Watching today, I was unusually passive. I normally hate TV games when we play bad,let alone that bad. Mostly, it seems even more frustrating on TV than at the game live for some reason. Here we are getting treated like a blowup doll from the XXX shop and hardly blinked an eye. Here we are getting an absolutely bare backed slave whipping from the Master and I hardly even thought about picking up the remote to throw it. Why? Mmm must be a reason. I mean here we were, having flashbacks to a couple years ago when these guys just treated with the same respect that fresh meat gets in places like Pentridge and my heart hardly raised a beat. I’m watching our side ,the one thats well in the 8 , get thumped by a side, well out of the 8, I should have been livid but I wasn’t, so why?

Was it that we were missing guys, like
Steve Johnson , who is really the only quality goal creator on our list,
Playfair, who has been one our big plus this year ,
Ottens , who has been a player has given us a target this year as well as giving quality ruck relief,
King , who has struggled to play fit ,
Enright who just a couple of weeks ago I thought was playing good enough to be up there in the Brownlow ,
Mackie , a kid who has got the ability to kick goals but might have struggled in today’s climate,
Wojinski , a player who has the ability to create a lose man by breaking the line

What about the guys who are out of form
Harley , has not played enough to get in form without being out again
Bartel , love the Jimmy but hes not as good as the Jimmy can be at the moment
Ablett , is really in a rut , probably his worst form since being in the side
Gardiner , the man is ineffectual, no influence and that should not be the case by now

Maybe it was because watching Johnathon Brown and Jason Akamanis it reminds one what we don’t possess, even when a full list is available. These guys are so important, have a look at Brisbane’s form the first part of this year for JB effect, have a look at JA and know that we lack a guy with that kind of goal sense.

Maybe because for weeks now I feel the team has been winning and losing ugly but there was no real slap in the face, the type that will get a reaction. A bit of pants dacking is sure to get a bit of a response, a wake up call like the Carlton game last year.

I don’t know, maybe a bit of all of them.

Is it time to panic, No. I mean what does panic get you anyway although it might be time for a reality check. Just in case anybody thought different we are still building. Today was a growing pain, the sort that is required to generate the type effort required for us to succeed. Hard choices and hard work are still ahead of us. To state the bleeding obvious we wont win a flag with the 22 that played today, so why expect more than their capable of.Lets face it, whipping the last horse in the Melbourne Cup doesnt get it home quicker, its last because its not good enough. For what ever reason. All things being equal our list is a top 8 list, not a top 4 list. So, please let us be realistic and not go into overdrive about the slagging of at their effort today. Lets just face it , they are really are just not quite up to it when we haven’t got our best playing at close to their best and they probably require the other side to be of slightly less than their best as well.

Yeah I agree with you for most if not all of it,

with our full list I believe we could have bet them, I am usually livid after a loss but it really didnt seem much today, it was just like we were expected to loose.

Bit of a b itch that we got done like that but we all know we can perform better than that so there really isnt much worries

I don't have any misconceptions about the 22 we took to Bne today and where realistically we would end up today - my point is that the guys we really need to at least be 70% of a JA or JB, to show some leadership, do something special, have a real crack, go hard at the ball, read the play just aren't doing that.

Our better players today at best were "workman like". Corey as good as he's been "worked hard", Kelly "worked hard", etc etc. How many periods of play by any Geelong player today could be described as something special? I can't think of any.

Is our eveness biting us on the a$$?

We took a pretty average side to Brisbane and it showed. Not time to panic though, the week off has come at a pretty good time for us i think, it gives the growing number of bruised and battered bodies some much needed rest.

You say you need a player with really good goal sense and a matchwinner. Steve Johnson could become both of those. Just give him time to string a few together. Very bad luck with injuries though. Playfair is your biggest loss but I think Geelong will charge home in the last 6 rounds or so. One other thing. Our next game against you which is at SS :( will IMO shape the top two.

Realistically - You cannot win an AFL game these days when you are missing 7 of your best 22. People will say we played poorly, and that is because we had a poor side. That Cats team wont beat too many in the comp.

When we have our best 22 in we can beat anyone.

I agree totally with you. The players who are missing made a huge hole in our team.

They could atleast try tho, try to be first to the ball. Try harder.

as I said he is the only guy on our list capable of goal creation. To make something out of nothing. We need at least another like this espec. since SJ is has shown a tendancy to break down.An old fashioned HFF goal sneak that doesnt rely on pure delivery.Aka is as good as Ive seen at it. I liked the kid you got in draft last year , Bate. Very handy type.

your only as good as your depth. its proves whilst geelong are a classy team that they still lack depth in their list. they also lack genuine matchwinners.

look at hawthorn, we have a few stars then the list is really terrible. we wont be going anywhere for a while, and geelong just need a couple of stars to get them the premiership. u need ur best fit team in atm and it was impossible in the wet in brisy with ur numbers out, however, saying this geelong did play very poor footy...prob worst game of season.
dont worry you'll slaughter the hawks :p

I agree on some points in there TurboCat.

I have no doubt that our list is good enough to give the club and everyone involved success. We've shown that in various games.

At the moment, we haven't got the full squad available. St Kilda have gone through a bad period of injuries lately, yet people still think they're a legitimate premiership chance.

I'm sure as time goes on, we will click into gear. Periods of lack of form happen to all good sides.

We'll be back.

We wiil be back no doubt cause we are probably playing as bad as we could possibly play at the moment. A comforting fact is on the run home i think our last seven games alternate between skilled and the dome so that helps. A great thing is that the break is here and the guys can chill and regroup and hopefully come back fresh and ready to go and charge to the finals with some confidence. The way we deal with this slump is going tell everyone about how good geelong are.
