Ok! collingwood bashers you will all get ataste of the pies new midfield this year. All collingwood haters keep thinking we are very slow.Well things will change starting this year.Players like o'bree.licuria, and to some extent Burns will be pushing to get a game when the following rotations start creeping into our midfield line up.....
Rotations of, Leon davis, pendelbury, thomas, holland(when he gets back),Didak, brad ********,heath shaw, dane swan, tyson goldsac, reid, nichols, ben johnson.........once this lot start clicking together we will have the experience and the youth to match it with anyone, and win. This midfield group will peak in 2008-2009 then we will leave the rest for dead. While we at it our future spine of nathan brown, travis cloke, chris dawes, ben reid,rusling....will be a a grade spine in years to come then we will dominant...............................................

Does sound more promising than relying on burns/obree/licca as we currently do unsuccessfully. Only query...Leon Davis is not a midfielder and never will be. HFF/wing at best due to his lack of hard ball gets and no ballsy plays. We need to realise this soon

Didak isn't a midfielder. He's a half-forward flanker - and a very good one - lead in goal assists at the club and he kicked over 40 goals, not bad for someone who carried a sore knee. If he's moved into the midfield we would struggle to fill the void left by Didak in the forward line.

I agree with CT. All this talk over Didak going into the midfield. Dids wants to play there, but he is one of the best small forwards in the league.

Pendles adds to the depth of the midfield. I mean, seriously, Shane O'Bree was pretty good last year, and we write him off. Swan and Johnson can rotate and Shaw will push further up the ground depending on Iles and Harry.

Disagree... Strongly. Some of his best displays before being injured were during the time he played through the midfield.
Collingwood have openly stated they want him part of it, and I can definately see why. He'll always be a burst players through there, but midfielder no doubt

I have my concerns over Pendlebury thus far, he sits back way too much instead of making the ball his. I really hope he changes my mind in '07.

There is no doubt that it is a good midfeild.
I just can't see why other supporters can't see it.
Its probly just because they all hate collingwood for no reason.

I agree. But you cant be overly harsh on him. His not overly big bodied...at all... First year in with absolute monsters, coming from Bball and jnrs, you cant judge him on a year. I also believe he was bottom age wasn't he? Even if his not, gez getting chucked into the midfield in your first year, against some of the giants in the AFL. WOuld make anyone sit back i think.

This will change over time, when he realises he has the skill to slide in, and weave his way out. Atm he probably just doesnt back his ability to get the ball outta that situation.
In time he will be doing Dal Santo pick ups and weaves outta danger no doubt

Reid in the midfield? He's a 197cm string bean.

Nicholls needs to become our future in and under clearance player to replace O'bree.
Pendles to be our Dal Santo, running the ball out of packs, roaming forward and back and good for 1-2 goals a game, it's hard to imagine him becoming a Scotty West or Sam Mitchell racking up clearance after clearance.

Hopefully Clarke can fill the void in a couple of years time. He is playing against the Swans 2M so hopefully we here some decent reviews of his game. (are we to have any video of tomorrow's game on CTV or anywhere else?)

Regarding leaving everyone else's midfield for dead, it is hard to deny that Carlton have the young talent to have the future no 1 midfield by 08/09 with Murphy, Gibbs, stevens, scotland and co.

The fact that we are speculating which of our forward and bank flankers is going to play a permanent midfield roles tells us that we don't have too many out and out midfielders coming through the ranks.

brad ********, goldsack, nicholls, reid...

as mentioned reid ain't a midfielder.

the other 3 neither you or I have any idea if they will make it.

You're saying this midfield will peak in 1-2 years, when ********, goldsack, nicholls, reid, thomas, pendlebury, and probably swan and shaw will take much longer than that to PEAK

leon davis - not a midfielder...he's a forward pocket

scott pendelbury - the kids needs at least a couple more years to learn the game and put on the muscle needed to play in the middle

dale thomas - he's a half forward flanker/wingman, i cant see him being put on the ball, he needs to be around the goals

brodie holland - he's a tagger and a very good one...nothing else

alan didak - only in spurts in the midfield...majority of his time will be played down forward...although he is quite damaging when put onto the ball

brad ******** - hasn't played a game yet...so you dont know what to expect but im guessing he'll also need a couple of years to learn the game..more of a wingman type, looks like a daniel wells from under18 footage

heath shaw - you need him rebounding from your defensive 50...not sure if he has the footy brain to play on the ball

dane swan - this guy really impresses me, i love the way he goes about his footy...he'll make for a very good consistent footballer in the future

tyson goldsack - too much of an outside player....he's the type of player that will do well coming off the wing

ben reid - purely a forward...wont play in the midfield

daniel nicholls - dont no much about him so i wont comment.

ben johnson - very erratic with his kicking, although he is starting to show some improvement which is encouraging...he's a ball magnet and probably one of your better midfielders

I don't know what makes you think Heath doesn't have a good football brain... must be the way he consistently picks good options, kicks long and pinpoints his targets.

... no, wait...

i dont watch him on a weekly basis as you guys do...this is what i gathered watching him a couple of times this year...perhaps i was wrong...i apologise

Also, an interesting comment from Brad Scott after the practice match...

“Leon David (sic) was terrific again, he moved up into the midfield, he’ll play that role at times, he had the most kicks for the game, but most pleasingly, from my point of view, he had the most tackles as well.”
