I can believe it, because people jump on us everytime we lose so 4 in a row in preseason sparks rumours of wooden spooning. Its a great laugh to hear the people rave about the bombers and write us off, they'll see, they will see! HaHaHaHa MuHaHaHa...

This will be an interesting game, I am looking forward to it.

On paper Richmond is going to be fielding a very strong spine in Ottens, Richardson, Johnson, Gaspar and Kellaway.

I do not think Brown has settled in to the Richmond structure so I do not think he will be at his peak for some time.

Weather may play an important role, if its dry and hard I think Richmond might play very well in patches but I am still waiting on evidence to suggest their team is capable of playing four quarters of football.

It is a very hard game to judge based on pre-season form. Neither team has really tried very hard to win pre-season games.

Richmond have the advantage of a full strength team to choose from but if the midfield goes missing like they did during most of last year at times then Collingwood can quite easily take advantage of those lapses in concentration.

I think the result will be within 12 points either way, not sure who will get over the line as we have no real form to judge on. If it is dry perhaps Richmond, if its wet I think Richmond will lose the advantage of having a full list of talls to choose from.

I think Richmond has the players to be a top 4 side IF they play four quarters of football, the problem is they on average play about 2 real quarters of football a game. If that changes this year then they will be hard to beat, I am not brave enough to predict that they will.

This is from a real footy article

The Tigers would be without Justin Blumfield and Matthew Roger with knee problems and Mark Chaffey through suspension.

Collingwood, on the other hand, has been severely hampered by injuries and suspension. Anthony Rocca will miss the match due to suspension, while Tarkyn Lockyer and James Clement will miss due to serious injuries and Shane Woewodin (hamstring), Alan Didak (knee), Simon Prestigiacomo (groin) and Paul Licuria (calf) have not had desirable pre-season preparations.

Magpie injury update 21/03/04
Alan Didak - knee. Available.
Shane Woewodin - hamstring. Available.
Simon Prestigiacomo - leg soreness. Available.
Zane Leonard - hamstring. 2 weeks
Dean Benson - broken collarbone. 6-8 weeks
Rhyce Shaw - corked thigh. Available
James Clement - eye. Indefinite.
Tarkyn Lockyer - broken foot - 6 weeks

Despite being eligible, Alan Didak, Shane Woewodin and Rhyce Shaw didn't particpate in Saturday's Williamstown practice match at North Ballarat, but all three will be available for round one selection.

The club took a cautious approach this weekend, confident the trio's general fitness is adequate for the first match.

'Shane Woewodin could have played if the game was on Monday' according to Magpie operations manager Mark Kleiman. 'He has had the necessary 25 or 26 days off after suffering his hammie'.

Mark said that Rhyce Shaw's cork injury took longer than expected to recover after the practice match in Alice Springs. He feels the plane trip back from the red centre may have contributed to the longer recuperative period.

Newly promoted rookie Zane Leonard, one of the positive performers of pre-season, will be back training this week and available for selection in two weeks.

Simon Prestigiacomo and Mark McGough played 3 quarters of the Williamstown match and will be in the mix for round one selection.

Tom Davidson has now played three practice matches in succession following his recovery from a major knee injury and could also be a chance to make his debut against the Tigers.

Dane Swan got through the Willi game after suffering appendicitis. His form was the equal of anyone at the club before his minor setback.

Mark says the club is taking a 'suck it and see' approach to the serious injuries of Tarkyn Lockyer and James Clement. He expects Tarkyn to be approaching full fitness in about six weeks.

IMO only one out of each of the following pairs will get a game:

Richards, McKee
- prefer Richards, irrespective of form, because he has to be tested at the hishest level and will need at least 1/2 a season to get into the rythm of AFL footy
Cloke, Davidson - ideally neither of them would get a start in round 1 but with Rocca out I'd go for Cloke, on body mass alone but also to ley Davidson ease himself into theVFL after a knee injury
Kinnear, Walker - with injuries, either or both of these duds is in line for a game. Kinnear should get the nod as he is a more versatile tall (possible backup for Presti or CHF/FF)
Swan/ McGough - Prefer Swan as he has shown a bit of form.
Williams/anybody else: would rather we tried a Shaw but Williams might get a game

Richmond easily by 36 points.Collingwood have no one that can match up on Ottens,Richo and Stafford and if its a dry night the Tiges will win comfortably.Collingwood have also got to many of their better players out or only half fit and havnt got any depth to cover any of their injured players.

