It seems to me that the Cats are the best front runners in the competition. Attack them hard and they will crumble (Kangaroos), but give them an inch and they’ll tear you apart (Richmond, Carlton. Fremantle are the type of team whose workrate and midfield pace is suspect, though i dont think the same could be said of the Eagles.
Player for player Geelong are good enough to be serious premiership contenders. I would say that irrespective of the next 8 days. But until they stand up to the intensity of an occassion where a quality team comes hard at them, i cant help but see them making up the numbers in September. They’ll get other chances through the year, but this is a perfect opportunity to show the world that the handbag tag is a thing of the past. If they are as tough as the other teams then there is no doubt they can go all the way.
I also sense that they play better at the Dome than down at Geelong. Dont know if statistics support my theory.

Chris, you’re assessment is accurate - they are great front runners. North Melbourne worked them out and shut them down very well, which the Eagles will try to do on Sunday. Coaching staffs at other clubs rate them very, very highly, though. Don’t have the Telsra Dome stats in front of me, but will try to get them in the next hour or so.

Did the Kangaroos really work us out though, or was it just a case of us not showing them enough respect and getting burnt by it? Guess we'll find out later in the year in the return match at the dome.

North are doing what they do against everyone and winning, its not just us that have been "worked out". And we are more successful at Skilled then at TD over the past few years. But front runners? Please, look over 04 and 05 and so far in 06. Our victories are based around numbers and pressure on their ball carriers.

And why is someone in Adelaide commenting on football anyway?

To answer your question, our team is rated for a few reasons. 1. We tackle hard and alot of the time use the ball effectively. 2. we run hard and have players capable of breaking the lines. 3. last year was an exception, our victories this year have been similar to the ones in 04 and 05 and were based on the qualities we used then with a slightly different game plan.

No...you wont say "I told you so"....the majority of us just deal with facts and reality rather than wild dreams.

I never learnt my lesson as a kid. Raised hopes and shattered dreams just built up the eagerness even more... I'm like a drug addict, craving the day when Geelong can win the flag.
