I like a lot of 'popular' music (even some U2 songs), but the three or four Coldplay songs i've heard are just drab and soulless. If they were any less vanilla they would be transparent.

I really dislike newer music from the 90s and onwards but Coldplay is one of the bands that I can tolerate and I actually like some songs.

U2 & Oasis syndrome. They make dumbed down, meaningless music for mass consumption and the majority of the general public are dumb.

Coldplay take themselves way too seriously & their ambition far outweighs their talent. They are unimaginative & souless. They are just plain & simply, a bland musical corporation.

Seems to be cool to hate Coldplay, Parachutes and AROBTTH are actually very good albums imo. The new 'Every teardrop" song is abysmal though.

Ugh at the mention of U2. Everybody hails them as some great band but I think their music is ordinary..at best. Bono is the biggest twat I've ever seen. Such arrogance is appaling. He thinks himself as some sort of God or something, and I can't respect that, especially since he's not even that good imo anyway. Chris Martin is very much like that as well which is funny considering he rips melodies off several artists (some with permission and others without). Can't stand the two, to be honest. Still, like I said, there are only some Coldplay songs that I like but that's more because they're catchy than anything else...not that catchiness equals good music but yeah.

Same here, i like alot of popular music as well. I was listening to cyndi lauper the other day, her album with money changes everything and true colours etc, it's actually pretty fun. On top of that i like some beyonce like 'crazy in love'. And a few others...

Coldplay are just dreadful, they're stuck on replicating early radiohead and even dumbed down jeff buckley to a certain extent. They begun by making an inferior copy of an established sound and have never moved on. They are shit.

How have they never moved on? Every album has a different sound.. Some people hate them.. I like them but can understand how they can bore people.

Surely you can't say they're worse than Good Charlotte, Simple Plan or the other top 40 bands

Why when someone expresses a distaste for mainstream music are they automatically declared a musical snob/elitist?

I can't speak for the donk or his/her musical tastes but I personally don't give a **** who likes the music I like and I certainly don't feel the need to defend it to people who don't like it.

Why aren't mainstream FM Radio music lovers the same?

Try to understand that people are free to enjoy the music they like, and even if the music isn't stuff you enjoy, what gives you the right to look down on the people who do enjoy it? You do come across as very snobbish to be honest.

I see your point also but I didn't create this thread someone with similar taste in music to mine did, maybe they don't have the same taste as mine but we both obviously detest Coldplay.

People are most certainly free to enjoy the music they like, I am intrigued as to why they feel a need to defend it?

lol, don't get me wrong, i like radiohead and cannot stand coldplay, i think chris martin tries to copy thom yorke's voice (which annoys me sometimes anyway AND i believe thom york tries to copy damo suzuki - who is incredible)

To be honest, i shouldn't really comment on coldplay because i don't know their discography. I recognise chris martin's shit voice enough to know when one of his shit songs comes on in a bar/pub/shop i'm in - which is all the update i need to know they're still making shit music.

It's an abomination that bands like Coldplay, Oasis, U2 etc have sold 50x more records than bands like The National, The Walkmen, Arcade Fire, Wilco & Fleet Foxes.

If you were to combine all of Colplay's, Oasis's and U2's talent, it still wouldn't add up to the talent, heart and soul a guy like Matt Berninger has in his little finger. It's an abomination.

The ciritcs savage bands like Oasis, U2 and Coldplay for being generic, repetitious, derivative, soulless and money driven, and so they should. They are utterly horrible. Unadulterated filth.

That's just my opinion though. Many people obviously think differently, as the bands I have just slammed have sold in excess of 200 million records combined.