Agree in theory. In Theory Fraser can match ottens. Wakelin can match Richo and Stafford has had a shocking pre season and hasnt done anything in the practise game so he wont be a worry. I think McKee will do more work than him that nite if we are going to paly staff off the bench.

When u said that ur better players are out or only half fit i was thinking. Would Malthouse play presti, didak, woewoden, licuira if they were only half matchfit? Or wouldnt he risk it and let sum youngsters play?

This is my tip for Round 1 v Richmond .

B : R.Shaw S.Prestigiacomo B.Johnson

HB : J.Cloke S.Wakelin M.Lokan

C : R.Cole N.Buckley S.Woewodin

HF : A.Didak T.Walker S.O'Bree

F : S.Burns C.Tarrant T.Davidson

R : J.Fraser P.Licuria B.Holland

I : G.Richards L.Davis R.Lonie A.Williams

1st Quarter

Collingwood kick 4 goals to Richmonds 2

2nd Quarter

Collingwood kick 2 but Richmond midway through the second quarter get on a inspired roll and bang through 4 goals in 5 mins to end the quarter with 7 goals

3rd Quarter

both teams will kick 4 goals each, nothing special happens

4th quarter

Tiges kick the first 2 goals and go to a healthly 5 goal lead, but then falter then the magpies kick the next 4 on the trot
with 10 mins to go.

Richmond get one back but the magpies kick the next 2 to take the lead, with only minutes remaining nathan brown kicks his first goal of the match and the tiges win by less than a goal

:D

I really do think that malthouse is bluffing the media. He says that woewoden, Didak, Presti, Clement, Licuria probably wont play than u look at the injury update...

COLLINGWOOD
Alan Didak (knee) available
Shane Woewodin (hamstring) available
Simon Prestigiacomo (leg soreness) available
Rhyce Shaw (corked thigh) available
James Clement (eye) indefinite
Tarkyn Lockyer (broken foot) 6 weeks
Zane Leonard (hamstring) 2 weeks

I thought Terry Wallace had it right today, if Richmond dont beat us now, they never will. It will sure as hell be their only chance this season. The key as always is Richo, if he has a good one, we are in trouble. If he has a good one but kicks poorly we can cover that. If he has a shocker and we get the petulant Richo display...wellll.... pies by 48 points :)

Theres no way known Fraser can match up on Ottens whilst Richo will make Wakelins head spin trying to keep up with him and it really wont matter if Stafford is only 20% fit as he will not have any opponent big enough or strong enough to match it with him.
Should the weather stay fine Richmond swill win easily by 36 points

Fraser can't match up on Ottens? What a load of crap. Fraser will run all over Ottens.

As for Richo, if he manages to get a touch, he will kick it out on the full, and Presti will be all over him for the rest.

Yeah but Richo may end up having one of his better nights where everything "clicks" and end up kicking 8 or more. Presti will be all over him? You have to be kidding mare. Presit hasn't got a clue!!!!

As for ottens and fraser, well this will be an interesting contest but I'm sure with a tag team of stafford, fraser will find the going a little tough.

BWUHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Presti doesn't have a clue? You ave got to be kidding. IF you posted that on the main board, you would be laughed at by all an sundry. Presti is one the best backmen in the league. I think you are stuck in 1996 mate, because Presti has come a lone way since then. Mate, you just demonstrated your complete lack of football knowledge with that statement.

In the backline, Presti will take Richo, Wakelin will take either of Ottens/Stafford and Cloke will take Morrison.

In the past, Wakelin has been excellent on the ruckman/forward types. That is including Stafford.

It will be a damn ugly match.
