next pick. It could be like this (using cureent ladder order of the remaining clubs):

1: Blues, 2: Tiggies, 3: Dees, 4: Blues, then the Shockers, Puppies, Bummers, Crowbots, Brions, Aints, Swines, MudPies, Skippies, Dawks, Wet Toast, Power, Pussies then Tiggies, Blues, Dees before Round 2. The Feral black and yellow would get 2, 18 & 21. Melbourne would get: 3, 20 & 23.

This way we would get 1, 4, 19 & 22 before the trading period.

The drum is that Priority Picks would then be eliminated forever. I could live with this if it comes about.

Watch this space [...................]
