I still want Chris Connoly as coach.
Guess it's all decided by board by now.Just have to wait for announcement.

They were right when they said that there is a drug problem in society.

It was a joking way of saying "no ****ing way do we want Connolly" and by "we" I mean the majority of this board but yes, you are entitled to your opinion.

Relax Obbie, care to explain to us why you favour Chris Connolly? Like his work at freo, or want a favourite son back at the club.
Actually Master Bate I'm very relaxed and thanks for your comments.

I don't appreciate poorly disguised under the belt sledges by other posters. We are after all Melbourne supporters. When all is said and done the board has met and a coach has most likely been decided upon.
I think quite rightly that I am entitled to my opinion and I am very very open to robust intelligent discussion.I would like to see much more intelligent discussion on our board instead of little swipes by other posters.
I enjoy very much arguing points in a constructive, polite, mature fashion where differences are respected. No need to sledge or be smart by anyone . Save that for Bay 13.
As for Connoly I don't know much more about him than I suspect you do so I won't bore you. Bailey don't know much about. Hardwick I liked as a player and I think we all know Melbourne needs to re-discover some real mongrel.
Sheedy enough said. Riley's a Daniher product so no thank you.
Whoever is coach must do better than Daniher's 10 years which unfortunately are the best 10 years I've seen following the Dees since I started in the 70's.
You keep up your good posts Master Bate. I read your posts.

Cheers
Obbie

I'm just having some fun mate. I know there is no malice in my comments or yours.
I must admit I am yet to read a good constructive post listing in point form all the reasons why Connolly is such a poor choice to be our coach.
Culture at Freo would be No.1.
Or in fact why Bailey is such a good choice?
Who ever is the coach must simply win games. Just win games.
Go Dees

Or in fact why Bailey is such a good choice?

  • New blood in the coaching circuit could be good for us.
  • Port Adelaide fans hold him in high regard.
  • He is obviously presenting very well to the coaching panel.
  • He's untested so we could see a great deal of new strategies used.
  • Perhaps he can bring some secrets from Choco Williams and put them into play at Demonland.
  • Looks like the kinda guy that doesn't take crappy performances, has sort of a Junk Yard Dog look about him to me.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

Dean Bailley has been outstanding for Port Adelaide. He was our backline coach and did a great job there with players like Bishop, Montgomery, Paxman/Wakelin. Also helped Chad Cornes transition to CHB in our premiership year.
This year he has become our midfield coach, an area where we were absolutley shot 18 months ago, and turned it all around.

Im certain he will be a successful senior coach, but im not sure that Connolly would be a great influence.

Another Essendon hack coming our way!!

Re: Sheedy out of the running?

The game may have moved past Sheedy, but the MFC certainly hasn't.

I know short-term solutions are frowned upon, but Sheedy would be an excellent short-term fix for us, as discussed on numerous posts. Give him 3 years to develop youth and build us a platform to go forward - then replace him with a smart young thing who is up to speed with all that is new and groovy when it comes to coaching.

And didn't we go down that track when we appointed Daniher 10 years ago, only to end up pretty much in the same shape (possibly worse) as we were back in '96?
I don't think you appoint someone just because of possible membership/sponsor improvements in the short term.

If Sheedy was made coach and did some of the things he did at Essendon over the last few years including:
  • Recruiting the likes of Heffernan, Campo, Cole, Matthew Allan etc
  • Making strange matchday moves like Lucas playing fullback
  • Picking favorite players regardless of skill level and keeping them around for an eternity like Mark Bolton & Aaron Henneman.
Then in 2 or 3 years when Sheedy is ready to call it quits we would be in even worse shape than we are now.

And it seems to me you're suggesting the appointment of Daniher was a mistake?

In 10 years he made what 6 finals series including a grand final? No he didn't get the job done and deliver us a premiership, and I was one of the people who for the last 3 years has been calling for change but to suggest his appointment was a mistake seems a bit ridiculous.
