The quartet of Kangaroos who embody the hope and future of the club

North Melbourne might be 0-2 to start 2024 but there has been plenty of positivity emanating from the club of late.
After testing GWS for sections of their Round 1 encounter, the Kangaroos found themselves up by more than five goals midway through the second quarter of their Round 2 clash with Fremantle on Saturday.

Alastair Clarkson’s young Roos were then stifled and would eventually succumb to the slightly more seasoned Dockers to lose by 26 points, but there was a lot to like.
While the club has been in the doldrums for the last few years, there is an air of positivity at Arden Street now and a lot of it has to do with their group of emerging youngsters.
Clarkson referenced a shot of Zane Duursma, Colby McKercher, Harry Sheezel and George Wardlaw which really struck him on the weekend.

“We know where we’re at as a club and we’re excited by the things that we see and the growth of our players,” Clarkson said on SEN’s Sportsday.

“There’s a beautiful shot at one stage there when George Wardlaw kicked a goal at the end of the third quarter to just give us some sort of hope after they’d kicked seven in the quarter.

“There’s a beautiful shot of them running back to the centre and the four guys in the shot are Duursma, McKercher, Sheezel and Wardlaw. If ever there was a shot for our supporters about the hope and future of our footy club, it’s centred around those four boys.

“We’ve got plenty of others too, but that just says something about where we’re going as a club.

“If our supporters can just hang in there for the ride because they’ll be there when these guys are starting out in their careers and hopefully they’ll be there when they’re lifting some silverware in the years to come.”

Wardlaw won a Rising Star nomination for his 23-disposal, five-clearance performance against Freo while last year’s Rising Star Sheezel was again dominant with 35 touches.

Duursma, in his second AFL game, had 15 disposals and took 11 marks and McKercher, also playing his second senior match, had the ball 22 times.

Another developing player who could help the Roos turn things around is Tyler Sellers.

The 21-year-old made his way onto the senior list as a SSP addition in February and did his AFL debut chances no harm with a bag of six goals in North’s Round 1 VFL win over the Northern Bullants on the weekend.

“He’s only come onto our list in the last month,” Clarkson said of the forward.

“He’s a kid that had been playing at Old Scotch in the Ammos and came into our VFL team last year and led our goal kicking.

“He’s just a typical lad that at 18 years of age wasn’t ready for AFL footy or to be listed on an AFL list. He’s just been patient, bided his time and he gets his chance now.

“He kicked six in an internal trial last week and another six on the weekend. I’d be really surprised if he doesn’t play some senior footy, if not soon, then certainly this year.”

Clarkson and his youthful Roos will be eager to continue their slow ascent by taking a massive scalp when they meet the undefeated Carlton at Marvel Stadium on Good Friday.
Ah, being talked up as a 'promising' bottom side. Brings me back to the heady days of 2021. It's nice to have finally reached that point once more. Now if they could ******* go on with it, that'd be nice.

P.S. * you David Noble

I noticed that no one answered Gary Lyon's question, "would you rather lose playing like North or win playing like Hawthorn?", but I got the feeling that they would all prefer to play like North, :)
I thought it was stupid question, given Hawthorn didn't win, they got thumped by 10 goals. They lost by more than twice as much as we did.

No, no Duck. Luke, Nick, Harry, George, Zane & Colby are all priority drafts picks. ALL !
Thought you knew that.

You must be Daffy.
You should read some of the brain dead tweets in the replies.

But NoRtH gOt ThReE ToP tWeNtY pIcKs In TwO yEaRs FrOm Da AfLs.

After all Acadamy, NGA, father sons etc they were mid 20’s. barely top 30.

Who legitimately played from our “priorities” last game? Fish and Stephens?

Look out AFL! We are winning silverware with those recruits.

He’s on the radio saying waxing lyrical about how NMFC made mistakes yada, yada, yada, and how poor WCE have not enough top ten picks on the list. Who did that trading for Kelly and not splitting next year.
Oh, and NMFC only got priority picks because they are poor and the AFL wants them to survive, it is not good for football if big clubs struggle…..

