Last year all of our core group played almost every game and played well, this allowed our second tier players to stand taller and get easier ball.

With losing Deledio, Rance, Maric for basically the first 7 games has put a lot more pressure on the second tier and third tier to perform, and they have discovered it isn't easy and their not ready to take on the extra responsibility.

I believe that when we can get our spine on the field and firing there will be a massive improvement from the group.

We have the depth to cover 3 second to third tier players but take away 3 of your best and were going to struggle.

Watch out for guys like Conca, Ellis and Vlastuin to fire after the break when they don't have anyone paying them as much attention.

I'd suggest missing Deledio(our best run and carry player) and Rance(our best rebounding defender) for 4 weeks might have had something to do with the lack of run and carry for the first 6 weeks. Amazing when they returned in round 7 that we started to run and carry a lot more than we had.

using excuses is something the club is getting good at. They'd like you RT.

I was making the point that our possessions are short.
We average 15.2m gained per possession, Port average 15.89m gained per possession. Not that short.

So you don't think missing our best run and carry player and best rebounding defender for 4 weeks are reasons for us performing poorly, yet you think us letting Matty White go is a reason for us performing poorly. Right got it.

No I dont.... They are not the reason. But Matty White was an ingredient in why we played well when he was finally included into the side last season.

Its disappointing hearing excuses about having 3 injuries from our senior coach after he has been at the club for 5 years....

Would you agree that Deledio Rance & Maric were key ingredients into why the club made finals last year?
and
Would you also suggest those missing ingredients were partly to blame for us not performing as well to start this year?

Of course... not sure your point.

No its the way we are playing.... we arent settled.... we arent playing well.... we have a crap style ..... and we dont have a system to bring up players to fill roles. We use excuses.....

Why are we playing the way we've been playing? Could it be that we've missed our best run and carry midfielder, best rebounding defender and genuine around the ground big man aggression through injury? I bet it is, but lets not admit that now because it won't allow you to use injuries as a valid reason for us performing below our best.

The injuries definitely haven't helped but our inability to cope or for others to take it upon themselves has been extremely disappointing.
I'm fine for there to be a drop in quality and results when our best are out.
But I expect us to play to the game style regardless. And effort is not negotiable.
I'm hoping that a bunch of players have just been out of form.
If not that, then the player's review after Hawthorn was the catalyst for last week's improvement.
Otherwise, our inability to play half decent football is an indictment on the entire football club.
Collingwood had 8 players with less than 25 games against Carltank. They played their game style.
We need to be able to do the same.

I love the posters who keep insisting that Hardwick has us playing a shit brand of footy.
Like it's nothing to do with the opposition or own players muddled minds.
Then when inevitably we start taking more risks as we started to last week, well if that keeps up then they will say "ah yes see. I was right! Hardwick has woken up!"
Funny stuff.

Of course you don't

yes they were an ingrediant in why we were good... as was Matty White .... Its a TEAM game.

So you are saying we have no hope if we lose 3 players to injury?? that the excuse?? do we hear other coaches complain about injuries? Did Collingwood complain when they were forced to play 8 kids under 25 games??

Why dont we have back up players that can fill the role?? Your point above is an indictment ... that because we are 3 men short our season falls apart. We've had 5 off season to build this club yet we lose 3 players and we are done??? come on man.

The sooner we stop looking for excuses the better... I respect you standing up and beating the clubs drum but you know as well as I know if we continue to make excuses then we will go no where.

....... and yes I am looking forward to when Maric comes back so we can finally rid our selves of Hampson. Playing a man short is a big reason why we are 2-5. Other sides can carry a ruck like Hampson but we definately cant.

So there we go, you're allowed to fire off any number of excuses/reasons as to why we're 2-5 but I can't use the fact that we have had 3 of our best players missing for most of the season so far.

What you people are not realising is port have had a freak run with no injuries, even the reserves SANFL side are kicking ass due to the lack of injuries.

Fitness isn't just working harder. There's so much more to it than that which is why sports scientists are so important otherwise we could just go and get an army PTI. I suspect our sides fitness is pretty good and that it's more a mindset issue. No fitness issues against the cats last week and we finished a
To stronger than them. Rance and lids come in and the boys lift. Same thing happens at suburban footy. Some blokes just make the others around them walk taller. As dimma keeps saying. Take 3 of the best 6 out and it will make a difference.

Port are really well coached, have a renowned fitness guru but they've had only one injury of note in monfries. I think what this season has shown os we are still short a couple of quality players. Lids goes out and cotch is half the player he is with him in the team. Now the compromised drafts are over we need to load up more on high risk high reward kids. Port allowed Pearce, Chaplin to go but kids have filled the breach and are exciting. We've got the core of a team. Just need the icing now.

Yes you are right that they were definitely a key ingredient to us making the final but in all fairness to Nut they all played in that inaugural depressing day where we were ejected out of the finals by the 9th team
Seriously guys Ive stated three times finishing 5th to 13th is based on luck of injuries and as stated by many posters we had a great run last year
With the RFC v CFC we were both pretty lucky with injuries but we were slightly worse off on EF day. So the game became a 50-50 contest. We came off 2nd best on the day yes to injuries. Reece Conca early and we played an unfit Newman returning from injury and White:eek: with Foley I don't know why he missed we're both out
The old fifth to thirteenth rule favoured the CFC on the day bc we didn't field our best team but in all fairness Duigan played his best game of footy for the CFC which was inexcusable
Lets not put too much emphasis on finals last year unless we can consistently back it up and prove we are genuine contenders:thumbsu:
