Here's how our list looks broken down into age groups - I don't think we have an overly old team, would like to have a bit more depth in the 25-28 bracket though.

DOB - Age this yr - Player/s

87 (18) Travis Cloke

86 (19) Ben Davies, Chris Egan, Brent Hall, Adam Iaccobucci, Billy Morrison
Harry O'Brien, Sean Rusling

85 (20) David King, Julian Rowe, Brayden Shaw, Heath Shaw

84 (21) Cameron Cloke, David Fanning, Zane Leonard, Dane Swan, Tristen Walker

83 (22) Richard Cole, Tom Davidson, Alan Didak, Ryan Lonie, Nick Maxwell
Guy Richards

82 (23) Jason Cloke, Josh Fraser, Matthew Lokan

81 (24) Leon Davis, Ben Johnson

80 (25) Brodie Holland, Chris Tarrant

79 (26) Tarkyn Lockyer, Shane O'Bree, Andrew Williams

78 (27) Paul Licuria, Chad Morrison, Simon Prestigiacomo

77 (28) Blake Caracella, Anthony Rocca

76 (29) James Clement, Shane Woewodin

75 (30) -

74 (31) Scott Burns, Shane Wakelin

73 (32) -

72 (33) Nathan Buckley

The fact of the matter is, if you look at that 18-22 bracket, there's a lot of quality in there, with Egan, Morrison, Didak, Lonie, Walker, Maxwell and the two younger Clokes the group that you would consider you'd get the next two or three top-tier players out of.

Sure our young list isn't the best in the league, but either we gather success with it now, or we don't and simply strengthen the youth movement on the list.

Egan's done absolutely nothing yet , same applies for Travis.
Morrison is really scrapping the barrell.
Didak,Lonie,C Cloke,Maxwell,Rowe,Cole,Davidson,Richards and Walker* are players between 18-22 who have IMO who have shown they have something to offer at AFL level longterm.
Swan and King have also had AFL experience and have been able to play a role competently.
Then you have got a batch of untested potentials.

*Save it ******(e smith) , if Jason Cloke's good enough he'll be able to keep his spot in the 22.

unless injuries play a major part, i think he's fit enough to go for another 3-4 seasons. lets hope in that time we can bring him the success he deserves

It's precisely the fact that these guys are untested potentials that makes them a possibility to become top tier players still. We know, from what we've seen of guys like Swan and King that they probably don't have it in them to be stars. But Egan, C3 and Morrison all have the potential to be great, so it's guys like that we can try and look towards to possibly make a star-level impact in the future.

another 3 to 4 seasons !!! talk about wishful thinking his old hammys kept him out for half of 2004 . 2005 will be his swansong , unless of course mick plays him off the bench in 2006 which would severly comprimise his impact on the game . IMO Buckley is too proud to finish his career like that . BTW he has been a champion and he thouroughly deserves his brownlow , it's a pity he has played with a team that hasn't really looked like winning him a premiership medallion .

You think it has something to do with Jason? haha, Walker is ********, he has shown he will be able to offer something to a side which wants to finish last for a few years and get some early draft picks. Shown he wont offer anything to a team that wants to do well and play finals each year

I was actually suprised Presti was so young when I saw his age a couple of years ago, Always thought he was a similar age to Wakes

he had a hamstring injury that he retore throughout the season. That by no means his career or dominance is coming to an end. He is very fit. Provided that injuries dont haunt him again he can easily be back to his best this year.

Its ridiculous how quickly people can forget.... He was a brownlow medalist only 2 yrs ago....

but i guess you just have to troll the magpie boards anyway.... it must hurt to see a team that actually gets something out of their best player :D

When you pick up a bloke top ten, its not unreasonable to expect results pretty quickly.
I would expect him to be a good player if selected at 10(but ofcourse it doesn't always work out this way).
I wouldn't be expecting results pretty quickly from any of our first year draftees , particularly a player like Egan who still has too raw a body and mind at the minute for AFL footy.
As I previously said Egan still has done nothing yet to show he will be something , we've had no practice matches or the like to even put an early judgement on him.

Lockyer 24, thanks, this is a very helpful way of setting things out. Makes it graphic why good to add experience of CMorrison and Caracella to young list, and why we still need to blood more youngsters this year.

PS Rhyce Shaw may have slipped off the list somewhere? Born 1981; 39 games.
