Yes boys i know what you mean.

But hey 2 years ago we got Jolly and Ball and we won the flag.We have a premiership boys let's not forget that.We nearly won a flag last year.

The krak is a loss but the caff hasn't played since 2010.He had a woeful year last year.

Look aready from the likes of the kids,Yagmoor,Elliot.Witts,Paine,Hartley,Ceglar i can see as premanent fixtures in a another year or so.That's not to bad.

Really in say one more year we will lose Jolly,Didak,Johnson but our core group have got at least another 4-5 years together they are all young and i am sure we will get another flag or two within the next 3 years guys.

So don't worry.Plus we have free agency happening next year, there will be heaps of players wanting to play for us.

All clubs have the same problem not only us !

Getting 150 Games out of 3rd Round Picks and Later is a Great Return.

It's Paine not Pain too mate
It's a good return. We need top end talent to keep winning flags though not journeymen and half decent value for mid range picks. We need to recruit to stay premiership contenders. the 150 game grunt players can be found a lot more easily but you will never win a flag with too many of them - we went throught that all last decade.

IMO the next 2 drafts are very important for our list in 4+ years time. With the right approacha dn some luck we could keep a contending side for the next 10 years.

Have just had a glance at the output of Travis in his first year compared to that of Paine.

While I realise that it is unreasonable to expect Paine to become Cloke, I will track his progress in line with Cloke's first year progression over the course of this year.

While Paine is not as tall as Cloke they possess a multitude of similar traits that could hopefully see Paine turn into Cloke-lite (or perhaps Diet Cloke?). Both have a strong contested marking capability, Paine has shown he has a good engine working hard around the ground and both are natural key forwards.

I have high hopes for Jackson as based upon his work ethic, you always know you'll get 100% effort and endeavour out of him... however his career turns out, you know he'll have done everything to get the best out of himself. I love this attitude about him the most.
Don't forget Travis played in defense a bit in his early days, and also the club didn't have the midfield power it does today when Trav was up forward, so it's hard to compare the two. Game plans and opposition obviously change too, as well as how players develop. In saying that Paine is showing great signs at this stage of his career.

I would agree that this list of players have potential and show all the signs you wish to see. If I had a concern, it would be that we have a bit of a hole between our group of 18-19 year olds and our 23+ age group. Those players at 20, 21, 22 (Rounds, Thomas, Sinclair, Young etc) aren't coming on enough, meaning we are putting more pressure on our youngest than what I would like. The other gap in our list that worries me a little is in our key position areas. Keeffe coming on has eased my concerns in the back half, but I'm not at all confident of the back up to our key forwards. Cloke and Dawes are stupidly important, but if one or both go down and the fact that Tarrant looks to be having one of those years - who have we got to depend on?

As you've already highlighted, Keeffe has shown improvement in the first 2 games this year and gives greater optimism. Beyond him we've got Paine, Gault, Ceglar, Witts, and Hartley who all show promise. On top of that you've got a couple of others coming through the draft over the next couple of years in Stewart, Moore, Starsevich. Add to that the fact that Brown, Cloke, Dawes, Reid are all so young and really I don't think KP is an issue.

Now utilities and midfielders, thats definitely more concerning. Hopefully Thomas can get his body right and the likes of Smith, Elliott, Williams, Yagmoor, Cribbin, Mooney come on. And I certainly haven't written off Rounds, Seedsman, Sinclair, Ugle, and Stubbs. We have had some bad luck in this area and Thomas is an obvious one but Hunter having neck issues was unfortunate, Blight not making it was bad luck as he'd certainly showed a bit. Losing Dick and being unable to retain McCarthy may come back to haunt us.

Great post as you have covered our whole list.

If we keep cloke and Reid, which i think we will, our only long term list issues. are inside mid and ruck i.e. replacing ball and jolly.

Imo inside mid will be beams, Blair or j Thomas. Re ruck, I got no idea here but we have to hope one of wood, ceglar or witts. I am not fully confident on any of them but rucks r tough to predict. Most mature very late and this is where free agency will help us if we need rucks.

Otherwise our list is sweet for a while.
