Evans said that he had spoken with Rocket during the season and Rocket asked to be told at the point when any decision had been made (renew or not renew).
Board ticked off the decision to look for a new coach on Monday.
Rocket was told Monday, in person, by Evans. As previously agreed.

Move along, nothing to see here.

PS. No easy way to move on from players and coaches who want to stay. Getting it done at the point it becomes official is a reasonable way to do it since it allows the club to actively look for a new coach. If Rocket was gone but not told, club could not in good faith start looking for a new coach.

question - given Rocket's success in turning around our culture, and given that this was imo his primary objective, what are the odds of this anyways being the plan? that is, bring in Rocket to sort our shit out, then replace him with X when new coach and club are ready? maybe we've had our new coach locked in, in principle, for some time?

Did Eade really change the culture ????

I promise you 3 weeks would have made no difference to who coaches next year and who knows, 3 decent performances may have changed some minds re extending Eade

Pardon the intrusion but IMO the man for the job is Simon Lloyd the current Cats director of coaching, has a similar pedigree to Chris Fagan. The bio below is a few years old but he has experience in some diverse roles, he is also now a level 4 coach.

Thank you for the application Mrs. Lloyd.

Maybe skavs mail was correct? Eade might have been told Monday night that he would not be coach next year but the club wanted him to stay on as director of coaching or head of football or something. Rocket slept on it and decieded he wanted to return to Melbourne or retire?

You're joking right?

Since Eade took over we haven't had any players on the front page of the Courier Mail doing a line of ******* cocaine.
And we haven't got any players fidgety about re-signing
May Lynch and Swallow all re-inked under Rocket

Is it right I heard norf say they wouldn't stand in scotts way, if true he would surely already have the swimmers packed in the bag.
I would be looking at Ratten if Bomber is off the market.

I wouldn't assume that everyone would want this job - could be a poisoned chalice, particularly for a new coach. The successful applicant would have to relocate family to the GC and chances are you'll most likely be sacked and probably never get another crack at it.

Gee you sound like a fun bloke.

So if you might fail it's not worth trying? Great outlook on life.

Re: getting the sack that's pretty much the same situation that every prospective coach faces when joining a club where someone has been given the axe for underperforming?

Biggest point of difference is that our chairman has a public profile and makes comments that most would keep to themselves... If that's a deal breaker for anyone, they don't really want to be a coach. Clarko had to deal with Kennett.

What I'm saying is if you're sought after applicant you might want to wait for a better opportunity. As a first time coach you generally only get one crack at it. I think the job is more appealing for a proven coach or a first timer who's not likely to get a crack at another job.

But there aren't ever any perfect openings. Clubs sack coaches for a reason unless a horrible event such as Phil Walsh's death happens and a top club like Adelaide becomes available your going to have to take a risk. I know i have a bias but i think coaching GC would be one of the best coaching jobs. Young list, not held back by too much history, great spine, quick players and lack of media pressure you might find a Collingwood.

The only way this decision will be validated is if Suns play finals next year
Possibly the new coach with a decent injury list may just do that but I think it was wrong to use Rocket as a scapegoat

Presumably if we still haven't played finals in 3 years we'll be onto the next coach?
