On a similar subject, can anyone else not understand a bloody word coming out of Jimmy Barnes's mouth recently?:cool:

Everyone says that, but for some reason i understand EVERY word he says.

but yeah luv Chisel and i must admit Khe Sanh has just about been done to death on the radio.

Has anyone got their latest best of album cos i have and its great.....some excellent songs on there... my top 10 songs would be

When The War Is Over
Bow River
Georgia
Flame Trees
Saturday Night
Star Hotel
Four Walls
Best Kept Lies
Never Before
Choir Girl

Cold Chisel are one of the Best Aussie bands of all time. But 'The Last Wave of Summer' is pathetic and Jimmy Barnes soul rubbish is a disgrace. They should have quit while they were ahead, but poor old Jimmy spent all his money

Chisel are ok...they have a few good songs...a few really bad ones...but they get over played something chronic.
Cheap Wine would be my favourite Chisel song.

Cold Chisel is one of my favourite bands. I have currently taken over from Michael Lawrence (author of Showtime: The Cold Chisel story) as the editor/publisher of The Barking Spider, Cold Chisel fanzine. Michael needs a break and has a few other things in his life he needs to do. If anyone is interested in subscribing or keeping up to date with what the band is doing, you can e-mail me at withers@senet.com.au or ICQ 61082499. We are also setting up a website that will assist to promote the mag (we have a page a www.coldchisel.com.au at present) and inform Chisel fans of current news and releases.

Is anyone in this thread a regular on any of the Chisel related message boards around the place? Has anyone been to any of the recent Chisel conventions?

In regards to some of the comments in this thread, whilst Jim and Don do fight, there has never been a punch up between the two. That is not Don’s way. The main reason why they do fight is because Don almost always gets his way.. Without Walkers songwriting, vision and principles guiding the band, they would not have gone anywhere. Have a read of Anthony O’Grady's book “Cold Chisel: The Pure Stuff “ and you will see what I mean. Don and Ian certainly do not clash either physically or verbally. The two of them are very close friends and those two certainly set the standards sound and material for the band right from the early days.

As for Ian’s ability, he is not a hack! One Australian guitar magazine has recently listed him as one of the Top 20 guitarists in the country. I have seen him several times both solo and Chisel and he is an exceptional guitarists and vocalist. The one area that he really needs to work on is songwriting. His inability to consistently produce original material has held up his solo career. Its not because he doesn’t try – just that last 10% required finishing a song frustrates him. This is why there is such a space between his solo releases and why there have been so few of them. He is currently working on a solo album, still working through songs and his band lineup. Phil Small should definitely be in that lineup. His work in Mossy’s band recently has been excellent.

My favourite member is Don Walker. I love his songs and solo works. For whatever reason I cannot get into all of Barnes solo stuff. I have plenty of it his gear…but I don’t love it as much as his Chisel work or Don’s stuff. The quality of the songs on Don’s solo albums is far superior to Jim’s stuff IMO. As for Walker’s solo success, his early Catfish albums, they were not designed for commercial radio. His highpoint after Chisel, was “Sad But True” with Tex Perkins and Charlie Owen. A great album of fantastic songs, which are always well received at Don and Tex’s solo gigs. Don has been touring with Jeff Lang and Angus Diggs and has plenty of great new songs ready for his next album which should be released soon I hope.

As for the Last Wave of Summer being rubbish, the problem was they didn’t pick their best material for the album! Some of the B sides and un-released gear is far superior to what made the final cut.

The band is not dead yet! After releasing Last Wave Of Summer and Chisel, various Chisel DVD’s are in the works and a live album could be out next year. We are all hoping they can get together and produce a new album and tour in 2002. In the meantime, the following DVD’s may interest you:
Steve Prestwich Live At The Basement 0927423442 Due November 19 2001
Legendary drummer, singer songwriter Steve Prestwich is featured here performing over three nights during winter 2001. Steve and his band perform songs from his debut album "Since You've Been Gone". Also performed are six new songs, as well as classics including "Flame Trees" and "When The War Is Over".

0927423462 Jeff Lang, Live At The Basement Due November 19, 2001-11-14
Jeff’s manager informs me that Don Walker and drummer Angus Diggs are members of Jeff’s band on this DVD. I have seen this trio live and they are awesome.

Cheers

The re-released Last Wave Of Summer CD is good.It has the B-sides & un-released stuff, plus its also got a CD with the videos of the released songs from Last Wave.

The re-released CHISEL album also has some other un-released songs.

Hell yeah, Cold Chisel.

Great band. Their live take of 'Bow River' is one of my favorite tunes of all time.

Too bad they didn't take off in America and make a bucket load of yankee dollars. They deserved it. It's my understanding that they were poorly represented by their promoters when they came to tour the States.

BTW, thanks again for the CD, TT. Peace
