That might be the best option, rather than the rinse-repeat cycle that we (and teams like Carlton) have been in with new coaches. Half a season, then we ready ourselves for the best coach in the land!
Hopefully AFL will land you Clarko if he coaches in '23. Clarko or Chris Scott would help retain your promising youngsters.

Coch should be seeking soft cap exemptions for you to properly fund your academies and also beef up Dew's assistants. Hopefully you don't do any more Atkin's like deals to top up super for aging rejects. They are a real coach killler when a new coach comes in and has a large tail of mediocre players still contracted.

Man we are sick of handouts it’s about time the club got serious and found other ways to create revenue streams instead of continually begging on hands and knees from the afl

Clarko NOT going to anyone else is probably a decent-ish scenario for us. If Carlton and Collingwood both get new coaches now, we'll be the club most under the pump next year – if we suck again we get Clarko, if we don't suck then some might even be happy :p
If we need to replace Dew at the end of next year it means we are so bad that King Lukosius and the others are out the door
So bringing in Clarkson at that point just looks like another 4-5 year rebuild
I can't see him leaving Melbourne so the only possibility there I see end of next year would be Bulldogs, maybe St Kilda , just maybe Richmond

I reckon next year is as good a year as ever to get him out of Melbourne. His youngest son will be finished high school and the AFL will be promising him the world.

Yep, King and Lukosius might go, but they might go anyway if you replace Dew now. The only payoff for another bad year — a rebuild under the master coach.

Then again, if it doesn't play out like that, it's possible Dew has lifted us up the ladder a bit.

Clarko knocking back Carlton or Collingwood then brings St Kilda into play next year. 55 years without a flag could tempt him.
One thing is for sure Evans would know whether Clarko is a chance next year now.
Otherwise i think Chris Scott isn’t out of the running.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast is hunting for a replacement for Josh Francou as midfield coach.

The club has commenced its interview process and is also on the lookout for a new head of development.

Saints are 13 million in debt without this years figures. No way could or should they go for a saviour coach like Clarko as they would have to skimp on other soft cap areas. If we ever recover from Covid then there could be a NT team and they mighy be a prime candidate for re-location. Tassie won't accept a re-located team.

In the AFL's view the investment in Gold Coast has made you too big to fail. If Dew can't cut it then I expect them to try and send in a big gun, either Clarko or Chris Scott if Cats win the premiership. Ambassadorial payments outside your soft cap. Gill's legacy is at stake.

In a lot of areas Gold Coast seem to have staff who are not top shelf. IMO whomever recommended and signed off on the Atkins contract shouldn't be employed by GC. Now apparently you are tight on cap space, with big re-signings next year. Hawks only offer 3 years max, and one year only for over 30's. You may offer an extra year but 4 years for a player not best 22 seems crazy.

For some reason GC always drop off at the end of the season. You had a couple very good wins late, but also some shockers. You need some way to avoid the blowouts. Perhaps a better coaching panel. Amazing year by Touk!

I see this as a win-win keeping Dew now for 2022. Either he pulls out a miracle and gets us into our first ever final series, or he’s sacked 2/3 of the way through the season with Clarko ready to come in for 2023.

Clarko that way can have a year off, doesn’t need to stab Dew in the back, and we starve off a player exodus.

The only issue i see with this is the players that are looking to go will have is set up well before Dew gets booted

If we're we're 3 and 8 midseason Dew out, Voss in as caretaker to show us his chops with Clarkson in the wings
I was thinking the same. That's about as good a 'plan' as we can put together I reckon.

If Dew improves, great, if not we have one last crack at keeping some players with a decent coach switch.
