Which is why its happened now
They couldn't afford to give Dew oxygen with a few late season nothing wins
We saw what happened with Darwin
You sack him now and in 6 weeks time announce that after an exhaustive process Hardwick or whoever is coach
You can't sack Dew on August 28th and announce the new coach the same day
This way the new coach arrives at the Club September 1st, manages exits and list decisions
Doing it any other way would have been the height of insanity
New guy(whoever it is ) has to hit the ground running
Seemless segue into pre-season
We couldn't afford to make finals then for two reasons.
1 - Draft points. We need them to bring in our three academy stars
2 - If we make finals, how can we not go with Steven King?

If it was drafting academy kids v finals, you'd choose finals.
I doubt you were tanking lol

I came here to read your comments and see if I can understand what is going on.

If it had happened in R5, I would have understood it. GC was 1-4 then.

Then, the team went 6-3 before losing to both Top-2 teams in sequence.

The Suns are just 1.5 win behind 8th place. The timing of this is awful.

I’m really sorry for you, mates.

Really hope we don't go down the whole Ken Hinkley road again only for him to leverage it to re-sign with Port.

Hinkley and Port did a mistake then. A mistake we’ve repeated. It would have been better to all the parties, if Hinkley had started anew at GC. His tools are better suited for your situation than ours.

Hope they don't all turn on him when we don't make finals next year 😛
With your talented list, i think Hardwick would turn up the heat, an the sun would be aiming for top 4 come 2025. Top 8 2024!

Trading a couple of extras out for multiple early second round picks / late first round picks would be smart as well.

In my opinion if there was one fault in the list at the suns, all the quality is clustered around the same age bracket.

The only that happened to poor Dew is 6 years of little success. Then Hardwick announced to the world he is looking for a new coaching role.

Who could blame the suns for going hard at the premiership coach.

Call it the Hardwick effect, dam hard one Dew 🤣

I wouldn’t fire Dew. If Hardwick was a done deal, I would sit with him and tell him that he wouldn’t stay for next year.

In Dew’s shoes, I would want to stay. The better the team goes, the more value his name would have on the market.

Seems like plenty of people here have the same intel I’ve heard so rather than repeat thought I’d add the following:

  • A number of senior players pushed for Clarke / Lyon or similar last year in addition to Stewie. This has been brewing for a little bit but ultimately they wanted someone senior that can challenge views and push people out of comfort zones. (I’m not sure why this didn’t eventuate)
  • When TC left it was the beginning of the end for Dew. Evans has protected himself, but the new board and president needed to take their own angle and upon hearing what others have mentioned about favourites, lack of alternate game plans, skill development they thought we don’t have the right coach to take us to the promised land.
  • Senior Players have been somewhat canvassed prior to today: and the outcomes 12 hours after are what was expected
2-3 are outraged and loyal to Dew (yet to be known what happens but we don’t want to lose 1 of them)
80% Want to win and are disappointed in the way it was handled and have spoken this today, but believe it could be for the best. They have been told a pretty clear direction.
2 were legit out the door (1 contracted), but one has been told he will play this weekend and told a few people he will wait and see.

Ultimately the players want to win, the development wasn’t coming in major areas and it’s easier to get a new coach then rebuild again. A new board wants to input a new direction and hopefully things change. Mark Evans has scrambled well and I think stays, but his the one that really has made us look bad, but might not get what he deserves.

Are you saying one of the disgruntled players hasn't been getting a game but will be in this week? Seems strange, think they would be excited.

Without knowing and connecting the dots Hollands seems to be the likely person, will be interesting to see if he gets a run this weekend.
Hopefully his attitude has changed. Maybe that is why he hasnt been in. The kid can play but there are more things to AFL than being a good player.

Now that the dust has settled, I have sour taste in my mouth about the way this has played out. I agree Dew needed to be moved on but the way we have done has been a shambles.
We just always seem to be run ineptly from the top no matter who is running the show.

Influential Gold Coast board member Paul Scurrah has quit the club following Stuart Dew’s shock axing.
The foundation board member and former Virgin Australia CEO and Managing Director has stood down immediately.

Scurrah was due to vacate his role as football subcommittee chairman in September, but brought forward the move following Dew’s departure.

At a board meeting on Monday he was one of a number of members who opposed the idea of sacking Dew immediately and preferred the club wait until the end of the season.

But the board ultimately voted to remove Dew immediately from his role with a year still to run on his contract.

Scurrah had been a board member for 13 years and in 2020 was awarded life membership at the club.

He was highly respected within the AFL and an influential figure at the Suns.
It is understood Scurrah, the Pacific National CEO and Managing Director, had found it difficult to regularly travel from his Sydney home to the Gold Coast and that informed his initial decision to step down.

I advise Listerine
It's never easy
Had to be done
All those oppo supporters pissing and moaning- ask any one of them if they pencil Suns games in as a W or an L
It's AFL Sport not dance classes
Ask 2MP, Will Brodie, Jack Bowes Oleg Markov even Trent McKenzie and all the guys rotting in the 2's while Oea and Rosas get free passes if they feel the pain you and oppo supporters have for poor old Stewy
It's called the karma bus and it's hit him square in his guts
I give you my favourite all time movie Bull Durham
