some of our best have had pretty chequered off field lives,

Jimi krak and david dench both stints in the big house, Shaggy Grant narrowly avoided time after beating his missus and Carey needs no introduction re off field issues.

Yep sad stuff. Personally I miss the old days when we never new much about what happened off the field. It is just and right that Cable his getting his fair wack for what he did many years ago. But I miss the ignorance and naivety of childhood when they all seemed like giants and heroes and existed only on the field and on Scanlon footy cards.

as long as he can stay away from stephenson and how he goes about being a professional footballer he should be fine. stephenson has the same size & skill as the day he walked into collingwood.
 
Jake Niall wrote about the bigger Marvel tenants wanting to play more games at the G with new deals being negotiated. We now need the media to focus on the Marvel stadium financials for all clubs because the AFL - as owner since 2016 - is so murky and untrustworthy on the matchday financials and its objectives.

It's no secret that non-Marvel clubs have had far better stadium deals than us for years. Other stadiums are generally owned and operated by state government through trusts who provide clubs with great stadium deals. If you're a North supporter in Perth or Adelaide, you effectively subsidise those home clubs by virtue of the incredibly generous stadium deals they receive. That's after the Federal and State Gov subsidies paid to build and upgrade the grounds in the first place. They're publicly owned assets making those football clubs huge matchday revenue with the Government receiving token amounts in return. Politically those governments would be crazy to upset the clubs by charging more.

Same at Geelong - the Kardinia Park Trust (Vic Gov body) has allowed the Geelong FC to make megabucks on its home games for years. It used to make $700,000 on just 18,000 attendance and now is printing money with its government-funded stadium expansion. We the Victorian tax payers receive nothing from the Geelong FC in return despite owning that land and paying for that stadium (via Fed money too). And meanwhile the Geelong City Council is broke.

Meanwhile Marvel, which cost the AFL $200M in 2016, also received $225M in Vic Gov funding for capital upgrades recently. But the match day/stadium deals for tenant clubs are still so poor and will apparently continue to be poor. While state governments would be hammered politically for ripping off tenant clubs, AFL officials don't face any consequences for screwing Marvel tenant clubs. In fact they're incentivised to because their bonuses are linked to AFL earnings, not club earnings.

The Marvel deals are currently being renegotiated and we need media scrutiny/transparency on what the actual Marvel/AFL game day financials (eg signage) are versus other stadiums.

Apparently, the AFL intends to screw the tenants AGAIN in the new negotiations to maximise AFL returns and then compensate the clubs indirectly and retrospectively through the distributions (which are labelled as handouts). But these distributions don't and won't come close to making up for the existing and likely rubbish Marvel deals.

Obviously we'll finish up in Hobart soon. We need the media to shine a light on the likely Marvel deal injustices. The smaller clubs have no power in this. We can't say we'll play at the MCG instead. As Jake Niall pointed out, the AFL has a conflict of interest with its scheduling discretion and Marvel ownership and way too much power over Marvel tenants' stadium deals and where they might play other games.

Did I hear right, that on the footy show some one made a snide remark about north to ben mckay and he shut them down quick and said no, i really enjoyed my time there or something along those lines?

Ben McKay did say that he enjoyed hist time at NM and respected the club. That was him being diplomatic. Lloyd asked McKay if he still talked to players and if they wanted to leave the club. McKay said that he did talk to 3 or 4 players and it was up to them what they wanted to do. Lloydy might have been flying a kite to see if LDU and or Zurhaar might be gettable. Sounded like it to me anyway.

Not sure if Jake Niall goes into this but MCG tenants are not all created equally. Collingwood's deal is far more beneficial than anyone else's.

watching afl 360 atm and the hawthorn racism saga bobbed its ugly head up again. mediation has failed and will now be taking to the federal courts. both parties couldn’t come to an agreement which has led to this. will we be going without clarko has coach this season again? who would replace him now with ratten not at the club now?
 
I can’t read, watch or hear anymore of it.

We are a complete basket case and possibly the worst team of all time.