How’s this campaigner 😂
When the Kangaroos were running all over Fremantle in the early going at Marvel Stadium on Saturday, a commentator - Jonathan Brown no less - declared that the Roos had the best centre square engine room in the AFL last year.

Not sure how "the best centre square engine room in the AFL last year" managed to put together a 20-game losing streak...

Here is the twitter version...

I honestly thought that the drop-kick had been virtually eliminated from the AFL but I listened to this and I think this drop-kick needs a good punt in the backside.

Is he supposed to be a reporter?

Supposed to be... but in reality he's just another c*cksucker.

Can someone post this story?

This has the potential to be a bigger story than the *'s drug scandal. If this can be proven then.......wow. I think the motive and the real story are in the last few lines:

Dr Arain was sacked by the Demons in October 2020 after eight years as head doctor – just days after raising serious concerns about the club’s culture with chief executive Gary Pert.
Lawyers for Dr Arain hit the club with an unlawful dismissal claim, which led to a significant settlement.

A Melbourne Football Club doctor has sensationally admitted to conducting “off the books” illicit drug tests – allegedly authorised by the AFL – to help players evade detection on match day.
The doctor-turned-whistleblower says players who confessed to having taken drugs in the days before an AFL game were given secret tests to ensure their systems were clear or were advised to “fake an injury” so they would not risk being tested and suspended for breaches of the World Anti-Doping Agency code.
Federal MP Andrew Wilkie told parliament on Tuesday night he had received a signed statement from former Demons head doctor Zeeshan Arain in which he accuses the AFL of facilitating the clandestine drug tests at Dorevitch Pathology in Heidelberg.
Mr Wilkie called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to intervene in the scandal.

In a stunning address in parliament, Mr Wilkie said: “I rise to bring the house’s attention deeply troubling allegations of egregious misconduct within the AFL provided by former Melbourne football club president Glen Bartlett, former Melbourne football club doctor Zeeshan Arain and Shaun Smith, father of Melbourne player and now alleged drug trafficker Joel Smith.
“The allegations include the prevalence of drug abuse and other prohibited behaviour across the AFL, off the books drug-testing of players at Dorevitch Pathology in Heidelberg, facilitated by the former chief medical officer of the AFL Peter Harcourt, the resting of players testing positive in these secret tests, ostensibly on account of injury, wilful inaction by AFL chairman Richard Goyder, and former CEO Gill McLachlan….
“Here is what happened as has been described to me: The AFL wants the player to play at all costs and so the cover up begins.
“If there are no illegal drugs in the player’s system they are free to play and if there are drugs in their system the player is often asked to fake an injury.
“They are advised to lie about a condition, while the results of the off-the-book tests are kept secret and are never shared with Sports Integrity Australia or WADA.
“In other words, hundreds of thousands of Australians will watch the game not knowing that the game has been secretly manipulated by the AFL and thousands of Australians will bet on that game not knowing the game has been secretly manipulated by the AFL.”
The AFL had a longstanding contract with Dorevitch Pathology to conduct testing for its controversial out-of-competition illicit drugs code.

Match day drug tests are conducted by SIA officers under the world anti-doping code.
The stunning claims are likely to draw the interest of WADA chiefs, SIA and the Albanese Government, which has responsibilities under the global anti-doping code.
Mr Wilkie said the allegations were deeply troubling and called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to review the signed statements and “personally intervene in this matter”.
The Independent MP said he had also obtained statements from former Melbourne president Glen Bartlett and the father of accused Demons cocaine trafficker Joel Smith.
Smith failed an anti-doping drugs test last August after traces of cocaine were detected in his system from a urine sample taken by SIA testers on match-day.
He has since been accused by SIA of cocaine trafficking and faces a lifetime ban from sport.
Cocaine is considered to be a performance-enhancing substance if detected on game day.

