Come on guys, let's all be supportive to our captains, no matter where they are from. We don't want to go along the same route the Brisbane Lions have done with their lack of respect for Fitzroy. Why do you think I am so proud of supporting this great club? The way they treat the history of South Melbourne, (our Victorian heritage is alive as ever, despite some opposition club supporting morons would like to say, South Melbourne isn't dead), it's been first class. I'm sure that both Adam Goodes and Jarrad McVeigh will do a great job and I am sure that nobody would be holding grudges if, McVeigh is holding that premiership cup this year either.

And its thanks to Richard Colless who personally embraced the South Melbourne heratige, not like a couple of flogs like Wienet who wanted to change the culture to two blues. It will be a sad day when he hands over the chairmanship.

Why would it be a sad day, I can't see why the new 'administration' wouldn't embrace the 'South Melbourne' heritage like Richard Colless has?

The South Melbourne history will NEVER be forgotten in any case, the fans won't let any administration to do forget our past.

I cannot see anybody in the near future, undoing all the great work that Richard Colless has put in, I think you could be paranoid this Bedford. ;)

It can, but it doesn't necassarily mean it will happen though.

But if someone like Brett Kirk became president or chairman of the Swans, who personifies the 'bloods' spirit more than anybody I have known in my time of supporting the club down the track or maybe after Richard Colless, would you begrudge that move, even though he's from NSW?

And Hodge will be telling him to shut up.

no he wont Stat, and their will be other 'leaders' playing that will be doing the same.. nothing will change except who toss's the coin and leads them out ...and also media work at this level. An 'official' leadership group is pointless too IMO, it just happens naturally at every club.

good post Wolfie, guess Im a bit sensitive about us Melbourne based South supporters slowly becoming irrelevant except for our membership fees and bums on seats in Melbourne. I only need a sniff of NSW's bias (totally normal if you from NSW) to fire me up and that will never change, and I will never fully get over the fact my club was torn away.. Sorry guys I cant help it but I try. Go Bloods.

I get what you mean but, to be fair, those are the only reasons us Sydney members are relevant as well. Just like any supporter group really.

I dont believe that should be the case, much more to a football club than that... Sure you have to keep the money coming in I understand that.

an example would be naming a NSW's man as captain just to cater for the NSW's members and get more support esp with GWS now coming into the comp.. Im not saying this is the case but that sentiment is what fired me up at the start. Realistically its smart business.

IF the Swans ever forget the South Melbourne heritage mate, I would be the 1st one to bitch about it, since I actually came from the suburb South Melbourne.

Saying "Go Bloods" and teaching the younger generation that and teaching the younger generation about our history, our history would always remain alive.

Richard Colless has made sure of that with his work and I can't see why it wouldn't continue.
