I saw Connolly at the airport the other day on his way to see Melb officials and he was grinning his head off.I hope he doesnt coach Melb , they deserve better than him.

Why the bloody hell didn't you tackle him and stop him from meeting the Dees officials? Just for that I hope Essendon lose this week lol. :p

My jungle drums tell me otherwise.

I have no doubt you guys will get Connolly.

It is correct that Sheeds is out of the running - and he has been told. In fact he never had a chance - just ask the psychologist put on the panel to eliminate him.

But if anyone thinks that Lyon would let someone other than his best buddy get the job they are seriously mistaken.

Do you guys really think that the short list even contained the best 5 men available?

The entire process has been a sham - and the appointment of another Connolly mate, Schwabby (dont get me started on him) to sit in on the simulations is further confirmation.

Anyway, if it all goes pear shaped, you know which ex club champion to blame. Good luck...

I seriously doubt that Garry Lyon would show any sort of favouritism towards anyone of those 5 men. He played and captained the Melbourne Footy Club and I have no doubt in my mind he will help find the best candidate to coach the Demons.

Oh and by the way GTFO!!!!!!!!

Great news IMO, new blood is the way to go.
It's all lining up really, 98, we get a new untried coach, absolutely gun it, make the PF. 2008, new untried coach, win the Grand Final, simple as that.

Conflicting stories, bee dee, no doubt the truth will come out very shortly.
Peter Schwab as footy manager, I thought he might be in for a job like that after coming on to the panel, he is much maligned but he might go alright, you don't get a gig as an AFL coach if you have no idea about footy.
 
There would have to be a scoop on The Footy Show about it. Gary will just down play it though and Hutchy will do the opposite.
 
Bailey has really come into the running in the past week or so, I'm not against the appointment at all, hes got the runs on the board.

Still would rather Sheeds though.

On channel 10 in Adelaide they said that the Demons board will know by today who will coach Melbourne and said they'll announce it publicly tomorrow.

The reporter also said that Dean Bailey is currently be the front runner for the job out of Hardwick, Sheedy, and Conolly. They also said that u can write Mark Riley's name off, as he has no chance of coaching Melb next year.

Jee i hope it isn't Dean.
 
Merged the two threads. It was too much work opening up both of them, knowing i could be opening up just one. Hope you all agree...

They are saying Bailey in Adelaide.

Same channel is saying Connolly in Perth.

Its Sheedy here in Melbourne.

Lets hold off, wait for the announcement, if it does come tomorrow, then you can write off all bar Connolly and Riley, which suggests Cuddles has it in the bag if that is the case.

Just think, at this very point in time, we've already got a coach but we don't know who it is...Quite interesting

It's quite weird knowing that one of the five has been told he's the coach of the MFC and is probably celebrating somewhere in the country tonight. I'd love to know who that is by tomorrow, but could see them dragging it out a bit longer. Just to make the media squirm.

IMO we'll do our best to keep this under wraps, for example if it was Sheedy I wouldn't want him not focusing on his current job at hand (WCE at Subi) with this on his mind.
Kudos to the club for doing this early though, look at the Saints last year they left it way too late.

He'll wake up tomorrow and wonder what he got himself into. Interesting that they got them to do a match sim on the first Bulldogs game and not, say, the Richmond debacle.

Yeah provided we come out of this with a coach who isn't a flatout dud, I think we've all gotta be pretty happy with what the club has done.
Cleared out Danners as early as possible knowing the season was gone, and straight away got into recruiting, so the coach will be picked before finals. Can't ask for much more out of a messy situation I don't think.
 
After 25 minutes of drug talk on the Footy Show we got 5 seconds about the Melbourne coaching job with Hutchy saying Dean Bailey from Chris Connolly. It's good to hear that Dean is right up there but bad that Chris is snapping at his heals. Slightly dissapointed with no Sheedy but I'd be happy with Hardwick or Bailey.
