Well I think it's obvious to take that approach especially after the flogging that we got from Gold Coast. There just doenst appear to be any pride in the jumper anymore and Swan is obviously just playing for the money. Better to get rid of all of them and replace them with loyal players. We need to take this approach on an ongoing basis, regularly appraising the list for loyalty and getting rid of players who dont measure up. We also need to get rid of most of the oldies too....I would think the same approach can be used with the coaching panel. The coaches also need to be constantly coming up with new ideas and challenging the club. If they dont do that and also stay loyal, then they need to be dumped...

Hmm, recruiting players on the basis of loyalty. Is there a 'loyalty' test, like the beep test, or skin fold test? Most of the old players on our list would be loyal, I guess, if hanging around for a long time is evidence of loyalty. Maybe it's not. Wonder if Hine has a loyalty check box on his list, when appraising youngsters. They could be clever at pretending, though. Tricky.

Thats a good point. I would argue that those that stick around and aren't playing like their lives depend on it, are disloyal. Sometimes you have to leave the club to show how loyal you are...

Look, anyone who really had us as a premiership chance was absolutely delirious. Sure, we've put in some woeful efforts this year that have left us pulling our hair out, but what else did you expect?

We're quick to compliment when we're winning and harp on about how young our list is, and how successful they are, then we use that same fact as an excuse when we lose. I distinctly remember saying at the start of the year, this season will be a roller coaster. We've dropped some very winnable games but look we're 9 and 6. We've beaten 9 out of 15 clubs so far, we still have to play Port, GWS and Brisbane.

We will get better, and it is painful to watch sometimes, but try and stay positive. We will be a serious team in 3 or so years when we get that bulk of guys who have played 50-100 games.

I've noticed that as the evening progresses, I'm less inclined to want all the coaches to be sacked and half the players traded. I think when I wake up tomorrow, I'll just want Lumumba traded and Blair dropped off the list..back to normal..
Agreed, i also think Blair and Lumumba's time is up at the pies, time to start recruiting like the hawks who get players with skill and the ability to hit targets. We need someone up forward like a Gunston who is a reliable kick for goal and a good mark, we also need more pressure! i also think we are to one paced, time for some speed to be injected. thoughts?

I'm not sure. I woke up this morning and changed my mind again. I'll let you know when it settles down. All I know is that we need to do something fast and furious. Something massive at the end of this year...

i definitely think blair needs to contribute more goals though if he stays, but in saying that, the amount of times this year going forward, we seem to kick a high ball to blair and he gets out marked or spoilt every time! the disposal needs to be better and decision making also needs improving i think, i am very disappointed about the weekends result but i still remain positive about the future and where we are headed just got to believe #sidebyside

You make some good points. I think some of the problems might be fixed if Blair had a growth spurt. I'm not sure about the decision-making. I did an assertiveness course once..... keep your chin up... I'm sure someone will be traded or sacked at the end of the season and things will improve..

TD...its my personal opinion that we've recruited quite a few "Hawk like equivalents" in the past couple of years. Elliot for Bruest, Grundy for Hale, Adams and Thomas for Mitchell and Sewell, Freeman for Hill or Smith and Seedsman for Birchall. Our Gunston copy is Karnesis, both are very economical (they score from not many possessions) and they both play third forward in a good team.

Our challenge now is to get games into these guys (injuries aside) because then Bucks can structure a side with teeth. At the moment we're a side with "baby teeth" or god forbid the Collingwood team that's toothless!

TD was referring to the skill level of Hawthorn players. Adams and Thomas do not have the disposal skills of Mitchell and Sewell and Freeman is an unknown quantity and will remain so while he is unable to get on the park. Seedsman and Elliot are your best like for like examples.

That is true if blair was taller he would make a much better option as well as a longer kick, ill maintain the faith! just infuriating at times, but will be there this week when we vs essendon cheering the guys on.

dumb question to start with but what does td mean? you make some good comparisons and i agree that these players could be as good if not better than the players you mention although unproven, its just frustrating how all out top end talent/draft picks we have gotten over the last couple seasons seems to be injured or not getting much game time, when they deserve a spot in the 22 more than some more senior players.

If we draft injury prone players we have a ready made excuse for failing to meet team expectations. Makes sense to me.

Yes that seems to be an alarming trend which i hope doesn't continue and is just bad luck.

You have been reading too many Markfs posts.

Very interesting. It would be interesting to put a number on how many players are getting a game on reputation/ loyalty alone. If there is even 1 then it is to the detriment of the footy club.

Ryan O'Keefe is a Swans midfield gun and winner of the North Smith medal in their classic Premiership in 2012. I would have thought that would have bought him a bit of loyalty with "Horse" Longmire, maybe even a game or two in the seniors. No, he's been running around in the reserves all year.

You are speaking for yourself here, though there are other posters who don't appreciate Markfs' unique humour. Remove him and BringBackBrad and this forum would address the serious issues in an entirely serious way. Obviously that is what you and a few others of your ilk would like to happen. For me, I'd like to be able to find a chuckle or two among all the post game gloom and doom that inevitably accompanies our losses. With Obese Arachnid gone and rufio less active, this forum needs all the humour it can get.
Yes your are right and I already apologized to Makfs.. my post was out of order and made in the red mist that descended on me post the Gold Coast loss. I do like the posters who lighten things up.. a lot actually.. just not Markfs so much... not sure he is really trying to be humorous and it would be nice for him to contribute something in a strait up way now and then as well for a change.

I would have thought they were "swan like equivalents" with Grundy for Mike Pike and Elliot for Ben McGlynn and Freeman for Lewis Jetta and Adams and Thomas for the two Jacks....hang on...on reconsidering we might have recruited "cat like" with Grundy as ...it's pretty obvious of course

but I do... I've suggested quite a lot since the loss. I'm always trying to think of things that will make me appealing to other forum lovers...

Gone for most of the moment while he shifts his priorities and lifestyle around to something more rustic and rural, and more to the point, gets a decent internet connection. He flits in and out with the odd gentle reminder of his silky ways. He is and will be back in ever increasing slabs of post.
