I can't see us getting Fev but I'm sticking by the thought that we'll sign Young today, if ever.

COLLINGWOOD is reported to be attempting to sign Hawthorn unrestricted free agent Clinton Young after sending Sharrod Wellingham to West Coast for pick 17 on the second day of the Gillette AFL Trade Period.

The Age reports Young, 26, toured the Magpies' headquarters on Monday after the Pies gave up on trying to package Wellingham with Chris Dawes in a super deal for Melbourne's fourth overall selection.

The move satisfies Wellingham's desire to move back to his home state after requesting a trade to the Eagles last week and leaves the Pies with picks 17 and 18 at November's NAB AFL Draft.

Confirms interest at least. I just can't work the AFL site out, it says "unrestricted" in the story but "restricted" in the photo caption. It's almost like they don't even know what he is.

Well it has only been us and Brisbane that have been linked to Young at this point, so it does have some sort of merit as a rumour. They definitely have more money to throw at him than us, too. But you're right... rumours are rumours. If it was reported that he'd flown to Brisbane to meet with them it might be different.

I guess if he's going to leave Hawthorn it will come down to whether he's chasing a genuine attempt at winning another flag (and a little bit of extra coin) or if he's solely after more money from someone like Brisbane.

Would REALLY REALLY like Clinton Young. Would be the PERFECT recruit to help alleviate the backline exit woes.

Have always really rated him as a player. I know my Dad would be rapt. He's always been a big fan too. Especially good is that he's Unrestructed. So we don't have to give anyrthing to get him.

People may bang on about his slip up in the 2012 grand final, but if they extended their history books, they would also remember that he was close to best on, if not the best player on the field up until half time in the Hawks win in 2008.

Im with you. I've always been a massive fan, and it was evident that he played a key role for Hawthorn.

There is no merit in what they discussed because a trade is not required. They specifically discussed a trade. Everyone is aware that Brisbane have an eye on him. If they were discussing him potentially going to Brisbane via FA, then yeah, I'd agree with you.

They seem to think on the Hawthorn board that Young to Collingwood is a done deal to be announced today or tomorrow.He would be a good signing for us and as 1 Hawks poster at least he turns the ball over 60 mtrs downfield and he can bang them through from 50mtrs on the run.All in all a good get if it happens and a very good start to trading and draft from Buckley and the team.

True, but he was still very good in a winning side.

Anyways, his value on our team would be greater than on yours, given the fact we dont have a guy who can boom a ball 65 metres.

You guys have several that are probably better players, but he will fill a big hole for us.

A source close to Clinton tells me he has been forced out of Hawthorn, really wanted to stay there. Will 100% be signing on with Collingwood, not sure when it'll be announced but confident today.

Most likely answered your own question there, really wanted to stay but due to the cap and others coming through there were no certainties.

I heard they were trying to pay him less on his next contract,hence why he is leaving they also said he may not be the last to leave from Hawthorn I also read this on their board.
