Hi there,

Have just downlaoded the game but cant play it until later as I am at Uni.
These are my ideas that we need in an AFL manager game.

* Finding sponsors
* Ground development
* Training Facilities
* Including all the Victorian Country and Metro footy teams so you are not limited to the AFL.

What do you think of these ideas?

look forward to playing your game!

No

No

Maybe- has something to do with Coaching.

Impossible to to.

Id have

Realistic player ratings and salaries.

Realistic match engine.

Detailed statistics.

Detailed tactical options- reflected in results.

Realistic trade/draft system.

Possibly the option to control training sessions.

Media and Board interaction.

Gotta get them right before worrying about things like sponsers and financial stuff.

Great game so far mate.

Wishlist-

Match Game-

Change the layout a bit (make the opposing players icons a bit clearer and ]make it easier to see whats going on.
Add a speed up function (this would probably mean you dont see the game screen for that period, just the commentary.
Lots of Match Day Tactics (ie moving players, having a FF one out etc).

Managment-

Have a media section/ news desk in the main Coaches screen (like in CM) containg things like fans being unhappy or players rumoured to be traded etc.

Have a club board- rating your performance as coach. Setting you pre-season goals. Sacking you if you play ******** etc.

Training- set individual training to improve on different players skills (ie reduced schedule for injured players).

Player contracts- able to negotiate contracts throughout the season (ie performance based) and able to pay players under the table (outside the salary cap) with possible repercussions down the track would be awsome.

Scouts- having player scouts scouting young players in the TAC cup and such throughout the year and on draft camp.

Other Leagues- ability to coach VFL, WAFL, SANFL, TAC (maybe APS) and such and then being offered AFL positions, also access to alot of players stats, and possible drafting from State Leagues.

Tribunal- options like, ability to hire gun QC's and fly players to Melbourne to appeal sentances.

Marketing and Finances- optional being able to manage stuff such as merchandising and season memberships, would be great (ie if your a poor team like Bulldogs get only 92.5% of salary cap).

Stadium Managment and expansion- ie making Subiaco massive.
Off Season-

Able to scout players mid season, offer them contracts and then get them over during trade week (could have clubs getting angry at this ie Lions at Pies for going for Brown).
Have proper trading week, where you go and meet from club to club offereing your trades.
Realistic trades.
Players wishing to leave due to: unhappy with coach, wanting more money, wanting more oppourtunity, want to return home etc.
When you trade a player you must sign a new contract with them (or the club pays like 25% of their salary).

Drafting- as said before able to scout players view their seasons how their going, strengths, weaknesses, draft camp results (ie beep test, vertical leap) and maybe what teams they grew up supporting, favoured clubs/coaches.

National Draft, Rookie-Draft and Pre Season Drafts.

Pre Season Training.

I know they're a bit far fetched but just thgouht I'd give you some ideas on what people would like in thier ideal management game. Liking the game so far and good luck to you. I'll be following with anticipation :) .

Just need some info guys, a lot here I know but i need to get it right.

1.What is the current salary cap?
2.What happens if a team trades away a future first round pick, but in that year they end up having two first round picks. Which one gets traded?
3.If a player gets re-signed, when can they be traded?
4.What happens to a players contract if they get dropped (including salary cap)?
5.What happens to a players existing contract if they given an extension? Does the current one get dropped and the new one takes over, or does the new contract only come into effect when the other one expires?
6.What is the minimum salary of a player/rookie?
7.Can someone explain when you are eligable for the veteran list?
8.can someone explain the following by otis_david
When you trade a player you must sign a new contract with them (or the club pays like 25% of their salary)?

Thanks in advance

1. 7.5 mil??

2. I think you trade the lower one.

3. You can trade a player whenever I think.

4. Nothing if they are dropped to the 2's (ie VFL).

5. Wait till the old one experies, new one starts??

6. Pretty sure its 30,000

7. Unsure sorry maybe over 30's.

8. I mean say a guy is on 200,000 over 2 years and in the first year of his contract, when you trade them, the new team has to negotiate a new contract (ie 300,000 over 2 years) and an option of the old team paying some of his wages (like Wowoedin, Melbourne pay 25% of his contraact I think).

Cheers otis_david

For point 4 I ment released at the end of the year, when they still have a contract with the team.

Hey, I tried downloading that Windows thing, but I still get the same error when I press on new game.

Any help?

SirBloodyIdiot

What Operating system are you using?
Are you running it off a CD drive?
Can you run Footy Fanatic?

XP.

Don't think so, just downloaded it and unzipped it to my desktop.

Yes.

new version uploaded to http://www.devimg.net/?View=543.

Can change lineup during game and change speed while viewing, other options also added.

Looking into salary, and post season activities now. I will leave the match engine as is for now until this is completed.

SirBloodyIdiot
make sure you maintain the correct directory structure when unzipping
CoachesBoxFolder\CoachesBox.exe
CoachesBoxFolder\Data\CoachesBox.mdb

This is ********ing me off.

It wouldn't be because I use WinRar would it?

ive downloaded the new update and im up to round 5
and i get this error
access violation at address 00463c74 in module 'coaches box' read address 2d2d2d09

Leafie
Could i get some more info?

Which screen do you get the access violation in?
Are you watching or simulating the games?
Do you get the access violation after restarting Coaches Box?

SirBloodyIdiot
The only time i can get the error you described is when I don't have the correct directory structure as described in a previous post. Ensure all files are not read only.

I like the update mate. Great job! Could you add a column for total possessions on the team lists as that would be handy? Look forward to the salary and post season activities being updated but will you be having a contract for us coaches? Will we be able to apply for other jobs or get the sack?

Some good ideas caveman, sort of like a coaches career mode. Right now just trying to get the basics of an AFL game down salary/trades/drafts ect but keep the ideas coming.

I still have a lot of work I want to complete on the match engine (tactics) but Ideas I am considering to add
*Pre-season training (not sure on during season training)
*Player moods (want money, hate coach, miss family ect)
*Options on start of game including allowing trades during the year
*Media news desk section
*Club finances, stadium management
*Create own leagues and/or random league
*Add other leagues where teams can be coached, players can be drafted

I've almost completed the basics for salaries, national draft, pre-season draft so hopefully I will be creating a new release early next week.

If anyone has any ideas and/or info on how a players salary changes throughout their career would be great (this info is hard to find). I have info on starting salaries after coming through the draft, but not how they change from there.

If you include these ideas you will have the best AFL manager game by far. :)

I think if you can add your own leagues, that would be huge!

sounds like you have a lot of top ideas there mate
similar to Championship Manager which is a fantastic soccer game, and i know a lot of people (including myself) have wanted an AFL game like champ man for a long time.. adding player moods and the ability to take up new jobs would be great, adds more depth than the basic, trade/draft, pick your team, play the game

They wre read only, but it didn't fix the problem.

How do you mean directory structure?

I don't understand that bit.

I agree with Franky you need a potential improvement column or you could adopt 2 colums whereby you have a current ability and potential ability so if you use the right traing and stuff he can reach his potential, also in training you should be able to train them a new position. And if you want i can do a west coast player list as i know the players quite well, im sure you could get others to do their own team. BTW great game, cant wait untill its finished!
