One of the huge Tesla batteries in Geelong caught fire yesterday, spewing toxic crap

This "biggest battery" thing is just another load of bullshit.
The photo's clearly show that its a modular thing.
If you use more "D" Cells you get a bigger battery, and this is just the same concept scaled up. There is no special skill involved in building a bigger one, its just a matter of more land and more batteries. If its all on one site, or scattered on different sites it makes no difference.
( I still remember being pissed off when i cut open one of the big square dolphin torch batteries and simply found 4 "D-Cells inside").

At least they seem to have designed it well, so that if one goes up in flames all those around it don't.

Imagine if that happened to the powerwall in your loungeroom.

If we try and cool them down it just prolongs the process," the CFA's Assistant Chief Fire Officer Ian Beswicke said.

"But we could be here anywhere from 8 to 24 hours while we wait for it to burn down."

Vegan's were on the bandwagon well before they linked it to global warming, which they are now doing to try to justify their religeon.
When Vegans get picky because the vegetable food they are eating "may contain traces of animal products " its a religion.
Hello!!!! you aren't allergic to the stuff, your general selection of those foods makes your point adequately do you really need to worry about "traces".

Well yes, Veganism is generally an ideological position. So 'traces of animal products' would be a concern where they come from harming animals, given it's kind of the point.

Yeah but second hand leather is ok, cos fashion.
Worrying about traces that may not exist is as crazy as worrying about halal, or kosher.

Depends on the vegan. The kinds worrying about maybe possibly traces of animal products aren't usually the second-hand leather wearing kind of vegans.

It's an ideological position, they're free to take issue with animal products being used in the production of fruit and vegetables, just as producers are free to ignore them and continue using said products.

There is certainly a growing number of products that have found viable alternatives for animal products though, which suggests there's a large enough market of people buying on that basis.

It gets a bit crazy, when they won't buy chips from the fish n chip shop. The shop uses vegetable oil, but its not certified vegan. Or there may be cross contamination from the Flake. Seriously it makes no difference, not even ideologically.
Ideologically you could say, "i refuse to go to chip shops that also profit from selling fish " . But having to install a separate cooker to stop potential contamination is just ridiculous. That's the kind of nonsense we see with Halal and Kosher food, and that's what Vegans are starting to do.

Greenpeace are awake to big corporations "buying" green credentials to declare themselves green, often without changing anything to do with the amount of energy they use.

If you buy normal electricity from the grid in Victoria it is associated with 1.13Kg of CO2 per KWh. That's pretty much the emission from a Coal Station.
That means that the 20% plus of renewable electricity has been sold , via certificates or green energy ( the energy company holds the certificate ).

If you are selling your home solar power back into the grid, you are not "officially" helping the environment, the corporation that buys the green energy is.
Ironically they can claim that they are using solar electricity to light up their corporate building at night.

Wait. So you're upset that private citizens are making choices to spend or not spend their money however they so please?

Not upset.
Stating that i think they are stupid and or devoutly following a cult or fashion movement.
I don't like that some of them are militant and try to inflict their bullshit cult on others.

There's certainly some vegans that go OTT, but veganism is probably a more understandable ideological position than most / all religions.

So long as they're not bothering people, if they don't want to spend money on chips cooked in a deep fryer with fish, that's their call to make, and their questions to ask.

A shabby politically motivated campaign has been claiming climate collapse for 50 years. Not one forecast of natural ecosystems collapse has occurred. All are based on computer model scenarios that are manipulated. We see the same skies & oceans as our parents & grandparents.

Patrick had a front-row seat as he organised the environmental movement's first ever major demonstration, but now he has some real problems with the direction it's heading in.
