If the rumours about Watts are true I would be looking at him before Sylvia if he were at the right club he could definitely be alright,he reads and uses the ball well.
I think Malthouse and Lyon will be all over him if not already and the Cats when Podsiadly goes and I think the Pies should as well.
Agree with this I think if we could give him an opportunity he would be a great get, he could be good at either end and especially with some support around him and at a club that doesn't hang him out to dry.

While I think both Cooney and Sylvia would add something to our team, Cooney especially if he can go back to brownlow form. How much will they add for the price, when we have our full team on the park. I would rather us chase players who can fill our gaps, i.e. Small Quick Defender, someon to replace Ben Johnson off half back.

Although it would be good having 2 bigger bodies in the midfield, Cooney could also potentially play off half back as he uses the ball well

I think all this talk is predicated on the basis of Thomas possibly leaving. If we sign Thomas I cannot see us getting anywhere near any of the players discussed in this thread Sylvia, Dal Santo, Cooney. Its the free agent round about. If Daisy leaves it will free up cash and I would think we would chase best available (except Buddy).

I think whatever happens we would still be chasing a small defender and holes in the list, it would be remiss not to, so thats not a factor so much.

I think Cooney or Sylvia would play similar sorts of roles and essentially a similar role Daisy has played in the past when fully fit - midfield roatating forward. I think both these guys (& a fit Daisy) would make Swan a real handful as it releases him into the forward line more often and I think thats where his future lies and makes us a much better side.

Those type of players that can play midfield & forward are going to be gold if they cap the interchange. Swan, Daisy, Cooney & Sylvia are all excellent in that regard.

Adam Cooney anyone? RFA.

I think there is a genuine chance he could leave the Dogs. Their management & assistance with his knee apparently dsigruntled him a little, he will not see finals again at the Dogs, Dogs unlikely to offer him any dollars or contract length. Not sure he fits into a list rebuild at the Dogs.

Cooney is only 27 (was surprised at this). He is a big bodied midfielder can play off half back or forward. His form this year has been overshadowed by the Dogs poor form, but he has been excellent. Excluding his knee problems I would take him over Sylvia & Dal Santo every day of the week. This guy is actually a genuine star who would provide something different to our midfield. He should be in the prime of his career.

However, his dodgy knee would need a good look over from our doctors - preferably not the one that knocked back Stevie J! His knee is the only reason you wouldn't consider him.

He was close to pulling the pin due to his knee and most had given up hope of him playing beyond this year. Apparently off his own bat he went to Germany to get treatment and it has helped a lot - no longer causing him discomfort. I think with our medical department pumping some resources into him & some good managment of his body, he could be worth a punt. I am not imagining he can play much past 30, but could has some very good footy left in between.

His upside is massive....as is his possible downside, but sometimes you have to take a risk - look at Luke Ball who all the Saints fans were busy telling us his best years were over due to OP. And imagine if we had of taken the risk on Stevie J, I am thinking we win the 2011 flag had we done this.
Photo of Cooney in a Pies guernsey please!

I think if Watts was to come to us he would either be playing third tall in the forward line, or a mobile CHF/FF in the Jack Reiwoldt mould. Same height, but Watts is a bit lighter and obviously hasn't been given much run the position he was drafted for.

The only problem I'd have with this is that we have another player who's kicking bags in the 2's named Jackson Paine who would play a similar role, and I can't see Watts and Paine both in our forward line.

I think comparison between Watts and Paine is a bit off despite the amount of negativity Watts cops. Watts has elite disposal and speed and is significantly taller. Paine is undersized for a key forward and I'm unsure if he has the speed to play a Darling type role.

NO, Hes a complete dud, although a big talk from Bucks, And a HUGE pre-season could help but no GO AFTER FARWLEY

I feel for Watts, the expectations of an entire administration and fan base on his shoulders because of he plays in a cod-ordinary team poorly developed and coached. Could be a half decent player in a good side but doubt he'll blossom to be a champion of the comp.

Sylvia is an interesting one, loads of talent, not much between the ears and career discipline issues.Big questions mark as to whether we could reign in his negative side.

Cooney is a champ no doubt but, chronic bone-on-bone knee issue will only continue to deteriorate and mean he will never again be the player he once was.

If the rumuor about Lueneberger is true I'd do it in an instant.

We don't need Watts. Our defence is generally pretty effective when provided with the adequate support of our midfielders.

Cooney would be a good get, and for the record, not as a Daisy replacement, but as an add on.

Absolutely not. Cooney ranks alongside Woewoden as the worst player to ever receive a Brownlow. Cooney is slow, not entirely creative, and past his 'best'. Our midfield is not particularly quick as it is, so why would we waste our time with a player like Cooney who would potentially struggle to get a game with Luke Ball in the side?

Don't know how Farwley is mate.

:D

But really, key backs are the one area of the ground where we're full up.

Reid, Brown, Keeffe and Frost are all AFL-grade, with Hartley and (for unfathomable reasons) Gault as project KPDs.

Cooney is like Swan. Looks slow, but has explosive burst speed which means he's exceptionally quick over short distances.
Not sure how much of that is back since his knee troubles started, though.

Anyway, he's versatile enough to occupy a spot in the forward line, the back line and the midfield. Said this already, but assuming we'd get him, I'd love for him to play a utility needs-based role like Hodge plays at Hawthorn or Bartel at Geelong.

I've never really noticed that Watts is quick. He just seems to coast around in second gear to me. He reminds me of Cameron Wood in a way, in that I think he can play, but he just shows no intensity whatsoever.

Slyvia strikes me as a money player not a premiership player, melbourne will have plenty of cap space to keep their half decent players. No way will we get him