Lawyers for Dr Arain hit the club with an unlawful dismissal claim, which led to a significant settlement.
Dr Harcourt, an AFL life member who became embroiled in the Essendon drugs scandal, stepped down as the league’s chief medical officer in October 2021.
The AFL and Melbourne are being contacted for comment.
MORE TO COME

Not sure how "the best centre square engine room in the AFL last year" managed to put together a 20-game losing streak...

Yeah. All of Duffields bullshit about how we have the best this and the best that and how we have Sheezel Wardlaw McKercher and Duursma. We didn't have the latter two last year. The year before that we didn't have the former two. Duffield should be honest and admit he hasn't watched us in four years and hasn't seen us playing Daniel Howe at centre bounces, didn't see our 25yo KPD leave for $, didn't see Kayne Turner and Jack Mahony play multiple games in key roles, didn't see us rolling out a crocked Ziebell and having to play post-cancer Cunners, didn't see our "key draftees" like Perez go down with injuries that ended their careers, didn't see Noble ** this club in the ** with no lube for two years and two wins.

That's why the AFL gave us a priority pick. If WCE are as bad and the AFL gives them one too then fair enough. But Duffield can ** my **.

How’s this campaigner 😂

What an absolute piece of RUUUUUBBBBBIIIISSSHHHH…..more of a I’ll pump,up West Coast to get them draft picks.
West toast traded their picks for the Kelly trade….moron….and exactly how many premiership players do they have running around on the felid last year and this year compared to us….???
Hmmmm l wonder…stats don’t lie…

Okay l can play this game….cue the music…..

let’s compare ….how many years has it been since….
West toasts played finals?
Won a premiership .
And most importantly consecutive years they have finished last or bottom 2…?
Compared to us?? . His argument is flawed.

Did some forget to tell this muppet assistance is worked out due to
A) ladder position over period of years
B) win loss ratio over period of years .
c) where you fudging we’ll finish at years end…..muppet …
Where’s he been under a f*&$ rock!!!

Oh F*#&# off…..:
We get more money the west toast….? What kinda of whacky tabbacy stuff is he smoking…

Now for the next bit:
We’re the best centre square team in the comp….wtf. Really…. Oh please….this comment shows how fast your arguments are going down the sh*#&#&# …
Now l know browny has had a few whacks in the head, and he can be a bit ….not all there…. but if he’s referring to this as evidence as to why we shouldn’t have been given assistance then he’s an even bigger muppet than l thought.

Again …stats say we were the 17 th worst side in the comp…( who would’ve thought hey….) ….l would’ve thought teams who finished above us and in top eight had better midfields …( logical…duh. ) So taking his dumb logic this would imply that our mighty midfield should have triumphed over all including the eventual premiers…..what stupid &$@*$$ logic is this…( oi pies, where’s our f*&$ premiership cup)

Meanwhile in lalaland: …..

If he’s so fired up about the huge draft assistance hall we got and he’s concerned about the draft integrity…what’s his friggen thoughts on the the pre selected academy players and draft picks that GOLD Coast had in last years draft….?? Hmmmmmm…..you want to argue we were unfairly looked after…then I’ll throw this at you…because that is what the story really should be about…but your as weak as flimsy mop used to clean out portaloos that have been smashed at the Grand Prix…..to scared to talk about the problem no one wants to see….

Aw booo hooo ….cry me a river …..poor ol Liddel West toast……Who squandered their capital on Kelly …went begging with their bowl Oliver Twist style for draft picks last year coz they had none….and no one wanted to trade with them…booo hooo hooo…….what a fool… if he’s asking on their behalf for more…..then like the soup chef on Seinfeld…No draft picks for you…f&&$ off..

Get your facts and argument correct you stupid little garden gnome before sitting your butt behind a mic accusing my club of being undeserving of assistance / picks that we had rightly earned ….

So called media hacks ….grinds my @&&@& when they pontificate on their soap boxes about our club…bugger off l’ve /we’ve had enough…..no more doormats…..
